He was great as a White Sox announcer, honest. That's the way his managers and coaches were to players pre 1970 or free agency tough. Little coddling. Most players weren't given high $ long term contracts.
Ahh, the double-breasted jacket. I wanted one because Dave wore one. I was 14 or 15. My mother thought it was stupid. She thought there was something fundamentally wrong with double-breasted jackets. I said, well, David Letterman wears them!
@@nedwart Oh, I got the jacket. Wore it to death. My best friend was with us shopping. She looked at him like, "Is this acceptable for wear?" and he shrugged like There's nothing wrong with it. David Letterman wears one.
Dave should of asked him about the time he wore a Beatles wig and played air guitar as he approached home plate to bat. The umpire demanded him remove the wig.
Modern medication would have helped Jimmy considerably with bi-polar disorder, however, back when he was playing, about the best that could be done were shock treatments and tranquilizers.
I've just watched the film 🎥 Fears strikes out, very moving and emotional. Great acting. 👍🇬🇧
Thank you for posting such a treasure
Baseball legend. Big influence on my life. But I sure as hell don’t know why.
Jimmy Piersall was built like an athlete . He's got the build of a halfback . Look at the shoulders on him .
The fact he predicted the 84 champs is amazing lol
The Tigers were clearly the best team that year and they were 49-17 the day they taped this show. He wasn’t exactly going out on a limb there.

Two days before the Sandberg game.
His stats were solid
just thinking the same. with ALL his issues.
This reminds me of the Carrie Fisher appearances on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Someone who took ownership of their mental health issues.
Back when Fear Strikes Out came out(1956) people didn't really talk about mental illness

He looks bigger than letterman
Is that tower still there?
Classic early Letterman
He never did ask him about the time he ran backwards around the bases....oh well.
AB Smith I'm trying to find it too. not sure if he went to third then home or actually ran backwards.
I believe he ran the bases in correct order. He just ran backwards.
Dave should of asked him about the time he wore a Beatles wig and played air guitar as he approached home plate to bat. The umpire demanded him remove the wig.
literally 1984
Anyone have the Letterman episode from June 2nd, 1984?
Guess not
Google it
Carol Leifer strikes me as a female version of Jay Leno here.
Wow, Tab Hunter would have been perfect for the movie version, they really resembled one another.
Dennis Jacks You know he was supposed to play Jimmy in the movie...
Tony Perkins swiped it from him… Tab told it all in his bio and biopic
The Best

Jim was put on lithium after his electro shock treatments and therapy. Jim played up to his 'zanyness' and laughed all the way to the bank.
