It's a huge "what if", but I wonder how things would have been different if Ted Gardestad had won this year instead of 1979. He was healthy and at the top of his professional game here, and such a young talented man could have made a big impression in the 1973 contest. The song could've been translated into English too, as Nova/Malta did.
The thing is that his 1973 song wasn´t convincing enough to be considered as a EGP winner material or even close. In Swedish Melodifestivalen, it didn´t even make it to Top 3. Ted had a few better songs than that one.
I'm not sure if "Ring Ring" was the best song and could be the winner of Melodifestivalen 1973 it's a great song, no doubt, and was a big hit in Scsndinavia but this 'third place' gives ABBA the experience to do It best next year and to 1974 all things change: Agnetha wasn't in high pregnacy They change Your mame They premier other clothes style and the most important "Waterloo" isn't only a great song, it's a Masterpiece! and with the iconic "Waterloo" ABBA not only win Melodifestivalen and Eurovision Song Contest 1974, ABBA change the history of rock & pop music in the 70s (after BEATLES) and becames to a Legend

Ted överlägsen. Visst gillar man ABBA men Ring ring måste ju vara deras sämsta låt.
