Why GUIDES are KILLING YOUR MMO GAME!

- Many people believe guides and the meta mentality are destroying MMOs. I don't think that is the case, but I do think they are causing some problems to the extent that modern MMO player might struggle in a game like Ashes that does not allow the players hand to be held as much as it is in WOW or FF14.

I believe the meta on guilds is going to be an alliance of small guilds, not a mega guild. At this point I can't see the merit of wasting guild points on guild-size, beyond the maximum raid-size say, if you get some kind of combat benefit.
I'm sure there will be time to deal with that before you get too far, but I suspect the real challenge is to try and get all your potential guild-alliance to the same node, at the start of the game, and then sorting into smaller guilds tailored for maximum benefit later on. Of course a huge levelling guild to start then breaking off into smaller ones may be the way to go.
I agree with you 100%! I've been saying this forever. I've noticed that the MMO's that I dive into for 500+ hours I have not looked up guides or min-max strategies. Learning the game from experience is the best experience you can have in an MMO.
Actually works great for all games .
Great take on the open API topic, and use of addons etc! 👏
Imagine a game with a bit of randomness or dynamism that partially invalidates some walkthrough guides, like a labyrinth dungeon layout changing a little bit every so often (thus changing greatly over a long enough period of time), or a boss's strategy changing similarly. A guide will then become just guidance, not a cookie-cutter, step-by-step walkthrough.
Solid video my guy!
Great video!
Thanks Bursny!
Agree with your points and early on all games felt more enjoyable because "no one knew" and you just played the game. But it is what it is. Ashes will have guides but hopefully they have their skill tree well set up so that many different builds exist. This has happened in some MMOs with 'deeper' class systems, it is more a recent trend that classes are more simplified and thus easier to test and declare 'this one is best' (whether or not it is).
Get gud! Love it!
Guides and plugins is the reality of automation and modernization reaching into our hobbies. Game developers will realize this and I'm optimistic about the creative and clever solutions some of them will have in the future. I've always leaned towards pvpmmo games like eve online, warhammer: return of reckoning, guildwars 2, albion online as guides only cover the basics and plugins can only help so much. The real way to get proficient is gaining the muscle memory to coordinate ability rotations with dozens and sometimes hundreds of teammates. A bit off topic but I think gear requirements for pvp is understandable but stupid for raids. Who likes to grind gear to grind more gear?
Apparently everyone who plays WoW. That is (grinding for gear) the core mechanic for nearly everything nowadays. I wish someone would invent a game like those in a large number of manwha where you can discover hidden and unique classes or specialized classes that you can just choose right from the beginning like in every game out now.
Unicycles, fuck yeah.
Spoon Feed ME !.!
Guides really do suck, people take them as religious text sometimes and refuse to not follow them which I think sucks the joy out of games. It’s a lot more fun to jump into most things without knowing where everything is and what’s the best!
I'll make a guide about making guides. Also, WoW addons at first were very helpful. Now they are a necessary evil because the fight is made with addons in mind, so without them you dont know what's going on at all. It's extremely annoying...
Agreed
Could you call a strike or a ban as a developer on web pages that create guides?
You can make it harder by not having an API that allows data to be pulled out of the game easily
@@RyveGenesis God, I would love that.
agreed
Watching this my conclusion is wow looks even worse than i thought.
This problem is 100% player made.
It's a mentality thing and have nothing to do with api addon sim or enything else
I will play in a group with people that dont use guides. Or not play
Guilds keep having meta builds required for raiding.
Guide me dad
:)
I like guides. You don't want guides don't look at them. Use self restraint.
True
Eso raids are way harder than wow raids.
I think most MMO'S have some challenging raids, but it's hard to rate them against each other
ashes having rolling and look like a Japanese mmorpg doesnt look appealing
Ok
