I used Barbour wax that I had left over. I put it on hot, using a sponge after heating the tin in a boiling pan of water. I used a sponge and was careful to do it minimally, using a wipe on wipe off technique. It worked great. I also wiped off any excess then i used the hair dryer to set it. I bought mine second hand and when it came the colour was faded which was dissapointing. I figured in for a penny in for a pound. It looks much better than it did. Like new. Thanks
I did this 3 days ago and destroyed my backpack. Oily stains everywhere. Even after 3 times washing, i cant remove it. Dont use on normal kanken that is not G1000😢
I don’t actually know…I have some and I should try! Will keep you posted. I guess though that a balm would absorb in the fabric rather than create a protective layer on the top
Hi! Thanks so much for contacting me! Currently my backpack is with my sister, as soon as she’s back I ll check for you. On the website they mention vinylon but I am not 100% sure that that’s my model. Will let you know in a couple of weeks
Hi! Not that I could notice. I was skiing this winter and the backpack was good. The only time I see white spots appearing is when the backpack is rubbing against something corse…•like tree bark. But it takes a bit of hair dryer to get it back to normal
@@Multicrafts1 I read upon it and I think the risks are two: 1) using too much heat can affect the fabric…I use a very low setting (don’t know if I mentioned that in the video). 2) the colour may change a bit. In my case it get a bit darker, and I don’t mind it at all. That backpack turns brand new 😂
Suppose you have just smeared the backpack with that grease and did it as it should. Won't your clothes take over that wax when you have the backpack on your back and sweat a bit? I have the backpack and when I go hiking with it on a hot day my back is wet where the backpack touches. For this reason I hesitate to lubricate my backpack with this.
Hi!I couldn’t really see any grease being released. Having said that I used their wax…which may be made of vegetable matters, but I could be wrong. Never had any problems so far 😊 I would recommend to try and wax the front pocket perhaps and see how it behaves
Thank you so much, my Kanken backpack was really leaky and I was thinking of buying another one but rather don't do that, so now I will try this!
Definitely a good trick! Let me know if you need any help with the process! Happy to troubleshoot
Oh so you can re-wax them!!!! amazing news I just washed mine after four years (don’t judge) And it’s feeling a little dry so glad I know now
Absolutely! You d be surprised how well it turns out!
I used your process recommended and it was great! Thank you so much!
You're so welcome! ❤️
looks like a beautiful bag and such an eco-friendly way to keep it looking and working great!
It's definitely my favourite bag so far!!!!
I’ve also seen people using an iron but that scares me lol. I feel like it would melt the bag. Thanks for suggesting the hair dryer!
Oh no I d be terrified! 😓

Absolutely!!! I am using my backpack quite roughly and I am
Mesmerised every time I re wax it! Such a brilliant way to bring it back to life
This is a great video, thanks for the very clear advice.
Thanks so much for the lovely comment!!!
Really helpful video, thank you for sharing!
Greetings from Sweden
Glad it was helpful!

Yes on the homepage it literally says the greenland wax is only for the G 100 versions not for the Vinylon
Thanks for sharing this method :)
My pleasure 😊
I wonder can i use leather balm with contains beeswax too.. Like whats good for shoes wont be wrong for my backpack right?

Is your backpack made out of the G1000 material or vinylon?

@@ScottishCriticalThinker true. The G1000 have leather details. So far as I know, the wax is for the G1000.
Hi! Thank you a lot for the video! Do white spots appear on the backpack in cold weather?

So I purchased the 17” laptop Kanken.. and found out its not made with the G-1000 fabric but with Vinylon F. Can I just use “Scotchgard” on it?
I read somewhere that is not recommended...although I have been doing that for a few years now and I find it absolutely perfect
I have the same question, I bought Scotchgard but I didn’t tried yet 😅

Should only be waxing kanken 2 G1000 bags not the standard vinylon ones.

will the wax start soking inside backpack or on the clothes in hot summer?
I don’t think that would be the case, with this process such a small amount of wax is used that won’t really pass through the fabric
@@irishfarmart thank you for answering my question :)
@@bronek7729 my very pleasure! Sorry couldn’t give you a more empirical answer 😅
can i use reqular beeswax?
I haven't tried but I think would be the same! Actually more sustainable perhaps
