I've been trying to emulate his style for years, he was an inspiration for a lot of bass players.
Very tight. Nicely done. Among the best "cover" I have heard of this song. Just saw TOP, again, still going great. RIP Rocco.
Mad respect for Rocco! He can repeat the same bass line a thousand times, yet each line is different and still funky. Now that, is the essence of art in understanding and playing the bass!
John Viavattine, Jr. is a world class bass player as well.
He really nailed the bass on this feel and tone is spot on.
This needs more views!!!!! Good job it is indeed groovin very hard
I was just a skinny little freshman when Rocco and Mimi graduated from JFK high school in Fremont California.
In my senior year Rocco’s girlfriend Glenda Preston brought a box full of East Bay Grease albums and sold them for five bucks a pop. By the end of the day she had sold them all.
I’ve been a big fan of T.O.P. ever since.
They’re still the tightest horn section in the business.
Rocco Prestia ENORME❤️ riposa in pace maestro ❤️
Rocco the best ❤
The amazing Dave Hanlon on drums, with Ronnie Leigh on lead vocals!!! How could you go wrong!! And who is this Tom Hemby on guitar?? Wow! So tight … great horns and bass …. With Mr Nanni on keys ….. great rendition of one of their most recognizable songs.
Rocco was great and I still go to see TOP when they come to town
Glad this channel is still releasing content
Awesome for my !! Tank you for sharing .......
Most bass players know what it means when somebody says “play it like Rocco.”
Fantastic!

All due respect to Tom on guitar.....but, the original guitar solos where in continuity with the tight grove of the bass and drums. Yes, I love to take long solos and play legato lines. It's cool and fun....but to my ear, "What is Hip" never sounded better than with that original guitar track. This tune is ALL about the grove. My 2 cents. (And yes, I purchased the original album when it came out in 73')
Thanks for your opinion. That's what makes the world go round. Copping it exacly like the record was never our approach here. Just paying well deserved respect and a thank you to a great band, and to a bass player, "the one and only Rocco" who set the standard. Hope you enjoyed it though, we sure did putting it together.
