    Can you integrate the uloq with wifi to Ring alarm if it doesn't need the hub?

    I feel like using a real key on that was nice! It saves you time, if it died.

    No USB-C for the backup power? That's gonna be a no for me dawg.

    Not ready for prime time, wait for version 2. There isn't a finger print lock on ring's list so it would be great if there is official full support of such a lock, but I prefer Kwikset as it can be rekeyed to an existing key if you have Kwikset locks on your other doors. Hopfully Kwikset will make a version of their finger print deadbolt that is fully supported by ring with z-wave. It would be nice if that lock had a keypad as well for giving temporary guest access like the other locks have via the app.

    Your safety concern would also be mine, OK let's say by cutting the wires the thief can't get in but are they willing to exchange the lock because the wires were cut because they are exposed?

    Great review… I’m impressed with the lock, and it’s negative issues you pointed out are pretty big issue! I think they rushed on getting the unit out. The exposed wires can be crossed… I haven’t tested it but it sure gives me the willies. At $300 plus I’m going with the Yale you have in the bin.

      With the exposed wires, if they have followed good security practice, then there is nothing that you can do with those wires that will cause the lock to open (ideally those wires will be power and data, and the actual processing is done on the inside of the door)

  • @max-timothy-lev9834

    disabling the wires when the key panel is opened does not disengages the bolt of the lock. You would have to break the entire door in order to penetrate the barrier.

  • @gunsnslings

    The exposed wires wouldn't be a problem if the outside unit is only responsible for taking input, and all the "smarts" of the lock that *interpret* the input are in the inside unit. This appears to be the case with this lock. You could manipulate the wires but you'd still to send the correct code or fingerprint data through the wire; merely "crossing" them would not unlock the deadbolt.

    Any smart lock "integration" with Ring will be a very loose/limited definition of integrate. We have a Yale, as noted in @5:40, which can provide the zwave connectivity and you can get the most basic functionality of lock and unlock with the one nice feature of turning off the alarm with the unlock code, but none of the other advanced functionality that smart locks can provide.

    Thanks for the informative review! One question: Can this lock be used via zwave and also the wifi bridge at the same time? So the zwave integration can provide basic connectivity to my smart home system, but I can also use the full feature set of the app via wifi? Thank you!

    Can you add/remove users using Z-Wave or do you need to use their App? Does it also report which user to Z-Wave controller? I don't really like these devices that rely on a specific App to setup,

    Good review on your part - its just not ready for prime time. I would worry that the exposure of the wires could allow someone to hack into your door lock and gain access without knowing. Not a good thing.

    Do you think this will work on a commercial door?

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  2 года назад +1

      As long as the door is between 1 3/8 - 1 3/4 inches thick, it should work.

  • @Rockaland2
    @Rockaland2 2 года назад +1

    Imagine losing yout phone they can open your house and walk right in... you should do a sledge hammer test and see if you can whack it right off the door and get in...

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  2 года назад

      That is another thing on how... the keyway access door is designed. It flips down making it a good position to be hammered off.

    Thanks for pointing out the visible wires.
    My guess, is that anyone can bypass the keypad to open the lock, by jumping the exposed wires. Seems pretty easy to poke the wires. We wouldn’t even need the Lock Picking Lawyer to pick the key way.

  • @ronbridegroom8428
    @ronbridegroom8428 2 года назад +1

    Why would anyone want a lock to their house that can be hacked? Stop being so lazy and dependent upon technology that puts you at risk and go with a regular lock with a key.

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  2 года назад +2

      If you are concerned about being hacked. Just don't integrate it with a hub or wifi so that it will not be connected to the internet. You will just not get notifications and remote access but you will still be able to use the keypad and fingerprint access.
