Its really important to let go of the idea of artwork being perfect.
When I first went urban sketching, I saw a lady’s piece, and I said it was amazing. She said that it wasn’t, if she held it up to the scene, it didnt look much like the scene. She said that she learned that it just need to look good on the page, it didn’t have to be perfect.
Absolutely perfect timing :D i am playing with gouache for the 2nd time ever today, and this is just what i need.
One of the differences between traditional and digital is the mistakes. With digital pieces, there are less mistakes due to the impermanence of digital. Just because you've finished the line art and colouring, doesn't mean you can't go back and fix that one wonky line.
Traditional doesn't have that, which is something that gives traditional pieces some additional character.
At the same time, the permanency of traditional means every pen line or stroke of a paintbrush, will cause an irreversible change to the piece. If something ends up not looking the way you want and you can't reasonably change it, you have to either move on and hope for the best or start over. So digital avoids this problem.
Enjoyed watching this so much! Keep up the good work!
Lovely vid, Soph!
the problem with accepting mistakes is that you ignore one, then you ignore two, three and so on. And the more they are, the more it becomes difficult to keep drawing. Since you look at the drawing as a whole, you easily see is all messed up. Othe people may say it is a good drawing, but i thonk is better to trust your gut in certain crcumstance.
If it looks bad to you, then is bad. It it looks good to you, better look for an advice, you're most likely overestimating your abilities.
There are people that draw poorly. They just surrende to their mistakes and keep drawing poorly.
This has really helped me look at my art with a new light, and given me motivation ☺️
i cant keep everything that doesnt work out, would be a fire hazard with all the piles of bad art everywhere lol
