Good God it's painted on! That I did not know. I thought it was cut from sheets of sticky-backed plastic (all the rage in 1970s Britain). The auction place is only 30 miles away from me as well. My boss gets stuff there from time to time but he won't have seen this. Believe it or not, back in the 80s Zep were completely out of fashion and considered dinosaurs in the UK. What happened to the stuff in that touring company isn't surprising at all. Who remembers the story about Bonham's timpani being on the shop floor in Foote's Percussion in London for years? Literally gathering dust with his hand prints still on the skins. Then there was a customer of where I work who bought Bonham's first Ludwig kit and then couldn't sell it on in the back of the Rhythm magazine classifieds. I still have those old mags with the ads he ran each month. No one - no one - was interested in Bonzo's first kit! In the end he traded it in at Johnny Roadhouse music in Manchester. It wasn't until the 90s that people started rediscovering Zep. Trust me, in the 80s their memorabilia value in the UK was really low value.
IMO there is, or was, something applied to the inside around the edge. Maybe it is that sticky plastic you speak of. Like a one side super sticky Saran Wrap?
@@bonzoleum Yes, agree, there always looked like there was some sort of 'Powerstroke' type ring stuck to the inside. The sticky-backed plastic of the 70s was always coloured, I don't remember any clear pieces. It was manufactured to cover furniture - hard wood tables and chairs - normally in gaudy bright colours. I remember it being branded 'Fablon' and it was pretty damn fugly! I wonder if Mick Hinton cut a clear 26 head and created a DIY 'Powerstroke' ring. Maybe that's where Remo/Evans got the inspiration from when they started to manufacture inner rings for tone control? There was either something stuck there in one of the reso heads on the Vistalite, or it's an optical aberration.
Something like this could easily be duplicated if they have a depictive photo of it. Aside from Bonham supposedly owning this and without authentic documentation of sorts, there's nothing out of the ordinary which would deem this almost impossible to replicate.
That's pretty frgn cool,,,,if the new owner was willing to put the cash down....Personally speaking of course,,,,,it's going to a good home...hopefully they actually use it?? How cool is that...🥁💯🤓
Makes me wonder what's currently on Bonham's original orange Vistalite kit, wherever that is. Might it decrease the value a bit if it doesn't have the original head on it? Hmmm....
There’s a small chance Ludwig didn’t supply many many heads for the tours, same thing on Keith’s pictures of Lilly kit, he had a stack of those front heads available
Years ago I heard Pat sold the Vistalites to a collector for a mere $60K. Copeland auctioned his blue Tamas (Stewart needs $121,600 like I need another cymbal!); those Tamas belong in a museum. He's talking some smack I've never heard before over on Dr**eo (posted early this morning 9-24).
That was my thought too. I never really trust those celebrity drummer auctions unless the drummer in question is endorsing it himself. Call me a skeptic.
If I was insurance co that’s bought it . . . 26 x 6 vistalite shell with badge and spurs I’d 12 lug the thing put this redo head Hang on the wall with a pictures of it From live concerts get Jason to sign it
My buddy had one of those Bonham front heads on his Vista kit circa 1982, special ordered it with his Yellow Vistas, which I've never seen another one in the wild since. So those heads are out there. Short of Bonzo's signature on the head, I'd be doubtful.
Cool Terry.. great info. Please keep us posted on the Who bought it thang
There was likely a stack of these heads on tour 🤔
Thats cool Terry ! Love to hear your spin on the story, as always.
Good to have you back my son !
Fascinating!
You should have went in with George and bought this!

Cool beans!
It's iconic same as gilmour black strat. Worth much more that $65k.
Right, it could be resold for much more.

I don't know about this questionable team of consultants with strange names....😂
2:07 Ah yes, Philly Farrington, great guy. Know him well.
Philly singlehandedly solved the Thermo Bass Drum Depth Mystery!

Why wouldnt they leave it on and put the amber set in a museum?

@@totigerus Ya, seems like the original head should have never been off the set.
Absolutely. That set should be in the Rock Roll Hall of Fame.
What were the other drum heads? were they Bonham's too?
Personally, I'd rather have the music than the head so I guess I won the auction 😎
Cool
I don’t think I believe it, I would think Jason has it, & I highly doubt he’d part with it.
Who got head? 😂
Not me !

Ridiculous obviously bought by someone with more money than sense !!
