Love the message and love how you you say it with such passion and conviction! As a beginner, it's really refreshing and heartening to not only find your channel and instruction, but also to find you. I find you incredibly inspiring, both as a guitarist and as a person, and wish you all the best.
Some of the BEST ADVICE on the learning process PERIOD!!! I am not a beginner but I definitely appreciated the advice, philosophy and logic. Thank You very much!!!
You're one of the rarest musician and teatcher i've seen, who really understand what is music and how you learn it ! Thanks for that message, i've need to hear it ! Thanks man ;)
Even though I'm following your videos for nearly 6.5 years and also the fact the I'm a guitarist myself and it's been 11 years playing, still i would say that this is THE best video of your's. You've been a very helpful teacher for me and I agree to every word you said,it was literally a thought going on and on in my mind for a very long time, really appreciate your efforts and views... Thanks 😊. Lots of love from India 💕🇮🇳
I absolutely love your channel, I can't believe you don't get more attention! Also, would you please consider doing a cover for "Good things fall apart" by Illenium and John Bellion? It is a really great pop/edm song that has a simple recurring guitar melody that I would love to see your take on.
Yeah! What an inspiration. Bet you upset some teachers out there.... but in my long years I have found that a good teacher teaches you how to learn - which is exactly YOU. Go set the cat amongst the pigeons :)
When I was a teacher I tried to teach only when necessary. I tried to show my students how to learn things on their own. When I was teaching Saxon math once, I thought I was giving the best presentation ever. After a while my 6th grade student, Ronnie Black Bird, raised his hand and asked if I would quit talking so he could get to work. I never gave a class presentation. After that, I never gave another class presentation and the scores went up.
Man when i picked up guitar a year ago, everybody told me wat i had to do. Im 39 yrs old, i know so much music just cant play it. I dont even want to play songs. I want to know everything about how my machine works. Ive tried this 5 times. Slapped a slide on my pinky and went straight to open d minor! Cheers man! Ive fired 5 teachers. They play stuff and then want me to copy them. No thAts exactly what i dont want to do.
I think there is a certain repertoire that can be very useful for a beginner because it's fun to play and emcompasses one or more techniques that will be very useful as the student progresses. The point is that some teachers became to attached to that same repertoire. It could be better if the teacher tries to "read" what kind of music inspires the students to pick up the guitar and then offer a good set of tools to help them progress in that specific direction.
Figure out where you want to go... before you leave. I would say one more thing - focus on what you can do, rather than on what you cannot do. If you keep coming back to the instrument because you are having fun, and you are good at a particular style, things will generally fall into place, and you will be surprised when something you want is now attainable. Thanks Assaf
So true I was only interested in fingerstyle and every teacher said yeah not a problem until you have already paid and it's back to basic strumming and chord changes that's why I only watch you
