I was once passionate about art. But then a course of events made me realize that using passion as a guide to what you ought to do with your life is a big mistake.
How so? What do you think one ought to do with one's life or who could serve as a better guide? If you have an answer, I would most definitely love to hear it!
Some people genuinely are passionate about their career. I personally tolerate mine. I haven't fully found my passion yet, but I believe it would only come from a hobby. I can never see clocking into work as a passion. It's something I have to do just to survive.
as opposed to 9-5 slavery and building a fake social status and personality to be like everyone else? you wont make it out alive either way so just do what u want
I can relate. Going to art school and doing commissions kind of killed my motivation to do art, because I'm not doing it for fun anymore like I used to. It's sad and painful, to see yourself struggling with what you used to love so much. But imagining a life being an accountant (my previous choice before art) and just staying in offices also sounds equally painful. I had an experience with that kind of job through summer jobs and very short internship when I'm still studying, and I don't want that similar experience again after college. Both have disadvantage and struggles, but going with art is the pain and struggle that I choose for. If any of you is still a high school student, take summer jobs or short internships, especially if you are unsure with what college course or job you wanna work for in future. Experience it yourself and see what you think is the right answer for you.
This was so nice!! I never watched Blue Period but I did read some of the manga, though as I quit drawing years ago it was kinda upsetting so I couldn't bring myself to continue it lol. But the message regarding passion is really meaningful and the struggle to figure out what you want to do is very relatable. If it is something we can discover, it'd be nice to find something that can make us feel the way art made him feel, if that is possible "x)
I really love this comment. Watching this anime made me really sad and ashamed for having quit art as a hobby. It was tough but also numbing. Every time he persevered through, I felt like a failure.
interesting choice to be talking about art and passion while plastering machine generated images all over the video, everybody wants to romanticize it but not respect it
This is striking while the iron is hot. The guy had a good idea-- a realization, he can't just keep it to himself otherwise he will lose the steam. I would also assume that the guy isn't primarily an illustrator. So give the guy some slack.
I sure do! Watched the anime like 3 times now, own the manga (physically), I'm also really looking forward to the upcoming IRL movie and recently even made a short painting Yaguchi's Bonds painting! I'm also an oil painter and a late bloomer so Blue Period really hits home for me.
This is a good video! Right now Im actually making portfolios and sending them to art Universitys. I really relate to him because my familys living conditions for me to pursue this carier arent the best and I have only 2 schools I can go to, If I get accepted. This has been my dream for 6 years, hope I get accepted! :)
I’ve went to a business school after middle school even though I wanted to go to a chemistry focused one but it was inconvenient to get to I studied business law for a while but it just never really clicked. I like law but yeah. I stopped. For a long time I didn’t do much of anything A week ago I attended a chemistry lecture at the local university. And I felt like I belonged there. Which made the realization that I can’t study it without wasting at least a year or two hit even harder. I didn’t leave my bed for the whole weekend. It’s weird.
this is also because passion was never thought in school and society would pressure you. what they taught in school was mostly standardize theories and such so you'll fit for a job like a mechanical robort working your days off with repetitive cycle of what you're doing that's why it's easier to get burn out. your not doing actually what you like it's just a job who give you money. plus art is not really viewed highly that's why it can earn only less compared to famous jobs out there
This is a familiar topic when it comes to the arts I believe, read Blue Giant, he wants to be the best jazz player in the world, finding direction again in Blue Orchestra and of course this beautiful series with Blue Period. The arts seem to flow with blue well.
Read the manga, its only short like 60 chapters or so, anime is bad adaptation despite being enjoyable they paced it bad and cut most the stuff that actually makes the manga good, the manga goes very in depth on actual art theory and psychology of artists the paintings and actual art they draw look trash in the anime too for some reason

It’s so ironic with what’s being discussed that the moment I realized I ended up clicking off half way. So unfortunate
Did the video get changed after this comment

you captured and explained blue period so well
Thank GOD there are still some people who like Blue Period

For anyone in search for passion, i recommend watching Grant Sanderson's graduation speech of 2024
That video was beautifully put together 😍 I am in love with the anime and got the first of the manga recently too
Not all passionate people are allowed to do what they are passionate about..

this thing came to me in the most weird phase of my life i was studying something I really had no passion about , it helped
This show made me double down on my ideas of “practice”. I’m updating myself fully into that artist I see internally. Hope your journey stays bright.
this video is soo oo underrated
Using ai art in a video about blue period is crazy bro
Amazing Video Essay
this video is great but considering its about art and using ai art is...an interesting choice?
