My first time hearing this album we had indulged in substances all day, capped off by taking ?MDMA? something with initials, anyways...I was handed a tablet and they put this on later....my mind was racing, but my body was lazy and I sank into the couch, ogling the album sleeve and journeying the cosmos across space and time and it was 2 yrs later at a record store in Texas that I saw this album and snatched it up (I could not recall the name of it, nor the band, but instantly recognized it upon sight) Also bought Beck's 'Stereopathetic Soul Manure' and 'One Foot in the Grave' that day...it was a great day. Cool Waves is tops though...
I agree, it does capture some essence of what it's like to be in love (plus it's a gorgeous song), but... I think the tone is more about desperation (and not solace). like a fear of losing someone, of losing a special connection to time. because relationships can be ephemeral.
Are you fucking kidding.. This song encapsulates losing someone you love and having no choice or say in the matter.. It's brutality, wonderfully superb
Saw them live here in Detroit around 10 years ago. Didn't know what to expect. I was totally and completely blown away by the show. Full gospel choir and string section. I got goose bumps on a few songs!
My girl and I are having problems. We haven't spoken in days. Until she returns my calls, I am only listening to this song - because I finally "Get It"...
I remember buying my first "audiophile" hifi system, and playing this album on vinyl from start to finish as a way of gauging the difference from my old system... i was with my girlfriend (who wasnt aware of Spiritualized till i played them), when the third verse started i said "wow, thats the best ive ever heard this record"... Her reply was "its amazing, music for the soul"... Summed it up better than i ever could! True story that....
TheLexyboy I have been playing this album non stop yesterday - only pausing to go out out, in which case I was talking about Spiritualized and how great this album is! 😊 x That is also a true story 😊 x
Everybody is saying how romantic it is, and I mean, they're not wrong but... This more feels like the person begging the other person not to break up...
I wonder what "slide" means in this song. I never quite understood the choice of diction, but I like how it sounds. Either way, this is such a beautiful song of desperation.
ok.....make it 3 albums by floyd that are ok...Meddles good, Momentary lapse of reason is hardly Pink floyd (well played to the session musicians), also good to trip to. And apparently live in Pompey, one I don't own. still don't rate them. Gong kill them, Ozrics kill them, Hawkwind kill them, Spiritualised kill them., Grateful dead kill them. Truth is floyd do the same old boring colours and patterns. I will trip to live in Pompey, in fact Im on it next weekend, Floyd are still amazing song writers and have done some amazing albums, I think Dave Gilmore is the best one note guitarist in the world, you know who's playing that one tone,, when it comes to two note/ tones then thats a different matter. Still love them, but to smoke to more than trip to.
King Belsey its pompeii and how was the trip?? dont be a cliche hater on floyd. they influenced spiritualized and secondly dark side is amazing. u can like spiritualized and pink floyd at the same time. not one is better than the other.
They don't kill Pink Floyd. Infact they don't even come fuckin close but you are entitled to your opinion. There is a reason Pink Floyd is considered as one of tf best progressive rock band of all time and all these other bands are Not. May be pink Floyd is not for you. Too bad!
+hicore It screams an addict thinking love will save him, and when it doesn't he slides back onto drugs. It's a desperation of wanting go fix something in yourself when you feel fundamentally broken.
ScreamingTc Shit, I better get off all food or TV. Some people are addicted to useless judgement that prevents them from enjoying this beautiful song about love and it doesn't scream at all, and yes, love saves because I'm finding out that everything else is just blah blah blah. And as far as addictions, 99 % of great music today and yesterday is a direct result of altered states because this society offers nothing but brain clutter from which the real expression, creativity, and learning is rarely possible. There is more to life than just survival. It's amazing to me how someone can degrade this beautiful piece down to desperation or drug addiction. Go fish. Sometimes things don't go as we are hoping and that can bring about loads of pain. Everyone deals with that pain differently and that has NOTHING to do with this amazing song about a moment of true love. Edit: my mistake. You were referring to the whole album. No offense, but you must be on crack. This album is one of the best albums ever made and you can relate it to anything you wish, especially to the feeling and experience of loving someone or something more than you love yourself. I am guessing your reply would be to just love ourselves. That's all great, but you must be joking.
Pink floyd are shit to trip to...they're boring and over rated. Gong however, much better in my opinion, were underrated, Jason's music is better by a country mile. Spiritualized will go down as one of the greats by true acid heads, Pink floyd will not, but will make a lot of money from a load of fakers/ Space cadets.
wellp.... spiritualized has a big pink floyd influence btw and imo in this song its felt pretty welll. google it if dont believe. still tho i love spiritualized, and neutral about floyd
darkside anybody? ok my fave floyd album is relics...it's all about relaxing and getting into Syd and Roger..this is not a rave party, it's about loving people and this planet..if that don't work try me mate anton newcombe from the Brianjonestown massacre ..A writes about 8 tunes a week, a highly prolific psychedelic artist, just a random track here ruclips.net/video/medDI6FkKlI/видео.html

This song perfectly captures what it's like to be in love. Everything about it is romantic and extremely sweet in the best way possible.
but also sad af when you get dumped...
@@JosefRosam exactly spacemans sentiments on this track I believe rather than that of joy at being in love

Listening to this right after ''Nowhere Near'' by Yo la Tengo is a new concept of sweet masochism
Are you me?
@@amandapierce1533 I don't think so, but if I am, I will take good care of me.
'Summer comes undone' by Yo la Tengo.
everything about this song is epic..the melody flows so well throughout
I don't know about you but this song tears me apart
Even when not in love.
Thank the god that this was created. Blessings to all who are hearing. 🍑
Still on a Spiritualized kick this week. This is my Wednesday track.
It's my any day track. Solid tune

meh, why a username1? always wondered that too. could be a reference to drugs
I think it means the way she slides up to his side to lean against him.
