If this is a piano roll, it has pretty sound quality. I was under the impression that Horowitz never released a recording of this etude. It does sound like Horowitz's amazing singing tone quality.
natasjamaria Horowitz has albums of music, and this is just a recording of one of his albums. Use Occam’s Razor mate. What’s more likely? A guy pretend to be Horowitz, learnt the ocean etude and played it amazingly, or a guy has an album of Horowitz playing Chopin etudes and just uploaded Horowitz’s recording of the etude?
I’m not good at words but this really makes my emotions rock like an ocean, Mr. Horowitz does have a brilliant way of conveying emotions using his impeccable technique!
Oh my God. Chills everywhere everytime every note. One of the best performance ever of this stude....wowow shivers up and down my spine. I love Horowitz. Thanks Ucrania.
horowitz is amazing i bet listening to his live preformance could put people in such a trance it will be wery dificult to get out of it he is one of my favorite pianists of all times i wouldve gave the world to go back in time and hear him play live
You are absolutely right; thank you for correcting me. I was relying on my knowledge of Horowitz's sound recordings, forgetting that he had made some piano rolls. The deficiencies of the roll technology, or at least the vagaries of the reproducing mechanisms, no doubt accounts for the uncharacteristic playing in this selection.
piano classico Believe it or not, Horowitz was famous for meticulously selecting the pianos he played on. He liked to play those with a nasally sons apparently. Perhaps you can find out more online
Alejandro Aranda aka scarypoolparty Brought me here he does this piece of Chopin and mixes it with his own talents called BLESSER👍👏🙌✌️🎸🎶🎹 this is beautiful of course too like Alejandro says “it’s all love” .
karlo wolf must be kidding. I just listen to both. VH take of the piano rolls is beyond comparison. Within arpeggios there are hair-raising melodic lines. Not to mention the typical VH steely sound and fearless interpretation. A true artist. And V Lisitsa a very good pianist.
Also I really like this recording because in the beginning I can almost hear a chorus accompanying Horowitz and I've always wanted to hear this piece sung by a chorus with orchestration.
(Contd) The playing in this video is much more heavily pedaled and indistinctly articulated, which is likely due to the fact that it is a recording of a piano roll, and both the recording and reproducing mechanism may not have been up to the task of capturing Horowitz's quicksilver reflexes.
Hermosa, en si realza las olas marinas la desesperación y la tranquilidad de una forma sublime, pero con la interpretación del gran maestro Horowitz se convierte en algo más.
I suggest that you listen to the 1972 Pollini rendition of this extraordinary work. The blend of controlled power, expression, passion, indeed heroism, is jaw-dropping.
how, how, howww, howwwww is this possible to create such sound like this?????? can anyone explain this to me???? no one can do it like Horowitz and i feel like everybody has all kind of different opinions about the technical demanding for this etude... this recording is absolut brilliant.
You know, this piece isn't as hard as you imagine, memorizing it may be tricky, but the rhythm is the same throughout, so it is a matter of memorizing the appropriate notes to play and then picking up speed. Performing it like horowitz will take years, but to perform it shouldn't take too long. Go to IMSLP (google it) and look for Etude Op. 25 No. 12 to find the sheets for this.
@@soba640 Congratulations on mastering it - but I've been practicing it for over 30 years and I am now getting worse (with old age - fingers slowing down, brain slowing down) - it is as hard as I think it is, and it is ridiculous for you to claim you know my imagination better than me!

Lisitsa is totally surpassed by many pianists. She's nothing crazy. Compared to Horowitz, she's still a child and will ever be. The technique of horowitz surpass the technique of lisitsa by far.

@ralphiegixenflargle exactly. Horowitz had known and played these pieces countless times for well over half a century. He's tried more variations of Rach's 3rd more times than Lisitsa has probably played it.
Wow, he´s so good he doesn´t need to move his hands

love how the top of the arpeggios kinda has that "FLING!" accenting.
It's like a chirping sound!
It's meant to be accented
ilubCHRISTsomach It’s sounds like the waves when it hits the rocks and sort if “fling” from the sides.
@@yoshi_drinks_tea Chopin didn't titled his etudes so... we can imagine that is a ocean
Imagine how proud a father would be asking his child what it wants to be when it grows up and hearing in response "I wanna be horowitz"
Countless Soviet children said this (likely about Richter and Gilels, but also Horowitz and Gould), myself included, so what…
everyone wants to be loved
I simply love how he defines the ending notes with such energy.
Only part I liked tbh lol

Bravo! As always Horowitz plays sound and sculpts it beautifully. He's not concerned with the notes.
he plays on the PHOTO, but that's just een photo. It can be everyone playing this etude!

You get mesmerized listening to this. ! The best version of this etude ever.
damn right, looked at 11 performances tonight, this one is it..
Sokolov's performance is really impressive too
That title belongs to Murray Perahia or Sokolov imo
genius
invisible genius

0:34 did he play twice the highest note??? Sound sooo cool
He's so amazing! He can even play it without touching the piano!

Amazing! I can even hear orchestra-like sound from his "Ocean etude". He must've been a magician.
Words are missing to describe this amazing performance!
How did Chopin compose this masterpiece? It must be divine inspiration!

😍Wowsers! How I love the way this man played this etude!!! So expressive, yet technically brilliant!!
It gives me chills. Every time.
The best interpretation I have ever heard !
This is absolutely Horowitz! You can make it out from the nasal sound of the piano, characteristic of every horowitz piano
he meant you could tell by the sound he creates on the piano not the piano itself , if i understand well.
ajayajath I think toggle

Alfred Cortot better here since 1933 .
I get to learn this etude for school! Im so excited!!
how did it go?
Amazing, Horowitz! I could imagine "ocean" clearly!
Yes but remember that the name doesn't come from the composer, it's only someone's vision of what the piece is about.

The reason we cannot see Horowitz actually playing is because it's so far out that it takes the light time to come to our eyes.
