    Looks like tons of fun! What was the rod and reel set up you used for the manual reeling?

    Looks like lots of fun. I have never had the pleasure to fish for black cod . Thinking the electric reels are the answer for fishing them 😂PS lunch looks awesome 👏

      Lunch was awesome! Electric reels are great if your goal is just harvesting or to give anyone more accessibility who otherwise wouldn't be able to do it. We haven't used them a lot but they are quite impressive!

    Those Black cod look more like Atlantic cod caught off of Iceland, in terms of colour. They certainly don't have the very dark colour of the Alaskan Black Cod.

      Yes, we caught some in Alaska that were a very deep black. Those ones were at 1700ft though so I'm not sure if that may have something to do with it. Thanks for watching!

    That's not fishing, Brendan! 😄
    You're right though. You're harvesting. No problem with that. Now if you were ice fishing in 15 feet of water using a jawjacker...

      @@ReelWestCoast I was commercially diving up Indian Arm. When the day's work was over I left my drysuit on and we returned to the dock at Deep Cove. I wanted some crab to take home to the girlfriend. Whenever I brought crab home after work I was rewarded by the girlfriend.
      That day had turned out beautiful and by late afternoon when we arrived the Deep Cove dock was packed like sardines with people with lines and crab pots in the water.
      We tied up our boat, I threw on a tank and grabbed a goody bag. That's when all the crabbers started muttering and protesting. They knew what I was up to. Some of them pulled their traps up and went home. I then jumped in and got to the bottom, and it was like a Dungeness crab highway - with the destination being all the crabber's pots. I grabbed our limit (there were two of us) within about two minutes and surfaced to looks that could kill from the crabbers on the dock. Some of them had been fishing for hours for what it took me minutes to catch. I think some of them wanted to gut and fillet me and use me as bait.
      Do I feel bad about it?
      Nah. I was legal. 😅

    Times are changing when reeling up a black cod from 500 feet manually is a big deal lol

      @ReelWestCoast  5 месяцев назад

      Haha, yeah it's not that impressive of a claim but it was a fun comparison against an electric reel. If you want to you can check out when we manually pulled up Black Cod from 1700ft in Alaska. That was rough. Thanks for watching!
