    Perhaps the best GS Mini plus review I have seen (and I’ve watched most of them). The deep dive on Taylor’s layered process verses others is much appreciated. You even noted the tuner upgrade unique to the Koa plus, something most reviewers omit. Great job. If I can offer one change to your review to consider it has to be your lighting. That purple hue really kills the visual beauty of the guitar’s wood and distracts from an otherwise fantastic overview of the Taylor e koa mini plus.

    Hi Robert. Thank you for the review. I've been looking for a review to convince me. Your review was perfect, I loved the song you played and basically you have cost me £950... I'll let you explain to the wife. :-)

    The GS-Mini pretty much depends on the laminate construction to preserve strength and lightness. The bowed back that aids resonance and projection wouldn't really be possible with a solid wood.

    ….and you also have some nicks and dings during this demo from the gear around you, hahaha! Great walk through of this guitar model! Mahalo nui….😊

    Great and informative review. I didn't know about Martin's use of "resin infused sawdust". Seems like that would sap alot of the guitar's acoustical energy. (?)
    I think Bob Taylor did for acoustic players what Paul Reed Smith did for the electric guitar enthusiasts.....brought new and innovative instruments to market and made the "big boys" sit up and take notice. They have my utmost respect.
    I too, like a bit wider neck....guess I could probably adapt to the GS neck width after a couple of weeks. Koa guitars seem to vary widely in their grain patterns and I'm a'gonna find me a purdy one !!

      Good luck in your search, it won't be hard. Taylor makes beautiful instruments. And, yes, the Martin X series uses HPL material, which is resin infused sawdust. It's the same technology used to make some cabinet doors and other furniture items. As for how it sounds, let the buyer be the judge. I like Martin Guitars, though, and am looking at a beautiful DJr 10e Street master. Yes, yes. I do have A Beautiful GS mini Koa Plus, as you saw here, but the Martin is Solid Wood at almost half the cost. I'm into that. Plus I'd like to compare them sometime. Cheers.

    I have short wider fingertips, would that affect playability? Should i go with a 1 3/4 nut?

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  Год назад

      Bigger hands will always appreciate a wider nut. The difference may seem small, but it is noticable. How much of a difference does it make? If your new, a lot of difference. If you're experienced, then not as much.

    Hi, thanks for the review! I want to learn to play the guitar and I’m trying to decide between a Taylor gs mini or a Taylor 214ce/224ce, which of these types of guitar you think would be better to learn to play?

    • @SergioFigaroa
      @SergioFigaroa 8 месяцев назад

      Any of those would be amazing to learn on. The gs mini is nicer for small kids or smaller adults. Otherwise, can’t go wrong.

    Thank you for your review. I bought one in June, and it has been my go to guitar ever since..
    Q. Do you plug it in when you gig? I’d like to hear your take on the electronics.

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  2 года назад +1

      I do plug it in when I gig. I didn't use the electronics in this video because I just wanted to talk about the excellent acoustic sound of the guitar. The ES2 pickup, which has many revisions and is far improved over the original ES2 introduced over a decade ago, is a great sounding Piezoelectric pickup. However, a lot of people don't know how to adjust the pickup properly. Taylor's ES2 is a completely different pickup design when compared to the standard under saddle pickup most people are familiar with. It's too much to talk about in a comment, so I'll make a video about it. Keep an eye on the channel.
      For now, here is a link to a video of me playing the Taylor Gate using the ES3 pickup out to a distortion pedal, then into a set of JBL PRX1 mk2 PS's with EQ, chorus, reverb, and a little delay. It's not a clean sound because of the distortion pedal, but I liked it here. Maybe use some headphones. Just remember that when I got this clip, I wasn't recording for sound quality, only for my personal use.

      Yeah I was hoping that the video would address the pickups as I'm interested in it as a gigging guitar.

      If you want one you can get one for $20. This guitar is so beautiful I wouldn't want to cover up the wood. Plus it's getting a beautiful patina from a little over a year and a half of playing. So I love it. But it is a subjective choice.

    Great review! Very thorough, knowledgeable, and well-put together. I had the GS Mini Mahogany before it went kaput, been considering one of these for a minute… glad to know you have 55% humility! 😂

    Thanks for the review, very nice and informative video man! Just a feedback : the purple lights are quite overpowering that we cannot see the real color and finish of the guitar. To me, the guitar now looks purplish due to the lights. Would be better to have a footage with normal lights so that the finishing and color can be clearly seen as it is.
    More power!
