How To Start The Engine And Shift Gears On A Toyota Prius

This Video shows you how to start the engine on a Toyota Prius and how to shift gears on a Toyota Prius. Starting a Prius is very simple. Put your foot on the break, and push the power button. To shift gears on the Prius, you will see that there is a little shift knob with three different options. D means drive, and you use that gear to go forward. Use the lever to shift up into R to go into reverse. What is B gear on a Prius? The third drive mode in the Toyota Prius is engine braking mode, which is the B on the shifter. You can shift into B while the car is moving when you are going down hills to Control the speed of the car by using engine braking rather than using the car’s brakes. I love your Prius V videos. I just bought a used 2014 Prius V and these have been very helpful. Do you know how to turn off the backup beeping in the Gen 3?

That’s the first thing all of us want to change. It’s dangerous and annoying and you can’t focus on what’s behind you because of all the beeping. From what I have learned, you have to take it to the dealer to have them turn off the beep. There isn’t a way to do it yourself.

That shifting is unnecessarily confusing. Reminds me of the Chevy Bolt. Be sure to take steps to Have your plate number engraved on your catalytic converter. Prius are prime targets for that type of theft.

I agree. I had no idea what I was doing when I test drove the car. I’ve never seen a B gear before I got this car. I’ve looked into buying and installing a catalytic converter antitheft plate that you rivet over the converter.

... NO, the Prius will not run the a/c the whole night on battery... But for a good period of time YES.
