      True, for me it’s an annoying setback. Everything was so well set-up. I hope Apple themselves manages to make their Keyboard more practical. There are so many small things that annoy me right now while writing this.

    • @winm382
      @winm382 Год назад +1

      For example, why is on iPad the swype option only available by minimizing the keyboard? Why can’t the German Umlaute like ä or ö be predicted when you write the word without them? Why can’t the best prediction be shown in the middle? Why can the keyboard not delete words as a whole? Why are the predictions so stupid sometimes? God it annoys me, I hope Apple does it as often: They take a concept and make it better. Really hope they do.

    All third party keyboards on apple have very limited integration. Also I have a weird issue where SwiftKey and gboard both lose all permissions to be used as an alternative keyboard at all,and I have to re-enable them. I think it may happen after an ios update possibly. I like the keyboard way better than the stock one, but using it is very restricted.

  • @SalarLumia
    @SalarLumia 2 года назад +7

    I think thats because of the few customization APIs on ios for making a good keyboard that can compete the native ios keyboard. I've rarely seen ios users install 3rd party keyboard apps on their devices.

    I use both an Android phone (currently a Surface Duo 2) and an iPhone (currently an iPhone 13 Pro). For years now, I've run SwiftKey on both platforms because it allows me to sync my autocomplete dictionaries across the devices. Unfortunately, the iOS version stopped being able to sign into my Microsoft Account sometime in the recent past. I opened a support ticket a few weeks ago, and they initially told me that "engineers are working on the problem." They've now updated the support ticket to tell me that SwiftKey is deprecated on iOS.
    I don't know of another keyboard that will allow me to sync the autocomplete dictionary across devices. Gboard used to be able to do it, but they seem to have removed that functionality. It can now only manually import/export the dictionary. I want them to stay in sync automatically.

    I'm one of the majorly bummed out users to day the least. I started pointing out the exact same information with screenshots back in April about the lack of support and updates.
    Some may not know this, but due to the strict limitations on iOS, you don't even get to use the newest emojis via OS updates in your keyboard if it isn't up to date. This was the case with SwiftKey unfortunately for the last year.

    Windows Phone keyboard was the best i don't know if there was any swiftkey technology under the hood... By the way, Microsoft has actually abandoned apps in Android too! Microsoft weather hasn't really been updated for a couple of years and they have replaced it with Bing and Microsoft Start (both are the very same app)

    A statement from ZDNET "Apple's policies around safeguarding its walled garden" simply made SwiftKey impossible to integrate properly with iOS" plus Google's GBoard was more popular on iOS and Android, so it's possible that Microsoft will focus on using SwiftKey with it's own products, such as Surface and Surface DUO. Originally developed by TouchType, SwiftKey for iOS has been behind or late at updates and most recently, over a year since it's last update, probably because Microsoft purchased the product with intentions to use it on future or current developments. iPhone users should not be bummed, there are dozens of alternatives in the App Store.

    this doesn’t matter to me because i generally stick with the stock keyboard on whatever device i use because it has all the features i need already. a stock keyboard just has the best integration on the device it belongs to.
    i suppose gboard is still an option, but since apple added in swipe gestures i no longer use gboard either. i only use it on pixel.
    i think what this means for microsoft is that they can focus more on android like you said. why split your focus into a platform that has relatively low adoption? imo microsoft is picking the battles they want to fight, which is the smart thing to do.
    bummer for swiftkey loyal users on ios, but overall not going to make a big impact to apple’s mobile platform.
