The Charlotte Harbor Region is located on the west coast of Florida about a 90 minute drive south of Tampa and 30 minutes north of Fort Myers. In this video we start out with Port Charlotte & Punta Gorda and show how the area has rebuilt since Hurricane Charley in 2004. We also travel through North Port. On the coast we show 4 beaches on Manasota Key, starting with Manasota Key Beach, then Blind Pass Beach, then Chadwick Park at Englewood Beach, and Stumps Pass State Park. We travel through the Lemon Bay area show Don Pedro Island as we head down to Boca Grande and Gasparilla Island. We then make our way back to Port Charlotte, showing, Charlotte Sports Park, Port Charlotte Beach Park, and Bayshore Live Oak Park.

I learned about this area before Charlie, worked with FEMA here during and after Charlie. It wasn't until I met my best friend who moved here after retirement that I really explored the area. I'm here every chance I get! 8 times a year just for the weekend on average. There is simply no place better! Thanks for posting this video. And to those who are thinking about visiting, don't just think...do! I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

I lived there from 1968 to 1983. It was my Home. Charlie blew my Moms House down . It was so sad because she and her husband put some much care and love in to it and all of a sudden it was gone. I now live in Las Vegas and it is no picnic. Not so much humidity, but 120 degrees plus heat sometimes, Monsoon System is the worst. I was a Land Surveyor there, so I know. Trade off that's all. Florida's bugs, snakes, flying cockroaches', no see ems, love bugs and sand spurs , humidity are not missed. Lemon Bay was my favorite.

It's a shame they were ever allowed to purchase that property much less break ground on that travesty of a pipe dream. Anyone with more than two functioning brain cells to rub together knew that abomination would never work as originally planned. It would have to be continually revised and dumbed down until it was no longer economically viable to finish and ultimately abandoned. At this point, I'm just thankful it's not any taller.

Live on the gulf coast, 13 + years. Here's some info the realtors and advertisers never tell you. You need deep, healthy pockets. True, you don't have to be a multi-millionaire, but owning a beach house is a lot like owning a yacht---it's a black hole you keep dumping money into. Everything, even things you never imagined, need constant repair and replacement. Paint, electronics, appliances, wood, automobiles....pretty much anything that corrodes or deteriorates---cut its normal lifespan by 2/3s, and that should give you an idea. Flood & storm insurance increases every single year. Plan on your monthly insurance payments starting at or near to your mortgage payment, and then add10% to it every year. Plan on undergoing a storm evacuation at least once every 5-6 years, and God help you if a hurricane actually strikes within 50 miles of your place. Oh, and you'd better be a people person, because your gorgeous little slice of paradise will be invaded for 4-5 months a year by obnoxious tourists who think all beach property is public property.

@@TampaAerialMedia I've watched far too many of both retirees and younger couples reach for the dream of a beach life and lose their shirts because they weren't prepared for the true costs, and negatives, of living on the coast. It's sad to watch people's dreams die again and again. It's better to know what you're getting into before you take the leap.

That structure you see under construction at the 2:52 and 18:45 is the now stalled Sunseeker Resort. It was being put up by Allegiant Airlines as a condo/resort/entertainment/hotel. It was being constructed using airline profits which are now in the toilet. Charlotte County will now be looking at this unfinished eyesore on the Peace River for the foreseeable future. The County did not require construction/completion insurance or bond.
