Hi Paul, good to see you back. If forced to choose between Szoboszlai and Maddison it would be Dominik all day. As for Anthony Gordon he is still young and has plenty of time to develop. Everton play an entirely different game to us. Coming from there to the high pressing game we play, of course he was nowhere near fit enough. Neither were the lads under Bruce but just look at them all now. Add to that most of his playing time here has been on the left side and he looks more comfortable on the right. Give him another twelve months and I think we will see a different player. Over the moon for Joe7 and being picked for Brazil. Richly deserved, especially after the flack he got from us. Hope he gets to start and plays a blinder.
Szoboszlai because of his physical nature and upside. Maddison may be a more proven talent at the moment but Eddie demands amazing fitness from his players and I’m not yet convinced Maddison can hang with our pressing style.
Like you I didn't rate J7 at all when he started for the toon, however I've eaten humble pie too, shows how much I know! Anyway I couldn't be happier for him he deserves the recognition he is now receiving well done to J7
Both would be "nice to have," but if we can only have one it would need to be SZOBOSZLAI for several reasons. He is bigger which would give him the ability to be more physical and he is younger and he looks ridiculously fast.
Gordon not being up to speed when he arrived at Newcastle, is not really a surprise given his last few months with the blue skip rats, this Newcastle team are probably the fittest club in the league, not helped by his injury and all the negative emotion around his departure, the bile and vitriol aimed at by the bin dipping fan base. I expect once he has had a pre season under Eddie we will see a different player, it should not be forgotten he is only 22.
Not as clear cut for me as many on here due to Maddison’s premier league experience which is worth its weight in gold, and his consistent 20 goal contributions per season, however szoboszlai looks like a special player that literally has everything, it’s a very tough choice IMO, if I was pushed I’d take the risk on szoboszlai due to his potentially unlimited ceiling (this kid has all the tools to be one of the very best in the world), in an ideal world couldn’t we just get them both?
The biggest thing I saw in the Chelsea game and we've seen this all season, wing play/ wide crosses are a great source for goals for us. HOWEVER, if you cross from the left, you need a left footer to prevent the ball from going to the keeper and the same from the right. Gordon's goal on Sunday? Cross from the left from Anderson's left foot. All season, only one person can cross with the "correct" foot from the corresponding side. Who? Trippier from the right with his right foot. We desperately need a LB who can cross from the left with their left foot (Targett's form has dropped off a cliff). And we could do with the inverted wingers using their weaker foot a bit more - Almiron literally has no right foot and ASM barely uses his left. Haven't seen enough of Gordon but Murphy does cross with both which I think is one of the reasons he's been a success in spells.
I’m the same as you Paul, slagged him off every time he played but at the same time I was praying that he would score as I felt so bad for him,he is now our best player AND scoring on a regular basis. Well done big Joe Linton getting picked for his national team. 👏👏👏

Can’t see both Szoboszlai and Maddison, their skill profile on sofa score are almost identical. Szoboszlai more expensive but younger and more physical, should be good at pressing from the RB background. Maddison is PL proven. I think if Leicester accept £40m and Maddison wants to come he will be the one. If Leicester play silly buggers and he wants £250k a week we’ll go for Szoboszlai as the financials are more certain.

Eddie knows that finishing 4th this season was an extraordinary event which probably won't be repeated without significant upgrades to the squad. How they do next year will depend on the signings. Bringing in Szobozslai, Kim Min-Jae, Tierney, Broja on loan and maybe De Paul would be an incredible window, even if they don't get Maddison.

Gordon just needs a bit of game time. Isaak wasn't convincingly in his first game even though he scored against Liverpool but see how he got his confidence and it's all about confidence. Miggy scored one and it was back to back goals every game. Gordon has finally scored, he'll keep scoring if given the chance.
