I have two of those large but low Alex drawer units and I love them so much. They are the perfect height for art supplies of all kind. I crafted some dividers (or reused some packaging boxed ) and store my watercolours, my palettes, my inks, my pencils , my crafting supplies (box cutter, Xacto knife, glue gun etc), my rulers, my tapes etc.
I don't personally uses them for my papers because I prefer to organise my paper vertically rather than horizontally for easiness of reach, and so use some cubes of my kallax for those .
I have a 4x4 cubes kallax that stores a lot of art supplies too. The papers pads and blocks, sketchbook, binders and similar stuff I organise vertically in the naked cubes (like you would books on bookshelves). For other stuffs I bought the fabric drawer insert to have the convenience of drawers without loosing storage space.
I don't have any wall mounted stuff because I am renting.

I find with the raskog cart, I've been storing my duplicates of adhesives etc in the 2nd shelf, and rolls of contact paper on the 3rd, as well as boxes of plastic bags. I find that putting things that I can grab while I'm sitting at my desk that I don't have to bend down to, works well. Also having the cutting board that can fit on the top is great because it gives an extra work space temporarily.

Hello Irit, I am so glad I found your youtube channel. I have been trying to figure out how to set up an artist/office space in a very small little part of my bedroom. (i think in the original plan it was meant to be a nursery room but the wall wasn't put in so it expands the bedroom.) Essentially 167.64 cm x 247 cm.
Your mentioning of the Kallax which can be open cubes or with the inserts seems to fit what I need in my space. Thank you for that idea. Also about the large Alex for all the Paper madness that us watercolourists have. :)
You have interesting ideas for exercises & practice for loosening up with watercolours, I am excited to delve into your video's so see more of what you are creating.
To me your english sounds very Canadian... at least doesn't have any noticeable American or British accent so I wondered if you learned english abroad in Canada?

I am considering a studio revamp so just FYI I may change stuff in my own space but I definitely still think Kallax plus those Samla boxes are the best flexible, easy to get and assemble budget friendly option.
I am considering switching some areas in my studio (for example I have a 20 year old Billy bookcase that's really an eyesore) to the IVAR system. That series is unprimed pinewood and very paint friendly it seems. Maybe it would also work for you (it has a more open storage room look than the Kallax).
As for my English, I owe it all to TV and music, never studied abroad (only in German speaking lands) , but I'm glad I have a mysterious accent 😉

I also have the Alex drawers (amongst other things), but I didn’t like the wheels and thought it was to low so I bought some bed legs and screwed on.
I really like how it turned out. I just have some staining left to do. I have my art corner in my living room and are a bit picky about how things look😅

So true! I call it the IKEA effect. Starts wonderful and then at some point one can't take it anymore and lose the will to live 😂 I have resorted to either ordering online with shipping or click and collect!

How come you didn't get to the large painting storage? I was really interested in that because I have pads and art that is way too big to store in those drawers

Yeah I thought you had mentioned something at the beginning of the video but then I noticed right after I commented that you were talking about the big white storage bins at the end
Thank you for this video. Be careful about the weight of things you put in Alex. The drawers of mine get stucked many times. I have some watercolor palettes or paint tubes in it and I bother with this many times. I think I should put papers in them instead.

Hi Irit, thanks for the video, was wondering which size pads of paper fit in the Alex? would A2 fit (420 x 594mm) doing some studio renovations and so was thinking of buying these
That is a great question. It should fit. The measurements of the inside space of the drawers are 42.5x 60 cm. I have a paper pad that is 42x56cm and it fits with a bit of space on the longer side. Hope that helps!
