    Great insight into a contrast we guitarists need to know. My experience is that classical expresses bass/melody lines with more distinction. But, bending notes and the corresponding available emotion is the realm of steel string. Your teaching is beyond good. I am an advanced player that really respects your teaching skills.

    I own both a classical and a steel-strung guitar. The classical guitar I own is of better quality and build than my acoustic guitar. That said, I feel classical guitars are a lot more responsive and better for articulation and expression. The melody can really shine in a classical guitar and the bass sounds rich and deep. The music sounds a lot more balanced in a classical guitar.
    But I do feel that there are things you can do with an acoustic guitar (like tapping, perhaps) which aren't quite suited to the classical guitar. There are cases where the acoustic guitar shines in a way the classical guitar cannot. Both instruments have their proper place, but the classical guitar wins out for me!

    I have classical guitar and a few steel string guitars. I love them all. One big advantage of classical is that my wife lets me play it softly while we watch TV. That's another hour or more a night of practice for me.

    This is my two cent. For classical stuff ofcourse the classic guitar is better. I am talking about play solo arrangement of pop/rock songs, it just sound better in an acoustic guitar, because the note last longer, and you can add a lot of percussive technique to it,so the song sounds really rich and alive, and even better than play the song on piano, which impossible if you play classical guitar technique only.
    I practice a lot with classical guitar though. Because the string so gentle I can do 4 hours straight , while with Acoustic guitar my finger burn out after more than 1 hour of intense training.

  • @MoosFantaSea
    @MoosFantaSea 4 года назад +12

    I've always played on a classical guitar. It sounds "warmer" and more defined. The strings last longer (depends on the brand, but I use Savarez) and are easier for the fingers. I don't like the sound of a western guitar - they sound.. dead? . I do however really love resonator guitars - specially the full bodied metal ones. They sound awesome when using a metal finger-slider!
    One way to get around the wear and tear on a classical guitar from using a pick or slapping it too much is buying a tap-plate (golpeador) and place it between the bridge and the soundhole.

    • @emily_the_studd
      @emily_the_studd 2 года назад

      Wouldn’t the finger plate be for more flamenco style music? Just wondering. I’m not an expert yet. lol. Much a beginner still.

    • @MoosFantaSea

    Acoustic guitar is better for playing simpler music. the notes linger a bit longer before fading. as you said it can sound more alien... and that's a good thing if you want to create special atmospheric music. non chord tones in rhythm sound really good with steel guitar. soft, gentle stuff is better played with classical. picks work better with steel strings.

    I love Zac Brown Band's music...but of course he plays Classical. I've always played acoustic-electric or electric. I can't decide which to get. Apparently Classical is wider on the neck. Yet I have always sucked at fretting an acoustic guitar. Yes, I 'could' fret them strength-wise. It gave me callouses on the fingertips (normal, of course) that would peel as I played. When I would go to put my contacts in every morning, the fingertip skin would be peeling on them. It looks like Classical is easier to fret, of course...and has a brighter/more peaceful tone. Has anyone ever played blues on Classical, for instance? Probably doesn't sound very good. How much more difficult is learning to adjust to the width of the neck of a Classical after playing electric and acoustic?

      You could try it on a nylon string guitar, but you might have to have the nut filed so that the strings fit the slots. I'm not sure, but maybe do a quick google search. For a regular steel string acoustic, and on electric you might have to have the nut filed and see if the bridge can fit the strings slots. Also on an electric the pickup positions on how they're situated on the guitar will be accenting certain frequencies that may or may not be intended. research "upside down pickups" or jimi hendrix's sound since with his fender guitar his "bass strings" the E, A, and D strings would receive more accent on the higher frequencies (treble) whereas the G, B, and e strings would receive more accent on bass frequencies making the overall sound a bit different .
