"Ride me sideways is another one!" was an ad lib by Pauline McLynn that Ardal O'Hanlon suggested. You can see Dermot Morgan trying not to corpse when he's got his back to the door.
You summed up Ted perfectly at the end. You have really got this show. He is the "normal" one out of the characters, but he's also not a good person. This is a common difference between British and American sitcoms. In Britain we don't like our main characters to be heroes, we like them to be horrible and/or losers. If this was an American sitcom (not a criticism just noting the difference), Ted would probably be a loveable innocent priest who was accidentally placed on the island with the eccentric characters, due to a mix-up or something, rather than because he's a terrible guy.
"Ah, is he dying? Poor old Jim! He won't like that!" 😆😆😆 I never quite realised how funny that line is until now!! Ardal O'Hanlon once said that in County Monaghan in Ireland, where he comes from, people do have a very low level of emotion when it comes to calamity or bad news. If you tell them they've been robbed, or that somebody they know has died, or that there's an earthquake going on, the chances are they will come back with "Ah right, yeah, that's a pity" or something similar!! 🤣
I know! Old grey whistle theft and the mainland episode . Prob best two episodes of the entire show. Defo a calculated decision to leave them to the end . U will love them.
Your timing is impeccable, I just lay on the sofa to have a chilled Saturday stuff this video appears... Awesome Keep up the great work, the cats send their love
(Fingers crossed, Taffe) How about celebrating the end of lockdown (in the UK at least) by watching 'The Mainland'? Failing that - 'The Old Grey Whistle Thief' is actually MY absolute favourite 'Father Ted' ....except maybe the Christmas Special.
Rock-a-Hula-Ted is a Mrs. Doyle centred episode still to come. An episode featuring a segment that still gets talked about today. The bad words scene is one of my favourites in the whole show, for Pauline McLynn doing everything to make Dermot Morgan laugh. Best is him having to pause and take a breath when she shouts "Ride me sideways". First appearance by Sister Assumpta. Dougal isn't wearing blue, so he won't remember... Funny, I think I've said that before. Speed Mass - love it. Wish it was really that fast. I've been to a Church of Ireland service, much shorter.
It's bad enough to refuse cake or tea with Mrs. Doyle....but as for being another women now that seems to take her to another level....and especially a woman who writes 'filth' not that she would ever read such books nor have any knowledge of 'sins of the flesh' So funny.
I thought you would have enjoyed this episode more then you did. my favorite part was Ms Doyle talking about the womans books and the stuff in them. had me cracking up hard when i first watched it
This is not on the upper half of my list if I rated each episode in the series (which I've watched probably 10 times over the years). Dermot Morgan is still absolutely fantastic in portraying Father Ted being cringe worthily awkward. 😊
Have you reacted to ‘My Hero’ it also starred Ardal O’Hanion and run for 6 series (2000-2006 on BBC1). He plays a dim-witted superhero from the planet Ultron who has problems understanding earthly customs.....basically think of father Dougal with super powers....
Yeah I have mentioned this a couple of times. Such a good show that doesn't seem to get much attention. It did fall off in the end with the change of actor but overall a fun watch none the less.
@@martinputt6421 Yeah I know what you mean but I'm not too opposed to how they handled it. They tried with the new person, it didn't work and they didn't make another season after that one. It's not even that he is a bad actor, just the change overall I feel. Goodnight Sweetheart would be a good one to react too as well I feel.
@@jsteadman9262 Yeah I get what you mean. I thought the actor that replaced Ardal did well in other shows, just wasn't going to be able to replace the original. Goodnight Sweetheart would be good for him to watch I agree there, great series.
For your xmas videos, I'd like to recommend the Goodies festive-themed episode "Earthanasia". It's a radically different take on a xmas special, and I believe it's one of the cast's own favourites.
Hey dude when you finish reacting to all the father ted episodes you should do a reaction to the documentary that was made about father ted it's called small far away the world of father ted the whole documentary is on RUclips I highly recommend it
Always love these videos. Keep it up. I could recommend any. But I would go for Competition Time and Grant Him Unto Eternal Rest just so you've completed the first series.
i would suggest watching certain episodes before certain others, though which episodes you watch in between them is ; inconsequential. In order these are: old grey whistle theft, flight into terror and the mainland.
Ive watched this so many times since i was a kid but im just realizing... I really want that red dress? It's 2020 and im 27, but the dress is actually sick!
Yet another vote for One Foot in the Grave. A more off the wall suggestion though is 'Nighty Night'. You won't get many requests for that as it's a UK sitcom from 2004-2005 that never achieved mainstream recognition, but it would be amazing to see your reaction to it. I remember when I watched the first episode with my housemate, in stunned silence for the first 10 minutes, then my housemate stormed out in disgust. Shortly after, I allowed myself to start laughing . . . reading online reaction to the show, it's clear that it's a programme that provokes very strong reactions - either shock and horror, or, like me, the feeling that it's one of the greatest TV programmes ever made! The BBC barely ever dared to repeat it, hence relatively few people have heard of it.
If your looking for next show to replace Father Ted since you are almost finished by doing double episodes. I suggest either Spaced if you want a short 2 series. Slightly longer 3 series I.T. Crowd. or The Mighty Boosh! (includes Monkey Hell, Mod Wolves, a Crack addicted Fox and Nannageddon) Three series or Red Dwarf though there are 12 series over 25 years.
He is already doing the IT crowd, nearly half way through it and has now done 2 episodes of spaced along with an episode of both the mighty boosh and Red dwarf.
When you do Competition Time, PLEASE do not deny us your reaction to the two blackface scenes! You could maybe edit out the picture, but you must keep the audio and your reaction.
One of the few episodes I don't like, though I'm not sure why. Great series though if this is a lowlight. It's still way better than what's on these days. Rock a hula Ted and Grant unto him eternal rest are the other lesser episodes for me. Some people like them however. You could get them out of they way before Flight into Terror or The Mainland
I'm obsessed with Father Ted at the moment!
"Ride me sideways is another one!" was an ad lib by Pauline McLynn that Ardal O'Hanlon suggested. You can see Dermot Morgan trying not to corpse when he's got his back to the door.
Pauline McLynn improvised the "ride me sideways" line on set.
When she said that I was wondering how Morgan kept a straight face.
If you slow it down you can actually see Dermot laughing and you can hear Pauline laughing too.

“Someone I know is dying”
“Is it serious?”
😄😄😄
He won't like that!
Useless trivia: The guy who got out of the car and punched Ted was Graham Linehan the series creator.
I dont think that was him
Watch "Old Grey Whistle Theft" next it's a brilliant episode. Great channel keep up the good work
Yes! I dont know why this episode isn't mentioned more, it is SO good
We'll get there sooner or later. There are 25 episodes all in all and this is the 16th reaction so we've got 9 episodes left for Taffe to watch. :)
Omg Fr. Damo 🤣🤣🤣🤣

i always crack up laughing at father Jack...Nuns Nuns, reverse reverse!!!!
The nun who spoke the most “sister assumpta” is the same crazy nun from cigarettes, alcohol and rollerblading
Saw the thumbnail and I could immediately picture Ted saying "Good Luck with the book!" Haha
Think that nun that was talking a lot was the same nun that ate all the chocolate and gave Ted and Dougal the 'daily punishments'
Sister Assumpta
I knew she was familiar!
I can hear the thumbnail
"Good luck with the book"
"Poor old Jim he wouldn't like that"
I'm so sad he had a heart attack and died. Bless him for bringing us joy 🇬🇧 🙏
Not sure if people know this about this episode but if you watch at 10:12 they both laugh lol

I thoroughly recommend reading James Joyce's love letters to Nora. A window into the mind of a deviant haha
Good luck with the book
For December you should react to the Christmas animation 'The First Snow of Winter'. Dermot Morgan voices one of the main characters.
I thought you would have enjoyed this episode more then you did. my favorite part was Ms Doyle talking about the womans books and the stuff in them. had me cracking up hard when i first watched it
Last episode of series 1, grant onto him eternal life, has a sort of Christmas theme at the end.
This is not on the upper half of my list if I rated each episode in the series (which I've watched probably 10 times over the years). Dermot Morgan is still absolutely fantastic in portraying Father Ted being cringe worthily awkward. 😊
ps. I'd suggest the Mainland episode, it's one of the better ones imho. Flight into terror is also great (if it's the one I'm thinking of).
Flight into terror, grant unto he eternal rest and finally going to America. Those would be the best way to close out the show.
Flight unto Terror is my pick for the next episode
"like Jet"...
I met her once (the english one), unforgettable :)
