Everything, its fckd up this year i have my vacation every year arround this time, but because the lockdown here in the Netherlands even that is ruined.. a well lots of alcohol maybe fixes something🤣🤨 whats the brand of the mede your having and where do you get it?
A delicious, fatty portion of Schmalzkuchen (lard cake) with much Puderzucker (powdered sugar). That is really missing this year. 😥 By the way, up to now I never tried Honigmet hot. On Christmas Day we always drink it freezing together with our roasted goose and potato dumplings.
I am from Latvia and I went to Germany with my choir last christmas and it was so fun, especially the christmas market and I really hope to go back there soon!
my son, who is now 38, starting taking German when he was in the 6th grade. he learned all about Nikolaus Day and wanted to do it that year. it has been a family tradition since then. now my grand kids are learning about this. it's just been so much fun for our family throughout the years.
I share your feelings of wanting to party hard. Also: such fun hats!!! I also organized a Christmas market for my family in my backyard. Was great fun. You can still have a nice time at home :)
We actually had a lot of German traditions growing up...I'm from the south...and we had gingerbread advent....GLUHWEIN...brats...... Dinners etc and we had our big get together Christmas Eve...and then a simple dinner the next day.. And we continued to celebrate through epiphany!and of course church! Amazing how many traditions from the old country came over with my ancestors and were passed down through the generations..
I am so with Deana on the snow thing. I grew up in Bavaria and most of my family still lives there, but I've been living in Hannover for the last 7 years now and I totally miss the snow!!!
why do I always start watching your videos when I'm hungry? The big advantage of Christmas market in the own home is, you don't have to move far to get to bed when the Glühwein hits hard
I have two recipes for Lebkucken. One is made primarily of ground nuts, "nach Nürnberger Art" the other is flour based. Both are baked on Oblaten, or undedicated Sacrament Host. They are delightfully fruity and sweet. This year, because no Gäste are coming, I have made none. May our new year be better for all of us.
So my mom was born in Germany, so we celebrated both German and American Christmas. Since I went to Saturday German school and was in public school Orchestra I had double the school events. My dad refused to do the Christmas tree just before Christmas Eve though. We celebrated Advent(candle wreath, calendar, Stolle, Kaffee) and my dad and I put up the Huge 8ft Christmas tree together day before 2nd Advent. It was a whole day project, we only took breaks to eat... It wasn't one of those cheap tinsel trees, you had to assemble the branches they looked real with some pinecones and such. I remember cleaning my shoes the day before Nikolaus and putting out cookies and carrots. We did Heilig Abend, my Nenn-Omi (a Russian Prima Ballerina refugee) my mom was friends with and us had dinner, opened presents (a few were from Christkind) and went to late church service. Next morning we went to my grandparents for traditional American Christmas, with added Sicilian/Turin touches as my great grandma was Italian. My parents had my grandparents and great grandma over for Christmas dinner on the "unofficial" 2nd day. I spent my teens and most of my marriage years in Berlin before we came back to the US so I miss the Weihnachtsmarkt...
On Christmas eve my father put the tree in the livingroom and put the candles on it. My mother and In decorated the tree. Than we had potatosalad and Wienerwürstchen. After that we had to change clothes and than we had the Bescherung. On the next day we drive to my grandmother in a City in the Black Forrest, where we meet the siblings of my father and their families.
Hi, here in Halle/Saale you can buy the official Christmas mug in the city shop. Of course no one is steeling the mugs saying they payed 2 Euro for them 🤣🤣🤣. Many people collect the mugs as they have a different design every year 😁
Great fun 🤩...loved it! We always did the Bockwurst and Kartoffel Salat...und Weihnachtsmann 🎅🏿...ohne Glocke 🔔...meine Familie war Lutheran... Mein Mann dagegen ist katholisch aufgewachsen und da gabs das Glöckchen
We do St. Nicks day in northeast Wisconsin. We put out stockings rather than shoes. Oddly enough...it is traditional to receive an orange as part of the stocking fill.
When I was a child living in Germany it was Christkind that brought the presents and we opened all of our presents on Christmas Eve. When I moved to the US, my first Christmas in the US was when I was 10 and it was a culture shock that everybody waited until Christmas morning and that Santa Claus brought the gifts because to me his day was December 6th. Anyways, my family stayed with the German tradition even when we lived in the US, it was always interesting explain to my friends that I get to open all of my presents on Christmas Eve, they were all jealous.
Ich gucke mir oft euer Weihnachtsmarkt Video von 2019 an. Ich liebe es. Da war alles noch so schön und normal. Aber auch das hier versüßt mir die grauen Tage 💖 danke ihr zwei. Bleibt gesund!!!
The second day of Christmas is also called 'Stephanustag', the 'Feast of Stephen' (like in the English Christmas Carol 'Good King Wenceslas'). He was the first christian martyr. In my area (northwestern Germany) on this day people meet up in the pubs to have a drink and call it 'Stephanus steinigen' (stone Stephen)...
We always had the Weihnachtsmann (so basically santa) come on Christmas eve, and so did everyone else I know. I think the Christkind is more of a thing in states of Germany (or families) that are more under a Christian influence.
In the North, we don't have the Christkind, it's always Santa/Weihnachtsmann, played by neighbours oder friends. With Sack and Rute. As a child I was afraid of him😂. tse2.mm.bing.net/th?id=OGC.bcb943e49457d2d6e1467bcb110c2352&pid=Api&rurl=https%3a%2f%2fmedia.giphy.com%2fmedia%2fQBJD9bSQrYjGU%2fgiphy.gif&ehk=mhWmUUnOO0pKcRxFV8JMfRoSexnRn%2ftVBP%2f4MF5YKPY%3d
Sausages in USA are not that big. We do not have Christmas Markets here. I love the False Forests too!! I love the smell of Wine & Pine! Wine recipe Deana and Phil. Please.
I grew up near Braunschweig in Germany and for us Bescherung was usually the same as at Phil's home, with the exception that at in our area the gift bringer is the Weihnachtsmann which is Santa Claus but he comes on Christmas Eve (sometimes in person played by a relative/neighbour/other person who got paid ) At our house he would usually arrive during Dinner leave the presents and then leave unseen...except for the two times my parents had my uncle dress up. Good times.
So cute! I miss the beautiful Christmas tree ornaments for sale at the German Christmas markets! My entire tree is decorated with German-style ornaments and my favorite is the German pickle!
Yesses! That's what I call Christmas spirit.in the Heart and in the Cup😁!I love Deana's Hat.see the Flammkuchen needs to have a little gluehwein on the side.We had Santa or der Weihnachtsman coming on the Eve of the 24th.My Mom made Goose and Red Cabbage ,potato's and collard greens.Marzipankartoffeln are so yummy .Don't forget to get a Good Luck Marzipan piggy with a Pfennig stuck in for an Lucky next year.🐷🐽🐖yeah Florida don't have a Christmas markets Frohe Weihnachten und schoene Feiertage.🎄🎄🎅🤶☃️❄️
Oh ja, ich vermisse den Weihnachtsmarkt dieses Jahr. Es lässt sich aber leider nicht ändern. Ich wünsche euch Beiden frohe Weihnachten und einen guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr!
I'm moving to Germany in 4 months and your videos make me so excited! Hopefully the lockdown gets lifted and I'm able to visit all the towns in your videos! Koblenz will be the closest, so thats our first stop!
I have to say I love watching your videos!! I am currently learning German and it's so fun watching you guys and learning a bit more about the country!! Thank you for making your videos! Makes my day watching them
How cute!! I bought some of the German cookies and such from Aldi, and perhaps time to make some of the warm drinks since it's chilly here but no snow. The Northeast in US is supposed to get lots of snow. Thanks for great idea.
For boxing day within our family (I'm from England), we go on a big walk, have no technology, give a gift in a box and do some sort of act of service or donate to charity.
I'm from the USA and I don't like poor people so I don't give to human charities. If you give to poor people here, they stick around and bug you forever.
I‘m from Germany and of course Santa came and brought all those christmas presents with him🎅🏼🎁I’ve always been super excited to meet him. But personally, I never saw the Christ child coming to the houses in my neighbourhood.😅🤷🏼♀️
I made gluhwein last night for the first time. It looked so good in your Christmas market video from last year. I put clove, cinnamon, and Clementine wedges in it. I never liked wine, but I can't wait to make it again.
I‘m German but grew up in the US so I had everything: Nikolaustag, Heiligabend and christmas morning on 25th. And my birthday is in December. Presents the whole month around - it was great 👍🏻
My teen is missing the crepes and kinderpunsch. My hubs is missing the half meter wiener. I’m just missing going and looking. We had snow on 1 Dec and nothing since then.
I always thought that Santa Claus is something like a "jazzed up" version of Nikolaus. Like, moving him from side to main character. They even have the same name -> Heiliger Nikolaus -> Santa Claus -> Claus/Klaus is a short version of Nikolaus.
This is so sweet, you make your own Christmas market at home. I live in Goslar and we have one of the most beautiful and popular Christmas markets in whole German. But not this year. I miss it so much. But you inspired me, to make my own at home.
For us (german) it was always santa who brought the presets. We dress up family and friends as santa who play the mystical part. I did it too for my niece and nephews. Its always a big fun to see the kids exciting and scared at the same time. What a shame its different this year. Anyway i wish you both a very lovely christmas. Stay healthy!
Its my first year in Germany and I've been dying to see the Christmas Market (obviously I can't) so this is a great option. Thanks for the great date night idea
Thats a great idea! I will totally do that next weekend …😀 Außerdem ist Flammkuchen voll easy und schnell zu machen (kein Hefeteig = keine Gehzeit). Ich mag am liebsten ordentlich Cème fraîche auf den Teig + Birnenspalten, Lauch und Ziegenkäse!
Over here in Berlin in the mostly non-religious eastern part of Germany it's always been the Weihnachtsmann (Santa Claus) and not the more religious Christkind (Christ Child) bringing the presents. When we were young, we had this Christmas Eve family tradition where my Dad would take us kids on a bus ride across town to supposedly "look for Santa". This was simply to give Mom time to wrap all the presents and set things up for when we'd return from obviously not finding Santa. As we got older we always joked Dad only did it so he could eat a Bratwurst somewhere without Mom noticing. ;)
It's not really a religious vs. non-religious thing. The Christkind was originally a Protestant invention because Nikolaus was considered saint worship. But today it's more of a Catholic thing and thus far more common further south. At the same time the Protestants changed mostly to Santa Claus and equivalents
Well, we're neither Protestant nor Catholic, but non-religious. So even if we put boots out for Nikolaus (St. Nicholas Day) and celebrated Weihnachten (Christmas), we only ever spoke of the Weihnachtsmann (Santa Claus) to bring the presents. One of our grandmas was more or less religious (Protestant) and usually attended church at Christmas (the Catholic sermon because it was more splendid and colorful according to her). And only she ever mentioned the Christkind (Christ Child).
Second day of Christmas, we in Croatia we call St, Steven day. But hear in the AUSTRALIA, thay coll it Boxing day. God Bless you Both. AMEN ALELUJA. 💕🙏✝️💕❤
I miss going to the christmas markets with my friends and family. We would meet there, eat and drink a lot (mostly Reibekuchen und Glühwein mit Amaretto :D) and just enjoy the atmosphere. Hopefully we will be able to do that next year :(
The are TWO specialities with meat at the christmas market: At first bratwurst!! The best one is the little Nürnberg sausage with a lenth of ca. 8 cm or the big fraconian one with 20 cm length. AND only with original mustard from Bautzen (formerly Eastern Germany) AND THE SECOND ONE IS: Shashlik with a hot and spicy curry chili Ketchup sauce.
#teamketchup We made a little christmasmarket to at home. Was really good because no one has to drive after two Heidelbeerglühwein with a shot (or a little bit more shots) Amaretto. We made the Baguette with ham and cheese baked in the oven. Was reaaaaallly delicous. 🤤🤤🤤Today we make Maronen 😉 i miss the feeling on the Christmasmarket... Everyone is very nice and the christmas music in the backround.. Talk with your friends and have a good time together. ♥️
Hamburger hier, bei uns kam der Weihnachtsmann vorbei und brachte die Geschenke. In Norddeutschland ist es wohl ein wenig anders. Aber spannend wie es sich in Deutschland unterscheidet. Guy from Hamburg here. Santa Clause brought our presents for Christmas. In northern Germany it seems to be a bit different. It's interesting how Germany differs depending on the region.
I like the taste of mustard, but it is too spicy for me :( I hate that pretty much everything is too hot for me. My favorite drink is either Glühwein or Punsch. That snow in the south did last for just 3 days so don't be too jealous :)
I'm german. In my childhood, the Christkindchen came, like you described. But there was no explaination about what the Weihnachtsmann has to do with it. Later, when I became a mother myself, I though I need to find a comprehensible way to explain this to my child. ( we are christians, so there is of course the Jesus Child/ The angels interfering, too ). I made up the following: Because little Christkindchen is not able to carry aaallll the gifts by herself, she needs Assistant Santa to help her. Tadaaa. So they both come together and Santa transports and carrys the gifts with his sleigh and reindeers and hands them over to Christkindchen inside the house to be put under the tree. One has to be creative, right *g* ...! Apart from that, I am sure , in my childhood, one night I heard the sleighbells of Santa...I swear :) happy holidays ya'll.
I love Marzipan potatoes! We couldn't get them in the US as a kid so when my aunt went to Germany she would always bring them home along with other marzipan treats! Also we always make bratwurst but never on a roll for some reason. But the rolls in Germany are awesome! Love the hats your wearing and that you can move the ears so cute☺️ Merry Christmas you two!🎄⛄
In Franken we had St Nicolaus and Knecht Ruprecht. Both came together on Christmas Eve and questioned the children if they had been good or bad. (Scared the hell out of small kids. But since they brought presents, the children endured.)
Great video! And just so you know, no snow in Amberg either! Really not much since 2013. Winter without snow is just cold, right? And we do have cold, again. I think I'll do my own Christmas Market, too. I like the hot chocolate--with Bailey's or Amaretto (spelling mistake?).
AND, why was Phil looking at a gigantic potato on the computer when Deana came running up at the beginning 🤣🤣 had the look of being caught red-handed with the hot potato
Maybe you can go next year to Austria around the 5th / 6th december. We celebrate also St. Nikolaus but we have as well Krampus. Normally he walks along with St. Nikolaus and frightens children who did not behave well during the year. Very scary but in a way also fun and very different.
What do you miss most about the Christmas Markets? 🎄🍷🌭
Everything ngl
Langos 😍
Everything: The ligths, the food, the drinks, the sweets, the tiny little things you can buy (but you do not need) and the spirit
Everything, its fckd up this year i have my vacation every year arround this time, but because the lockdown here in the Netherlands even that is ruined.. a well lots of alcohol maybe fixes something🤣🤨 whats the brand of the mede your having and where do you get it?

Yay!! Here's a virtual bratwurst! 🌭 Not a hot dog....
"My Bratwurst is longer than yours."
"Rude." xD

My Bratwurst is hotter than yours !!!!
"Let's make the tips kiss." isn't bad either & also kinda sexual lol.
I am from tu US with a strong German background and we always did gifts on Christmas Eve.

This was great, thanks! Brought back a lot of memories for me. Mom was a true born German with lots of traditions. Miss the Weinachtsmarkt!
Keep this tradition alive. It‘s wonderful. Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland & eine besinnliche Weihnachtszeit.
Now I want gluhwein!!! Thanks for doing this - you two are always to fun...
I have some...come to north Carolina!😂
Wait for me......Even the Christkindlmarkt here in Chicago is canceled. Your Christkindlmarkt videos from last year were great!

I was totally distracted by Deana's hat. It's so cute
Love a good German Christmas market. Here is to 2021 Christmas market come back.
why do I always start watching your videos when I'm hungry?
The big advantage of Christmas market in the own home is, you don't have to move far to get to bed when the Glühwein hits hard
😅😅😅
In Romania we have "mulled" white wine which is basically hot sweet white wine with vanilla, it's delicious
Omg I am also from Romania but I never heard about this in my life 😂😂 sounds very yummy. Which region are you from? 🤗
@@flaviaps9 I'm from Timisoara, we've had this kind of wine in our Christmas market for the last few years. I definitely recommend that you try it 🤗
@@madalinafilip2801 aww so nice. I'm from Cluj but currently studying in Germany. Hopefully next year I can try it 🥺🥺❤
Deana's sauced the whole video! Haha!

Thank you for spreading Cheer for all of us! This was a lot of fun!
“Merry Christmas” to you both!
🎄🎄🎄🎄❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂
Second day of Christmas, we in Croatia we call St, Steven day. But hear in the AUSTRALIA, thay coll it Boxing day.
God Bless you Both. AMEN ALELUJA. 💕🙏✝️💕❤
The Gingerbread hearts as far as I remember you can only get them at the fair or Christmas market unless you make them yourself. 😂
Yall always crack me up! Deana, I'm from SC! My boyfriend is German. I'm looking forward to visiting Germany with him next year...hopefully.
I miss the food for sure. And it's just a great atmosphere.
I'm now proud owner of one of these plushie hats, in the pikachu design. They're just awesome
I miss going to the christmas markets with my friends and family. We would meet there, eat and drink a lot (mostly Reibekuchen und Glühwein mit Amaretto :D) and just enjoy the atmosphere. Hopefully we will be able to do that next year :(
Your Christmas video made my day! Thank you and Merry Christmas Deana & Phil.
The are TWO specialities with meat at the christmas market:
At first bratwurst!! The best one is the little Nürnberg sausage with a lenth of ca. 8 cm or the big fraconian one with 20 cm length.
AND only with original mustard from Bautzen (formerly Eastern Germany)
AND THE SECOND ONE IS:
Shashlik with a hot and spicy curry chili Ketchup sauce.

We made a little christmasmarket to at home.
Haha. Yes, cute idea and I need some of those hats!! Happy holidays.
Deana winkt mit ihren Hasenohren so süß.
I like the taste of mustard, but it is too spicy for me :( I hate that pretty much everything is too hot for me.
My favorite drink is either Glühwein or Punsch.
That snow in the south did last for just 3 days so don't be too jealous :)
I was excited for Christmas markets since this is my first year in Germany😕 hopefully next year🤞🏻. 😂😂 Deana I love your hat especially the ears👂🏼
Ohhh not fun! Yeah, hopefully next year there will be markets! 🎄 And thank you!! 🐰
Thank you both for spreading so much fun in this dark times. It helps a lot
I love Marzipan potatoes! We couldn't get them in the US as a kid so when my aunt went to Germany she would always bring them home along with other marzipan treats! Also we always make bratwurst but never on a roll for some reason. But the rolls in Germany are awesome! Love the hats your wearing and that you can move the ears so cute☺️
Merry Christmas you two!🎄⛄
In addition to the cookies and milk we left out a carrot or two for Santa’s reindeer.
In Franken we had St Nicolaus and Knecht Ruprecht. Both came together on Christmas Eve and questioned the children if they had been good or bad. (Scared the hell out of small kids. But since they brought presents, the children endured.)
Baden-Württemberg too. No boots in front of the door.
It was always the bell for us too🥰 sometimes a real „Santa Clause“ came over! For us it was Santa and not the „Christkind“ 😁
Very scary but in a way also fun and very different.
ich wohne in Kanada mit meinem Mann. letztes Jahr hatten wir den Schuh draußen. dieses Jahr machen wir die amerikanische Variante mit den stockings.
I always ate Chocolate fruits 😍😭 miss christmasmarket this year and i am going to miss Silvester 😪🎆
