Steam trains puff through the beautiful countryside of western Poland stopping at gingerbread stations. But who is driving them? Rail expert Howard Jones runs short courses, which lets tourists drive.
When high maintenance costs threatened the last scheduled steam network, officials turned to Jones for help. His courses teach steam lovers how to drive a locomotive. Im English and Im here driving a locomotive with a whole lot of passengers behindits just amazing, beams Diane. Yet not everyone is happy with having novices up front because they can make the trains late.

Ah, a thing of beauty. I believe it is better to have a steamer out on the road doing what it was built to do instead of gathering dust in a museum. It gives you a better sense of what the past was like when you see the engine live and breathe.
they need to do the same thing here in America there are millions of train buffs that would go into deep dept just for a chance to operate a steam locomotive and the railroads cant see it cause of all the regs

A steam driven relationship......I still have to build my Ol49 as shown in the video, a paper model, 1:25 scale. Poland is the same Mecca for paper modelling as it is for steam engines
Fissionesque, you don't get it, they pay for the opportunity to run a steam engine because it is what they love, it is their hobby and passion.
Its great a few steam trains dont pullute that much & we have plenty of coal still, whereas oil requires allot of energy to turn into petrol and is running out. The british have always loved steam, and always will since beeching heretically systematically destroyed 60% of our railway network, if only he just mothballed it, but no he spent money detroying it, Poland must be one of the only places in the world where people can go & experience running a real steam train service.
@domainxx Emissions are far lesser than diesel, especially when steam is injected in the fire with the L.D. Porta-technique.

The Wolsztyn Experience is continuing through winter 2020, but I think that's going to be the end.
@@KnapfordMaster98 Actually a friend of mine went on it, he says it's still going, just stops and starts now and again.

Even China abolished steam trains! They're almost gone from the earth now.
its quite problematic,cause how can you drive a train full of passengers,when actually you have no idea about that?'short lesson' is not enough.thrilled woman sitting by the throttle is talking and not looking at the signs.not now! I dont mean,Im against mr Howard but it should be controlled,so it is safe and not harming for the locos(!!!).
I don't really see your point, its a single train running an a branch with few stops and signals, and the actual crew is in the cab too, not really much that can go wrong in my opinion, yes you have to know what you are doing (especially when firing) but as said, the crew is there keeping an eye so i don't really see a problem.
