Even though the second apartment has a somewhat outdated vibe, I find it very appealing due to its layout, the size of the living space, and the view. I'd say, "I'll take it." But the third apartment... despite being a bit more expensive, having less square footage, and requiring the windows in the lower bedroom to be at least partially covered with frosted film for privacy, it really gives you something to think about. The two outdoor spaces are amazing. And if it would be possible to add a mezzanine in the room with the incredibly high ceiling...
The third one was incredible. I loved the mix of indoor and outdoor space. I always found a full backyard so wasteful, but most patios rather small. This feels like the perfect middle ground. You can always add blinds if wanted too, otherwise the natural sunlight is a great addition to the property.
I thought the second one was by far my favourite place... Until you showed the rooftop balcony of the last place ! That is something that can't be topped, not even by the possible close-up view of Tokyo Tower at night !
I like the 2nd one for having more space than the 1rst. That 3rd one's my second favorite just because of the ability to have a more separate guest bedroom, an office, or a fancy social gathering spot
Second is my favourite. It has bar table, large bedrooms with good closets, view and even garbage shreder. Never heard of microwave + GAS oven combo. Sounds crazy to not just make it all electric. I really love first balcony with planter in third appartment, but the rest of it, not so much. I do actually like my privacy. Fist had terrible bathroom - nice toilet, but cleaning behind sink is pain and cleaning behind bath tub? NOPE! Also showering with closed curtains seems like terrible idea and then to dry it out… Would like to see something in South Edogawa. Really liked my month stay there 2 years ago.
#3 is the best and it's really not even close. I pay 3400usd for my spot in higashiazabu and it can go toe to toe with the first two listings here. Fun video and close to home!
Can you make more of the "budget" or bit cheaper properties? Of course it isnt only the price, but i have the feeling, that the higher the price, the more uniform the apartment becomes. (maybe its also an age thingy)
im kinda curious what you could get for $4k in shinjuku/shibuya if you don't necessarily need to be in azabu. but this is super entertaining and informative thank you!
My husband and I always love watching a new video and dreaming about moving our family to Japan, but we dont often see family homes or ones with more than two bedrooms. Are three and four bedroom homes just unheard of and ridiculously hard to find in Japan? If so, I challenge you to find them for your next video.😅
@TokyoPortfolio Wow, okay. Does that mean that people with 3+ kids would have to search for larger homes in more rural areas outside of Tokyo? 🤔 Or is it the same kind of situation there as well?
Nice apartments but hmm... I'm looking at buying a place near Oimachi and thankfully, while expensive, isn't as high-priced as these places! Though I'm also considering Kawasaki and the like, Musashi-Kousugi, Mizonokuchi, Kawasaki... I rather like living in Kanagawa.
The last one was worth the money. The other 2 while nice were very uninspiring. I like that you had planters and 2 balconies in the last one. Anyone that could afford any of these should probably just splurge a bit more for the last one
RIP to the cameraman's socks Of the three, i think i like the 2nd one the best. It's not sacrificing anything in the name of design or hypermodernity and both of its bedrooms are larger than the one i'm writing this in.
650000 yen for a studio is a good deal? Man, I used to live in a 3LDK penthouse in kikukawa, it had a room sized kitchen balcony where you could eat breakfast and overlook the peasants below, had 3 floors, 3 bedrooms, 2 toilets, and even had a private rooftop where I'd lift weights while looking at tokyo skytree; only cost about 240000 per month. Only catch was it was directly above a yakitori restaurant and a late night massage parlor wwww.
As beautiful as the first one is, it's still a studio with an exhibitionist's bathroom. The second just didn't really hit any buttons. The third has some nice features, but the kitchen feels claustrophobic and having lived in a place without an oven before, that's an issue. If I had to live in one, I'd take the third
What makes the bathroom in that studio weird was the fact that it was covered by curtains, not one of those fancy privacy glass things. Even if there was some kind of contract to limit the kinds of renovations to that unit, you'd think just changing the glass type was possible.
hahaha IDK I like at least 1 thing from them all but the last one was pretty cool to bad I cant afford to live in Japan 😭but I LOVE your videos thanks for the tour
Second and third seems like pretty good deals but I'm guessing those are for long lease periods? Let's say you were to come and work in Tokyo for 6-9 months and you wanted a place that is furnished and in a nice area, where would you start looking?
@@dlewis9760 Depends, if you have two upper level management people yeah sure. Keep in mind the wage of a Japanese person and not someone who lives in SF or something like that. If I use that reasoning two normal people here where I live pooling together all their net incoming for a month have like 6-7k. Well yeah sure, you can pay it than, but is that wise?
When prices reach 5k usd per month, throw away to never be seen again.. idk, feels more worth to just buy a house.. You didn't mention if they had parking, but with a house you usually get at least 1 spot for a car, which lets you live a bit off center. At least i wouldn't drop 60k usd a year into the pond that way. A house would at worst pay me back all that money in a couple of years. Specially if you can avoid loaning.. And if you can afford 5k apartment you can just grab a house instead.
@@dlewis9760 Yeah, i know there is a hype for cheap rural houses in japan.. but i'm still talking central tokyo here. I know about the decline in population and increase in abandoned houses etc. Unless house values go backwards in central tokyo i see no point in paying obscene rentals if you will be a longtime resident. But obviously there is a market for it in big cities. Ppl got nice income, but not enough liquidity/assets
If you're alone, it's cheaper to eat out, or order in. The kitchen is there for breakfast, maybe pasta cooking, heating up pizza etc. And if you're not alone, you wouldn't live there (typically).
@@balisaani fair insight, I actually HATE cooking but it's such a proper kitchen it seems silly not to. I guess it also does help that the closet totally separate from the kitchen so not like your clothes would absorb any smells.
OMG , that last one was one of the most amazing apartments i have ever seen o.o. No joke, i cant believe how there are not many gardens in this houses, it looks amazing, may be it is because i am from latin america and i am so much use to see green in houses :S
It makes me curious... how much would an offer to purchase the Nishiazabu unit go as a realistic purchasing price? Is it common for people who move into rental decide on a purchase out of love with the property, and property owners are open for that kind of offer in Japan?
It would be about ¥400m/$2.6m if it were for sale, but the whole building is rental-only. I've only heard of one example of a renter being able to buy the property they live in so don't expect that to be possible in most cases.
last one would be the only reasonable one for that price imo xD - i mean to be fair in big cities here (not really comparable with manhatten or tokio, for5k you prolly get something aroudn 100m² with a large balcony ... almsot like a panthouse ... but yeah not comparable with the biggest city in the world like a tenth of the polpulation is the biggest here xD
is this price for locals only? When my wife and I were renting apartments by 2-3 months, 5k didn't get us anywhere near this quality. We paid 4-5k for very small 2br with Ascott group of apartments.
These are for Japanese people and people with long term visas. The Ascott apartments are fully furnished rentals that charge way more than unfurnished long term rentals
i always want to know what people do to afford these places, aren't these rent #'s like 3x the average salary? is it similar to america where these apartments are just filled with people spending all their money on rent, barely scraping by or what
5k a month!? I bought a house 3 Times bigger and with a Garden and pay only 1k a month for paying the mortgage here in Germany. And i live in an expensive area...
None of these are even remotely interesting. The second apartment might at least have a decent sized counter in the kitchen. I personally wouldn't mind a glass wall, but not for a bedroom or bathroom.
This RUclips channel about cool crazy socks is good because it also feature some really nice Japanese properties.
he always has the most random strange socks lol
so true. My choice in Japanese properties is based on the socks he features.
That last apartment was really something, must be such a cool space to live in - just imagine waking up and having that view!
nice to see you back touring apartments
Even though the second apartment has a somewhat outdated vibe, I find it very appealing due to its layout, the size of the living space, and the view. I'd say, "I'll take it."

The second place would be perfect if the wall separating the kitchen and the bedroom hall were knocked down, and the bathroom were upgraded.
The 2nd one, $4400 Azabujuban, seems to be very practical and have a good view of the tower. Very spacious with lots of programmable space
I just realized that watching these walkthroughs of fancy apartments in Japan is the equivalent of my parents watching HG TV shows.
LMAO so true
The second place seems the most livable, but the third is the one I'd be most excited to live in.
Finally more apartment videos. Never knew how much I missed these.
Love it, more of these please, not the old boring prefab apartments, I love to see more of these uniquely designed apartments.
The third one was incredible. I loved the mix of indoor and outdoor space. I always found a full backyard so wasteful, but most patios rather small. This feels like the perfect middle ground. Babe wake up, a new Tokyo Portfolio video just dropped!!!
I'd love to know what you could get in the countryside like places like Gunma Prefecture. Hope you could do a video like that in the future.
yep that would be really nice
probably 150m" and a garden xD
The second apartment caught my attention most.
I don't know how I feel about bathroom with glass walls :|
It's for people who spend 15000/month on escort.
It's gonna make you real familiar with the squeegee.
Many hosts and hostess will love it!
@@diametheuslambda If you spend $5k on rent and $15k on escorts, you can afford a cleaner to do that for you.
the tokyo tower view in the 2nd apartment is literally to die for, my jaw dropped
Based on the title I was expecting a large tent pitched in a public park..
He changed it😂
I thought the second one was by far my favourite place...

The view from Azabujuban apartment is fantastic
I love all three, although there are points where I would be putting up towel hangars and shelving. I'm also terrified of microwave radiation.
The 3rd one was my favorite, that view
I wish there was a channel like yours for France, since that's where I'll be moving to in a few years.
I enjoyed #3 with all the outdoor space you got. Would probably have my bedroom up the stairs for even more privacy.
Here to see what fun socks he is wearing this time 😄🙌🏻

5:30 quality old man noise, I sound like that every time I get up too ;)
Apartment 2 and 3 were amazing. If I were looking a studio, apartment 1 would be great.
#3, would love to live there

i hope u upload the next video next time sooner) I like your videos despite I could not afford 5000 a month for a flat
I always enjoy your videos! They are always so informational and really interesting!
Definitely like the last one the most
Number 2 is absolute winner with that view.
Number 1's bathroom is just a little bit too "transparent" for my taste.
Excellent video, thank you!
Bathroom in #1, "Hey, how ya' doing?" "Doin' good!!! How's it shakein'?"
Out of those three I preferred the last one.
The fact that NYC avg rent in NYC is $4000-5000 is sad. NYC is shrinking while Tokyo keeps growing.

They're all nice, but I really could see myself in the 2nd one.
2nd is the best for useability. 3rd is a bachelor pad. 1st is just wasting money away. I think 2nd is the best for my taste.

The question is what else do you have to spend on fees etc.. when you rent an apartment in Tokyo?
yes new video
if i had the money id pack up and move to the 3rd apartment in a heartbeat.
hahaha IDK I like at least 1 thing from them all but the last one was pretty cool to bad I cant afford to live in Japan 😭but I LOVE your videos thanks for the tour
I will never like bare concrete walls. They are so depressing and cold.
The third place is cool the other two are kinda meh. But still 5k is insane :o
NYC is worse. Both are insane. But you aren't going to get rolled walking on the sidewalk by thugs.
I would love to see more Uniquely Japanese apartments.

Another idea, $5000 in middle class neighborhood, $5000 in cheap neighborhood.
any plans to make a video about ur house??
#3 is my favorite by far.
Gotta keep your sock game up in Japan 😂
the order from best to "worst" whould be 2, 3, 1. they are all nice houses sadly they cost mor per month than i get per month lol

If one buys and puts 20% down with a mortgage, what will a $3k per month payment get you?
