Hahaha, from the comments people really think this is an exhibition match. LOL.
Here is a secret: It´s not.
Don´t get me wrong, I love Matsushita, he was the greatest defender at the time.
But be aware of what Waldner did here. He could do everything he wanted to Matsushita. And Waldner knew it. He switched in exhibition mode when Matsushita had still some hope to come back. But Waldner knew it was done. It probably was a even little bit harsh towards Matsushita when Waldner started exhibition, but you have to realize he knew what was going on in this game. This game should be memorized how a genius plays against very strong defense - great placement, control balls and the stops, etc.
Mind you, this was a real game and Walner was just a little more than confident and he played like the genius he is.

It's usually the player that knows he's beaten that initiates the exhibition play, not the player who is doing the beating haha very cheeky Waldner. I agree this is not an exhibition it's a master at work.

+Enkidu1701 In addition to your comment, I think it's important to mention that this happens relatively often in table tennis and that it's never to make the opponent look bad, quite the opposite. In a situation like this, everyone prefers a good show.

Ma Long and many players in today's style of play would spin and smash those balls like there's no tomorrow. But players like waldner wins in a different way which is more technical in my opinion.

Ma Long always struggled against Joo Se Hyuk who was way past his prime in many of their matches.Ma Lin wasn't much better either.

Hi ingullar. Waldner won against Ma Lin at the Olympic Games in Athens. He let him look very old. I was there and saw it. Waldner then was 39, Ma Lin was 24! Don't speak about today. Waldner is now 46. Of course he can not stand anymore against modern Asian TT generation. But a bit more respect would not be so bad anyway.

can't defenders just keep their serve short? this one surely can't. seems good to avoid an initial forehand spin if you keep it short.
