    Contrary to many, I am so glad Deaths Design is still in the kit. The way it lets you delay Enshroud letting you put two of them into buffs is really satisfying IMO and makes the burst feel like you ramp up into your burst with the weaker Death Designs at the start and then just rip the enemy apart with the double shroud and Plentiful in there. Plus getting to generate 80 gauge in dungeons off of one Whorl of Death is insanely awesome.

      Tbh my only gripe with it is that it's a GCD. It never feels good to use a GCD to keep this up, but an oGCD would make it feel so much snappier.

      There's elements that I like, but when every other DPS job that has a "you cannot let this fall off ever" has had it seamlessly integrated into their general rotation without needing a completely independent GCD by Lv.80 and the new guy still has to do it that way, it feels wrong. At least to me. Also, the "gain Gauge from kills" feels like a complete afterthought in most current Raid/Trial content, where having more opportunities to build resources would be more welcome.
      I'm hoping there's at least a new trait that lets Gibbet/Gallows/Guillotine extend the timer or refund a bit of red gauge as long as DD's active, especially now that Plentiful Harvest can't make you overcap.

      Yeah I don't mind DD either, though I never minded Heavy Thrust. I feel like a lot of the people who complain about reaper don't main reaper.

      @@XernuhtZwei To your first point, I say we don't need even more homogenization and redundancy of self-buffs, and to your second, by that logic we shouldn't even have AoE attacks because in raid they are pointless. Not everything needs to be designed exclusively around raids.
      I do think giving Death's Design a bit of interactivity with other skills in the kit would be welcome, but it would need to be done very carefully to not disrupt the delicate balance it already has. We see an upgraded Gibbet/Gallows following Gluttony in the trailer so perhaps if Gluttony upgrades them then they could add 7.5 seconds each to the timer, adding up to a total of 30 free seconds of Death's Design over the standard Reaper 2 minute loop. That would also solve the minor issue of being 10 gauge negative every 2 mins, as one Death's Design could then be replaced with a regular GCD to generate the missing gauge.
      I doubt such a change is happening though, but it looks from the trailer that RPR will be just as fun for me as in Endwalker, with some cool upgraded animations and the same flow I enjoy already, so I am perfectly happy with it.

    Wait? People find Reaper boring? I would argue the problem it has is below 80. You get the majority of your fun tools in the 80's, before that it's basically swish swish especially sub 50.

    in the enhanced harpe, the animation has both the WOL and the avatar attacking at once, neat

    The problem with reaper is that its rotation is resource-negative. Even just putting 'get 50 soul when you prep Harvest Moon' would have papered over the cracks. Everything else I could complain about is ultimately smalltime.
    Everyone who says its boring; that's very subjective, I have really enjoyed getting Communios to work and not kill the party during mechanics (specifically SC1 this tier), and messing with my off-minute enshroud to work with AST cards, and even making the job work on high ping (ie only ever enshrouding around the DD timer so I have a 2.5 GCD to weave in a Lemure's Slice). There are interesting and fight-to-fight parts to the rotation that matter.
    Edit: I feel like I'm going insane reading something like "Death's Design is only good for doing a double enshroud". Ikishoten is only good for Ogi Namikiri, by that logic. Like if you want them to put DD into the 123 combo, aren't you just telling on yourself that you're forgetting how to play the class...?

      As somebody who loves the Melee Machinist gameplay loop, the issue with SoD/WoD is that it's two separate GCD buttons that have absolutely nothing else to do with the kit *but* to apply Death's Design. You press them twice and then forget about them until 1 minute later. They don't mesh well with the kit and actively break the pace and flow of "the main show", as it were.
      The issue with Death's Design is that it's... just a damage debuff that you're forced to use two otherwise useless buttons for. That's all it is - there's no other interactivity with the kit. If you gave Reaper a 10% increase to its damage across the board and removed the buttons the main flow of the kit would remain the exact same. If they had made it more involved and made it more impactful to losing the debuff - like, for example, making it so that you only get meter by damaging enemies with DD on them - then it would feel at LEAST meaningful, if still frustrating.
      Death's Design isn't comparable to Ikishoten, because Ikishoten actually *gives* you something when you press it other than Ogi - it gives you 50 meter, as was its original purpose. It's actually more comparable to current Huton - it's a buff/debuff that has no relation to the rest of your kit that you keep up only because it's a damage increase and for no other reason (outside of dungeon packs), and that means it's pretty much vestigial. And with the removal of Huton it remains to be questioned why Death's Design wasn't reworked to be a more integrated part of the kit.

    I dont think reapers communio comes out faster. that is still the same amount of length of a cast time that we have currently on live

    I agree with the person in chat that said that in lower levels reaper has absolutely nothing. I find it kind of boring doing dungeons, like the Praetorium, very boring. Minus skills like Feint, Arm's Length, there is really nothing else that you can do, except for less than ten buttons. Now that's one of my only gripes about reaper. The other is how annoying it is to remember to keep Death's Design bloody up. Hell, dragoon is more fun to do at level 50 than reaper. All of this is coming from someone who mains reaper mainly. Despite all that, I am actually excited to see what new thing and changes to reaper we are going to have once Dawntrail comes to early access/comes out.

      endwalker came out while i was in stormblood patch story....so when i got to shadowbringers i decided to main reaper for the thematic. the most disappointing thing was not being able to enshroud in the fight with ranjit
      almost as big a disspointment as leveling summoner to 70, re-doing all my hotbars when endwalker dropped, and realizing 90% of my spells at this level was "ruin" with different cast times......

    yes reaper is very boring. i’m on the fence if i should main it in dawntrail or just go ninja or black mage.
    i think when i look at samurai, dragoon and monk and see all the combos and actually mechanics in their kit it feels a bit salty. if i could change a few things i’d delete deaths design and give actual skills that did something cool specific to the reaper. i would make the enshroud window more than just 1 2 (3) • 2 (4), i would have made the enshroud phase offer a brand new hotbar. it just doesn’t feel busy at all. it’s a shame because reaper is easily one of the coolest.

    Deaths design still being in the fucking game is annoying. That's the only fucking hope I had for reaper was that DD would be removed and all that damage just put back into it's kit....
