  • No.24 Double Decker Bus trip from Miramar to Johnsonville. Metlink service operated by Tranzurban Wellington, New Zealand. From Tuesday 1 November, 2022. Captured using a combination of my DJI Pocket 2, and mostly my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra white 512GB smartphone.
I'm a fan of the double decker stuff whether it be buses or Sydney trains! In mid 2018, the New Zealand Government with prime minister Jacinda Ardern, introduced double decker buses to Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. Tranzurban was awarded the first large fleet of double decker buses, including the Gen 1 100% electric double decker buses, which quickly gained popularity from others both young and old. Tranzurban early 2022 rolled out their new Gen 2 100% electric double decker buses, which include air conditioning, and are lighter and have an improved range.
The No.24 route service operates every 30 minutes during weekdays. Tranzurban Wellington operate the more northern to southern suburban bus routes in Wellington, like notably the No.32X and No.1 from Island Bay (where I live which is why I have so many No.1 bus videos on my channel...), along with the No.7, No.29, and others. So its unusual to see a Tranzurban operator for Miramar. Still a good idea to share our double decker buses with the eastern suburbs.
NZBus who tend to operate more the western to eastern suburbs like Karori, Seatoun, Miramar, Mt. Cook, Kelburn and Lyall Bay. Last year (2021), the New Zealand Government provided a large fleet of modern cool single decker buses to NZBus, since NZBus had all the old diesel buses, where as Tranzurban were boasting their newer fleet including the double decker buses. Yes I like NZBus electric single decker buses, as they have good seating, AND A PLAYING LED TV ON BOARD, as well as a cute chime when you press the Stop button. BUT... Tranzurban's comeback was their Gen2 fleet of 100% electric double decker buses, which are hard to miss (they stand out a lot, so tall, and kids get high over them). Both fleets have something to like about them.
Wellington is the first city in the southern hemisphere, to roll out the largest fleet of 100% electric double decker buses. This variant can carry over 80 passengers. The diesel variant can carry over 100-120 passengers. The diesel double decker buses have cool blue LED staircase lighting.
I've been doing double decker bus videos since mid 2018, and its developed into one of my passions, along with creating walk videos, as a New Zealand RUclipsr. I like creating creative videos in an attempt to inspire others to find joy in what we do, during our free time. I treat being a RUclips Content Creator, as a hobby. Not something you have to make money out of, or to be perfect and professional in. RUclips is social media and a hobby in the eyes of many other like-minded RUclipsrs... just be you and find your niche.
Enjoy the video. Stay safe. Be kind.
    Alastair,
Island Bay resident & RUclipsr, from Wellington, the capital and 2nd largest city of New Zealand.
