Its not just that BDO is pay to win, its the way its set up the guy with tons of disposable income can advance with thousands of dollars. P2w like that puts 99% of players behind the curve. A level playing field is always better. There were players that in the first 6 months or less that spent like 25k to have an edge over other players. Meanwhile the poors are stuck in a damn near endless grind to get there just to be behind the curve again because they basically only ever pve and have very little pvp experience. So if you are a pvp focused player you have to do almost 6 to 12 months of basically solo boring ass mob grinding to have a chance.

BDO had a much smaller scoop at launch and took 5 years to come out, but it's been out for almost 10 so to me that's basically 15 years of development time with millions of testers(players) to get to where they are now.

What keeps me coming back for AoC updates is because they aren't constantly talking about fundraising even in their demonstration videos. The next thing is Even with how tribalistic MMORPG players are, gaming as a whole isn't very tribalistic these days. Most move from one marketed product to the next. If the game is fun they will keep playing it. And the core fans will drop BDO if a new game came out that was more fun.

To be honest, it is like comparing apples to oranges when comparing how long Ashes is taking to complete versus some of the others - Established studio, more devs, easier coding, limited content, covid, etc... Yes, Ashes is taking a while to complete, but it is understandable in my book (new studio, new ip, newer tech, massive content, etc). He is very ignorant to Ashes that is for sure.

Just want to say Ashes is unlikely to be a BDO killer.
I recently gave BDO a try after someone I respected called their combat "the gold standard", plus the novice servers vastly reduced the ridiculous grind previously required to get up to speed. The combat mechanics are indeed pretty cool, but is so strikingly different from Ashes I don't ever see them being in direct competition. Also, in retrospect, I would never call BDO combat the gold standard.
An additional thought as regards "complexity" in Ashes vs BDO. My experience in BDO highlighted its massive fragmentation of systems,. One small example is "breath", which you level up by running your character around on foot. It's not integrated with anything, it's split off - fragmented - for I know not what reason, but in any case tedious, not engaging, immersive or inspiring..
Whereas the complexity in Ashes is specifically aimed at being "fun", ie: inspired, immersive, engaging. So diverse yes, fragmented no. IMAO.
Note: I really enjoyed Blue Squadron videos while playing BDO, but I think he got quite a bit wrong in his analysis of Ashes. Still he need not fear, I think the player bases for both games will remain largely distinct, significantly influenced by the differences in combat.

I purchased a kickstarter pack for Ashes, only the second time I've ever done that. That was after being burned the first time and swearing to never to do it again. Soon after they did the alternate to kickstarter for those in countries who couldn't access kickstarter, and I was okay with that given the reason. Then more and more skins appeared in packs, highly detailed and cool looking weapons, armor and mount skins. The game has sold more things in their store than most other MMOs that have been out for years, the monetization disgusts me completely and I regret my $250 dollar kickstarter.
If the game is ever released there will be people running around looking like 10 year veterans with high end raid gear skin equivalents.
The wait doesn't bother me at all. The monetization reminds me of a greedy mobile game. I will still try it given I've already bought it, but I'll never purchase anything in the store.

BDO combat is LESS scope because they're dealing with solo game play. AoC is supporting a trinity system (and indeed more if you count the support class) which makes it far more complex than you are the DPS and you are the Tank and you are the Healer... cause you are the only one playing, you don't need a group.

Whether you like it or not, all sort of games have pre-sales, packages, editions, whatever. To what all that money goes into, well, in Ashes case it at least seems it's actually going into the studio itself/making the game. This is not pre-existing company or publisher that just wants to bank in money for profit. That's their one thing, one product. Self published, self-funded. So at least that's far better point of having all sort of packages for skins or whatever to offer. Yet they kept advertising constantly to not buy them if you don't want to as it will not affect the ability to finish the game. It started from a kickstarter. Lessons learned. And Covid happened to occur there in between. Things happen, it does not take much of a common sense to consider that a lot of that time has gone to growing workforce and studio, building their own tools and systems and creating the assets and content. It takes what it takes. Don't give them money if you don't want to, until it's out. All the test phases and such also have loads of video and streams to see the progress when they do the alpha tests and beta tests eventually. Not like things are being hidden, there's rather steady pace of updates. We've had things like path of exile, that slowly grew and has grown to it's mature age after many a year since releasing in it's far smaller original scope.

Eve had been around a long time, I have played only 5 years not sure what was going on at launch. But that game is different not sure you can compare stuff to it accurately cause it looks like a rts but players like an RTS with massive RPG system attached to it. Just different.
The only worth BDO had at launch was the Combat, just like now lol But yeah lol BDO is in trouble for sure if its even around by then. All of those KR games are in trouble actually. I cant imagine spending the amount money he has on a game (18K) and then talking ish about a started up.

Now games are announced as soon as the fart comes out of their ass thinking about maybe making the game.

  • @4RV1DDesigns
    @4RV1DDesigns 5 месяцев назад

I think you both have some points in this video but you already said it at the start of the video Ashes is taking to long and you don't deny that, the whole reason blue is arguing for is that Ashes is nowhere near the other MMOs in scope or content at a similar point in the development (5-6years). Also BDO was one of the most complex MMOs when it launched with a lot of systems that wasn't really talked about because the combat was the big highlight. But BDO has always been one of the best MMOs for lifeskills since launch with crafting, gathering, processing, cooking, alchemy ect. Also the sieges and PVP in BDO was some of the most complex and best PVP systems every made in a MMO which was there at launch.
So it's completely fair to shit on Ashes and say that they are taking too long, and I think it's their own fault for introducing to much complexity and systems that they really don't need. Basiclly all Ashes has done in 5 years of development is a city you can build together with other players and a world that is changing around that with a MMO world and some basic combat which they are desperately working on to improve because the feedback when showing alpha combat is obviously very bad.
But I am not as pessimistic about Ashes as Blue and I want them to succeed because their ideas are decent and the game when it's done will probably be really good. (hopefully the game won't be dead at launch because ppl have been following for such a long time that they stop caring. Also the game testers and everyone who will have played the game for years when it comes out they might already be advanced and have a big advantage over the new players, I think it's gonna be hard to advertise and drive Ashes on release but hopefully I'm wrong)

I played BDO from launch for 6+ months at least and it was by far the biggest waste of time and money ive ever experienced in any MMO ive played in the last 25 years.
Atleast half of my game play was me riding from one end of the world to the other chasing bosses while the other half was farming the same mobs on repeat for literally hours a day.
I played the mage class as a main and if you wanted to weave your skills into a combo you were literally stuck in place with zero movement outside of using a teleportation blink. I hated BDO combat even more then New worlds and that says a hell of a lot.
I think i spent like 700 dollars buying shit from the store and selling it in the market place for gold to advance my gear and still didnt get everything maxed out. Yet everyone i played with were completely delusional if you tried to tell them the game was pay to win simply because if you wanted to you could technically spend a year farming mobs to get to the exact same place lol.
The most memorable thing i did the entire time i played was hopping on a raft and going fishing with some friends. Every single other thing i did was grindy as hell and just not fun in the least.

Just an aside, can't really talk about early MMO launches (UO, DAoC, EQ, etc.), it was so new and internet/social is so different, and it was mainly "gamer gamers" playing those, that everyone put up with what were in today's standards really bad launches and poor UIs, and minimal content... haha. But everyone slogged through it for many reasons, such as "ignorance is bliss", har! Expectations changed around the time of the launch of Vanguard: saga of heroes, in fact WoW had a rough launch, but was just at the tail end of gamer's accepting such things (WoW launched at such an ideal time, really amazing how it all worked out to make a MMO that everyone played. Will most likely never happen again). Makes me think, could probably use another "historical MMO timeline" commentary video. Can't recall any recent ones.

If a decent MMO launched right now it would sell millions of copies, just because. Only really bad ones like TL can't do well right now.
