I sailed on this ship in the summer of 1978 for our High School Graduation celebration. We went to the Bahama's and had a grand time. Wish I had taken some photographs.
I sailed on her during the final years (1978) in the Caribbean. It was a four night cruise to Freeport and Nassau. What a ship ... even then. Wish I could have done a transatlantic on her.
This brings back many memories. My parents took us to Italy on the Leonardo Da Vinci 50 years ago today (Dec. 9, 1961). It was the beginning of an incredible year -- our first living in a foreign country. I'll never forget seeing Gibralter on the horizon after being at sea for 8 days. The Leonardo Da Vinci was a wonderful ship. We still remember Dino and Claudio, two waiters who were very nice to us kids. Maybe they're in this video somewhere.
developerglowingpigs , this is truly amazing ! My parents also took me and my two sisters on this ship. I remember having an autograph puppy with me and I had it signed by most of the crew and staff. And yes Dino signed It ! I think Dino was the bar tender. Our dining room waiters were Claudio and pietro ! Wonderful childhood memories !
Our family immigrated to the the US aboard the Leonard DaVince in Jan. of 1965. Amazing to see this footage now so many years later... thank you for that.
What a superb piece of pure nostalgia ! Those kids will remember it for the rest of their lives. An absolute treat to a shipping enthusiast like me. Thanks very much for uploading
Our January crossing from Italy would have been much more enjoyable in the summer! Wish I could have made the trip as an adult - would have enjoyed it more. Thanks for posting!
Do you think it's a good idea to let your kids go to a forgein country on a ship by themselves? Also I think they used clips from this film in an episode of Pee Wee's Playhouse.
I remember being on this ship , and I was no more than 5 or 6 years old. All the crew were so friendly ! I especially remember Dino , the bar tender.

I may have been on that same cruise.
Our Senior Cruise was on the Leonardo the week of May 4, 1978. Small world

One of the most beautiful ship videos here. Thank you heartily!
Travelling like that would have been marvellous...Those who travelled are so lucky...
What a wonderful bit of nostalgia, talk about the good old days!
Ahh… the days when a kid could get a tour of the bridge. Ain’t gonna happen now.

Lucky kids, this ship was beautiful as the Andrea Doria.I know a couple who sailed on her in the '60's.

Absolutely beautiful. Thank you.
Oh my! This is beautiful! I wish more people had videos like this here!
My family took the Leonardo Davinci to Naples in 1961
Nice views of a ship that has unfortunately past into history.
@MaruscaSGatto I hated it when the Italian Line repainted the ships white.
It's good that they did an evacuation training
Beautiful ship.....👍🏻🙂
that looks like fun to do as a kid......
Name of the song they played on the deck they showed??
0:56
Queen Mary behind the ship
That’s actually _Queen Elizabeth,_ identifiable by the vents in her funnels.
Christopher R. Correct. I have seen the Elizabeth before (not in real life)
and i also hated when they painted it to all white
@HCShannon Lol! :)
I'm sure they were supervised like children and those in need of assitance travel by flight. :)

Looks like the Andrea Doria
I wonder if it was its sister ship
Mitch G no she didn’t. Actually she was bigger than Doria and Colombo, with many more safety features
Is this her maden voyage or a regular voyage?
This was in 1967. Her maiden voyage was in 1960.
