    "Standing by for lower"
    Ein Klassiker in Zürich, besonders von Norden kommend. Der geschützte Luftraum C unter FL100 liegt vergleichsweise leider recht nah am Platz, sodass da nur knapp unter 25 Meilen bis Touchdown sind. Mir hat mal ein Eurowings-Pilot gesagt, dass Zürich zwar schön ist, aber man tendenziell immer zu hoch und zu schnell rein kommt.
    Grüße von einem ehemaligen zürcher Approach-Azubi, jetzt Bremen Radar 👋

      Vielen Dank fürs Anschauen und das detaillierte Feedback! Ja, das stimmt! Zürich ist immer schön anzuschauen aber bedingt durch die Luftraumstruktur, Beschränkungen für die Nutzung des deutschen Luftraumes und die Hindernisse, ist man meist höher als man eigentlich sein möchte. Darüber hinaus kommen gerne Rückenwind und / oder Geschwindigkeitsvorgaben von ATC hinzu. Da wir vorher wissen, was auf uns zu kommt, können wir entsprechend reagieren. Speedbrakes, Fahrwerk und Landeklappen helfen dabei ganz gut. Schöne Grüße nach Bremen und bis bald im Funk!

    Very cool video with great views thanks ! I wonder why both PF and PM keep the hand on the stick during the manual flying phase ? It should only be the PF no ?
    Or is there some kind of selection ongoing by the computers and they authorize only 1 stick to actually work... ? Thanks :)

    • @santiagohurtado9569
      @santiagohurtado9569 Год назад +1

      They both have their hands on it, but only PF is making actual inputs, as you can see on the video. It's safe because if something happen you already have your hand on it.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Год назад +2

      Thanks for watching and for your question! The PF has the hand on the stick to make the inputs to fly the plane. The PM has his hand on or near the stick without making an input for 2 reasons: The push to talk button for the radio is located on the stick and he has to be able to take over any time from the PF, especially when he is flying the plane manually. If both pilots would make an input, the airplane makes an auto call "dual input" to warn the pilots. If we would intentionally do that, both inputs would be added. If one pilot makes a full left input and the other pilot at the same time a full right input, the plane would continue straight ahead.

    Nice approach and landing. A bit misty to start with, but very clear as you get closer to the airport. Interesting the way that you had multiple ATC frequency changes on the ground, just to get you across the other runway. Something puzzled me slightly - was I right in hearing the controller give a following plane (Croatia 464) a "clear to land" approval for runway 14, before you had actually touched down?

    • @gr6nd.
      @gr6nd. Год назад

      Yeah, wasnt really according to the books... i was confused too that EWG received two landing clearences no one else seemed to notice yet

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Год назад +1

      Every country or airport has some own regulations. In the US, I usually get the clearance to land as number 2, 3 or so. If I remember right, I also got landing clearances in Paris CDG in France before the preceding airplane even touched the runway. I like this much more as the very late clearances just a moment prior your own touchdown. ATC can always say "go around" if it would not fit anymore.
      The multiple frequency changes on the ground are required due to different controllers and responsibilities. Runway crossing has to be approved by the tower. For taxiing on taxiways, ground or apron is responsible.
      I called during approach for "short final". You are right, we got a second landing clearance which confirmed that we were cleared to land. That is much better than no or a very late landing clearance.

    • @louissikkema5399
      @louissikkema5399 Год назад

      In Zürich, the controllers can give anticipated clearances to the following aircraft as soon as the preceding aircraft is over the threshold of the runway and only if the controller can anticipate that the preceding aircraft will be able to vacate in time

    • @ezb77
      @ezb77 Год назад

      @@louissikkema5399 Does the weather play a role in this procedure? I think it's good practice when the weather is good. What when the following can't see the number 1? Or will ATC clear you regardless of that?

    • @louissikkema5399
      @louissikkema5399 Год назад

      @@ezb77 the controler can only do if he has the visibility, but sometimes in zurich the far end of rwy14 is in the fog but the close end is clear, if that is the case the controler can give the clearance as soon as the first plane breaks out of the fog, and the controler can visually see it while the second plane might still be in the fog, but the controler needs to have visual on the first plane over the threshold

    Thank you for the great video. At which altitude does European ATC change from using "flight level" (e.g. FL90) to the actual figure (e.g. 5000)?

    • @VirtualPilotOfficial
      @VirtualPilotOfficial Год назад +2

      Depends on the Transition ALT meaning that if you are above that you are on a FL below that transition ALT it's like 5000 for example
      But that transition ALT is different to every airport.

    • @marcop9771
      @marcop9771 Год назад +2

      In many European countries the transition level changes with the QNH, while the transition altitude usually is a fixed value in each country.

      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Год назад

      Thanks for watching and your feedback! I would love to show more of the flightdeck instruments ... But the space on the screen is limited. The overhead panel is not that interesting. During the approach, the only switches that are used are the switches for the exterior lights. The rest remains unchanged. During taxi in, the APU is switched on, and the yellow electric hydraulic pump is switched on if we taxi with one engine.

One question, it would at be nice to see the taxi from this FO, but in EUROWINGS is it Captain only taxi? This would cool to see it until the end, the coordination between PM and PF!
