      I keep a lot of our surplus wire from projects and the pink wire was the first I grabbed. Fortunately it matched the beads and I kind of like bright, colored ear wires.

    What a great idea. Thank you. I particularly liked learning to snip that flat portion off the inside of the small spiral. It makes it much cleaner!

    Hi Steve and Debby. These earrings are awesome! I so going to make them!
    I already used the tips of piping bags to make spiral Christmas tree earrings, but your idea to have the wire with beads IN the pen tube is a really great idea!
    I have so many beads to chose from…
    Wish me luck! I can’t wait to start making them!

    • @homestrungjewelry
      @homestrungjewelry  10 дней назад

      Thank you and good luck. Now I absolutely have to get out my piping bag tips and try making spiral cone earrings.

  • @renovclean2
    @renovclean2 8 дней назад

    Another great idea is making a five round or six round spiral and then pulling it on each end that’s how I made my Christmas trees this year then you use the technique that you’re using putting the wire in the middle with the beads. I couldn’t keep them in stock this past holiday!

      Thanks for the tip. I do something similar to make Christmas tree earrings. I should do a tutorial when winter comes around again.

      Thank you. We like to use stuff anyone can find around the house. $75 pliers are cool, but a toothpick can be priceless when nothing else will work as well.

    Take apart a dried up marker and use that for a different size spiral.

    • @homestrungjewelry
      @homestrungjewelry  11 дней назад

      Yup. Great idea. Debby tried this before she found her pen, except the marker wasn't dried up. DON'T DO THIS WITH A FRESH MARKER!!! When they say "permanent" they mean "permanent". She has sworn me to secrecy so I can't go into details, but I'm sure she'll be fine in a couple of weeks.

    I have seen wires not being perfect sized. However, I have more issues with beads having smaller holes. I buy them on strings or I string to make certain that they will work in my creative endeaver. A cheap bead reamer helps clear the bead too.

    • @homestrungjewelry
      @homestrungjewelry  10 дней назад +1

      A lot of truth in what you say. We've learned from sad experience to always check and to not necessarily trust the sizes we get from the vendors.

      Opening the loop on the ear wire? Or the loop at the end of the spiral? Either way, I'll try to do better in the future.

    Did you use 20 gauge wire on all your earrings? Is that the best gauge to use?

    • @homestrungjewelry
      @homestrungjewelry  9 дней назад

      For the ear wires I use 20 or 22 if copper or plated/enameled copper, but 22 gauge will have a harder time keeping its shape. I will also usually use a nylon or leather hammer to work harden the wire after it is formed and hammer flat the back of the loop to give some rigidity to it. The spiral, I just use 20 gauge. All of the wire is usually dead soft for ease of bending, but sometimes I'll use half- hard for the ear wires. Just keep in mind, there will be more spring back when using half-hard, so you will need to use slightly smaller mandrills to let the same size loops.
      Would you be interested in a video tutorial on this? Let me know.
