- Greubel Forsey is financing Philippe DuFour to produce a film to record for posterity: watchmaking techniques that slowly are being lost, slowly are fading from memory. So that generations to come, people will have a recorded lesson, on how to do these steps of watchmaking.
Philippe DuFour shows us what he is going to be doing in his workshops for this film. He would like to share his knowledge and translate to the next generation what he knows, focusing on the most traditional handcraft, traditional ways of building a watch. Learn more about this art of watchmaking.
I was very fortunate to have met Mr Dufour in Genève. I knew than that, whenever i sold my company, i would go study watchmaking. Now 4 years later i’m In my third year at watchmaking in Schoonhoven in Holland. I can only look and learn from this man. Thank you for this video.
The best way to preserve the craft will be to have a complete documentary making a watch from start to finish. There is a lot more involved in making a watch that can be shown a few clips of the polishing operation and the Guilloche machine engraving a watch face. Cabinoters like Philippe Dufour,, Vianney Halter, Roger Smith, Roland Murphy and others produce a watch differently than a large watch factory making 25,000 to 1,000,000 watches per year. The equipment and manufacturing techniques are very different.

We enjoy Mr. DuFour in a limited number of minutes, he is good there are others we seek balances between the known and the lessor known in the finishing world for us this means a few additional continents needed more diversity in our current views here. How do we get to see these films they will be of great value helping us still and forever learning, no holidays no vacations not ever Philippe shared recently with an interviewer, we both felt right at home.
Great video, thank you so much. Lance & Patrick.

NO answer (yet)?
Now this is real watchmaking. He is right - with some operations it's impossible to exactly describe how the desired results are achieved, it all comes down to practise and innate experience
Fascinating video. But diamond paste doesn't seem so traditional to me?
Il est capital de transmettre ce savoir.. je suis sûre que Monsieur Dufour en est conscient cinq ans après j’ai toujours de l’espoir
Amazing man
