Arguably it was more protective though (for the weapons of the time), imagine an arming gambeson of soft Kevlar and then all the armor plates being hard composite Kevlar plates? If you could figure out the logistics on how to make all that work without overheating, over burdening, and overworking the soldier you'd practically need a direct RPG hit to go down as just an infantryman.
@Average Guns for sure, but I would argue that protection has not really gone down per-say, rather it has changed from clothing articles to cover and concealment. Armor systems now are becoming less protective but more low profile so getting into prone positions or up close to cover is easier. The object has always been not to get hit (even in the ancient times) but the method of not getting hit has merely changed.
@@DystruktoBoi1 only thing is practicality, and weight for individual soldier. I could see assault specialist units using heavy armor, like the russian FSB wear a frag suit, and then level 6 armor over that. And a level 3 + helmet. However in extenddd operatons would be such a bitch
Neat. I have my entire arm harness, and upper body mail, attached to the gambeson via standard arming points. I arm as usual from feet up. Then I just put the top on, almost like a jacket. After than is laced up, I add a mail skit, and cuirass. The only time I need any help is on the cuirass. Now that I see you brigandine set up, I might ditch the cuirass. Lots of ideas.

I would love to see this guy put together a full bronze lorica squamata scale armor with maybe a bronze corinthian helmet, & bronze tipped spear & falcata sword.
Yeah I could do a close up look at the details and talk about it. The short of the matter is it's an old griffon helm made by armory Smith that they do not make anymore which is a shame, i love this helmet.
If you want to make the gauntlets more period appropriate, I think there are some makers who make mitten gauntlets designed for buhurt which are shaped/designed after late 14th century finger gauntlets :)
Already having the pauldrons attached before putting the kit on, along with front facing straps, actually makes this realistically thesible. Ima keep this in mind when i finally order my kit pieces. Edit: im gonna miss the beige and brown kit. R.i.p. DIY crusader
Kind of a long story. So I wanted my own colors and coat of arms for my kit, something simple and using yellow and black. So I did some research on the rules of heraldic designs and came up with a fee concepts. One was 3 black mallets on a field of yellow representing myself and my brothers who are all craftsmen. Turns out that design exists in the Zurich Wappenrolle. So I used that as my source and tweaked the hammer shape to match. Not only did I end up with a coat of arms with personal meaning, but by dumb luck it turns out to be perfectly historical. I'll probably do a video on it at some point or a Q and A and show the pictures of my designs.

The chest armor is that black thing with the studs, it’s called a Brigandine. Those studs are Rivets that are holding dozens of metal played to a jacket of wool and linen.
Ah yes. Non-articulated elbow cups . Watch out for the dislocation. But, meh, you're not really going to hurt yourself with the style of fighting that you do. This is relatively light duel, not full blows with a two handed axe directly on your joints.
Way more involved than throwing on my plate carrier. Armor sure has changed over the centuries.

The only way to defeat one of those, back then, was to let it be on the battlefield during an hot summer day.
