I have the groundsmaster 228 D 4wd 72 inch cut its awesome just about ready to install a winch on the rear

Usually the first two digits of the serial number can tell you the year. 24 would be 2004, 20 -2000, 90’s would be 96, 97,98, etc. same with 80’s. They are great machines. You have to maintain the decks really closely, because the bearings go a lot on the blade shafts. Your deck is way to low. For what your cutting, I would leave just two of the rings on top of the front deck wheels, 3 at the most. Good luck with and enjoy it. Glad you got it. I saw you checking out during a scrapping video and I said he’s got to get it, for that price. I worked for a large school district for 36 years, we had 7 of them Groundsmasters. The 325 Diesel, and the 318’s are gas. We used them for snow removal too. We had a lot of Toro equipment, we were standardized on it. Lasts forever with proper maintaining. We had Toro Groundsmasters that were still going after 30 years, with replacement decks. The main tractor was original. Just keep changing the oil.

I've worked on those groundsmasters before when I was a mechanic for a golf course. Great machines. The deck is supposed to be a recycler deck so where it's open at you should weld a piece of metal to it to close the opening. Then it will mulch the grass and it will mulch leaves if you need it to.
My problem is the grass gets too tall for that stuff and it's still bought it down I'm pretty sure it needs a new deck belt but I also like the discharge because it's like on-site mulch for the blueberries
@@ScrapFarm yea I didn't think about using that opening for mulch for the berries. Definitely would replace the belt and make sure all the deck bearings get greased Everytime you use it. Those machines cane never have too much grease lol.
Bryan do you have any advice or video links on how to replace a starter on a 70 model 325 d groundsmaster?
You got a great deal. It started out at $1600 so you wheeled and dealed. Looks like it's cutting nice as well. Farms looking crisp too. Hope your grandmother is doing well also.

I think its a 1995 ( Model 30788 ) From what I can find online - 25 HP Mitsubishi Diesel - Happy you got it ! Yes I`d say that is a Good Price as well . Great Video Bert !

@johnysky6066 well it has a 72 inch cut plus the shoot if there's one on there I think that's a little wider than 6 ft
We used to run those on the golf course cutting rough in the late 80s. I wouldn't mind having one of them. They are known for doing reverse wheelies just by using the hydro pedal. We had a larger Toro 350D reel mower which had an Isuzu diesel engine in it. That's who I was expecting the manufacturer of your engine to be.

Well I finally got mostly everything cut....once...lol... seems to be good just need to do some maintenance change the oil go through it sounds like it might need a set of glow plugs plus tires. The normal rigmarole

I have one of these with a 72” Guardian recycler deck. It’s been a fabulous mower. The fuel stop solenoid (or switch perhaps) has recently failed and I cannot stop the mower by simply turning off the ignition. I have to push in the fuel stop manually. but hey, it’s been a great mower and I’ve had it about 12 years

Congratulations on the new Bertmobile, give the valves a check sounds like a little tick going on, but a heck of a score, make sure to clean the deck super good everytime, in sure you know they rust pretty easy, I ised to clean mine off and squirt some diesel on it for the next ride, ride on Scrap.!! yeeeeeeww

Congrats on the new mower. Was surprised you didn't buy it last year when you looked at it then. Just bought a 2020 Hustler Raptor 23hp and 52in cut. Only used it twice so far but I like it so far.

we run these at work, at the county parks .I do all the repair work on all the equipment .the grounds masters are a great units, you will love it. they are very reliable .good luck with it .

By the way, that's a 25hp Mitsubishi K3D on your 325 (hence the "25" in "325"). The 328s have a 28hp Kubota. Be sure to keep all the zerks in the PTO assembly well greased. They don't make the main drive parts anymore, and finding them in good condition is a feat.
I got my small rider stuck real bad in mud about 1hr before seeing this clip . need the pick up to get it out .

Buy a cheap HF air grease gun. They love the grease! 15 fitting to grease (I think). Great mowers! I've got 2. I Prefer Diesel but I have a 325D and 327 gas, it sure is quite compared to the diesel!

Diesel is my favorite. I'm pulling with a 7.3 and I'm for fun driving a '84 BJ60 toyota I brought in from Canada- never sold in the US. I put a Garrett turbo on its 6cy diesel and it has a 5 speed manual.

I have three of these. A 4wd 325-D, a 4wd 328-D, and a 2wd 328-D. They make great farm mowers. I have a side discharge deck, rear discharge deck, and the holy grail flail deck. The flail deck can turn a brush pile into a striped and manicured property with just a couple mows.
I have the 328 with a flail. Flail made in Hughson California just near me. they custom built it for just a few units. I took it to them for balancing the head.

if i remember right the model number is under the seat in the foot rest area ; then i went into toros web site and searched for parts and typed in model number and it told me what year it was ;; mine was a 1995 and i think the last year for that style was 2010

It's been great so little hard to get into going it has one bad glow plug that's stuck in the head and I'm scared to try to get it out maybe this summer when I dig it out of storage and get it nice and hot one day I'll try to pop it out of there.other than that' is great
i sure like mine also ;; youll find also that when you are going up a slippery wet grade that if you raise deck slightly off the ground you will get much better traction;;;
its definately a learning curve ;;; i guess its sort of equivalent to driving a fork truck
For sure I definitely do like it it needs a deck belt next season and I ordered some glow plugs for it so it starts easier good thing I don't have any grades around here we're Flatlanders...lol
@@ScrapFarm a great place to get a v-belt is a website called --> www.vbeltguys.com as i know the deck belt can be pretty pricey since it is quite long and wider than normal a 5/8 belt ; but they gave me the best deal ; i have that same mower deck
Toro makes a high quality product. However, the parts for most all repairs are quite expensive. If it has more than 2500 hrs watch for PTO shaft and gearbox wear & tear and possible major wear on the rear wheel turning assemblies. Otherwise an awesome machine. Should be good for upwards of 5,000 - 8,000 hrs. At your purchase price of $1,400 I think you've done well for yourself.
The hour meter says 1800 but I don't believe that it's working LOL....😁

i picked up a groundsmaster 345 4cyl ford engine gas 72 in deck for 850.00 ; cleaned carb and put new alternator and tubes and tires

Looking at buying one of these. Guy has one for sale for 2600, says hydrostatic works fine, 1425 hours, only problem is needs new break pads. Is it worth it?
I mean that's a pretty high price maybe not considering what year it might be if it's a lot newer this one I have I believe it's from the 80s and I don't know what he means by brake pads maybe for the emergency brake unless you're really dealing with any kind of Hills I don't think he needs a break I paid 14 for this one but depends on the year what engines in it how beat up it is 1400 hours is not that much I guess as long as it is the job what you need so usually go for Round 2 Grand Plus
Toro is a great brand, or well it used to be anyways. That does seem like a pretty good deal! Check my community page, I posted some safety equipment you might find invaluable.

I have the 228 d that was built in the 80s it looks like yours is earlier than that i have the kabota engine

Where did you get your leaf blower at?
I have one of the same mowers; it’s a 325D. I’m having recent trouble with it not turning off when I turn the key off. Any suggestions? Also, where can I find the Serial number? My machine has a 72” recycler mulching deck. Overall, it’s in great shape.
Sounds like the shut-off solenoid or ignition switch is going bad.... the diesel versions have a solenoid that pulls on the injection pump to shut it off
Worst case scenario if it doesn't shut off you can just manually pull the shut off
