    Thank you very much for putting this together. You have helped me with making my choice!
    I by all means am not a tent enthusiast and you managed to capture my attention for the whole 25 minutes. I think you are talented and should keep on doing these reviews ;)

    Wow, so much work was put into the review, much appreciated. One brand I really like that doesn’t get much credit in my opinion is NTK, I have 3 of theirs for different areas etc and they’ve never let me down, they’re a more of a hotter tent unless you take out the rainfly/vestibule but I mostly camp in the Sierras and I can appreciate the warmth at night. The last one I got was the NTK Indy 6 person, very similar to the Kelty Rumpus, price point a bit cheaper, has done very well in wind and some rain, I love the huge vestibule specially when raining as it has a couple of transparent closed windows that allows not only natural light but some view when you’re stuck inside due to bad weather. Excellent review and thanks.

    This was such a great video. Thank you so much. I'm also watching how you quickly pitch tents by yourself. I had no idea about those quick pitch tents. I struggle trying to pitch mine alone. It has sleeves or whatever u said.

    The Coleman sundown tent you had the outside zipper pull dongle pulled through into the tent. 3 dongles? Only 2 zippers, therefore you didn’t have a true seal on the door.

    I actually commented about the Madrone before on your channel. I can't believe how waterproof it is. however you hit the nail on the head about the zipper. in very heavy rain it can drip. not a huge deal and I think seam sealing it yourself would help and is totally worth it for the quality/price of the tent. Also wind? survived 2 terrifying surprise thunderstorms in the madrone. it bends but stands up.

    Based on this review, I purchased both a Stoic Madrone 4 and Mountainsmith Bear Creek 4. We'll be using them next weekend.

    Good comments on these! I bought the Rustic Ridge 8 person Dome. Myself, my far better half, and the dog. I like the headroom and the spacious interior. The first thing I did was silicone all the exposed seams. That turned out to be a blessing as first night out was total downpour! Forethought for some drainage trenches helped out as well!
    Curious, what do you do with the extra tents now? My thoughts: homeless organizations! Take the tax deduction and it becomes a WIN:WIN

    Nice video! I checked out a few others and I subscribed. I found a tent for $100 and it is actually on sale right now for $60. I bought it for $80. It's sold at Dunham's Sports and is an Eagle's Camp Creekside 4- Person Dome Tent. I've used it I think about 14 times all to gather in all 4 seasons. The oddest thing about it is that it has no roof vent. But it seems so far that unless it's hot out and there is no breeze, there is no real issue with the design. I have had no condensation issues at all. I was a little concerned about the polls in the winter, but it held 3 inches of wet snow good enough. I can't remember right off hand, but I do think it was seam taped. I did spray it with a sealer before I used it, so I couldn't say how water proof it is right out of the bag. But I can say out of all the under $200 tents I've bought over the last 40+ years, this one has probably been the best out of them all. It's an 11x9 overall dome that includes a 4 foot vestibule. It says it's 68 at center but it's more like 66 or so. It's been perfect for my Ozark Trail cot and a big dog bed for my two 60 lb. dogs. I still have room for gear on the other side and a good amount of space between my cot and the door. Just thought that seems how you like really good deal camping gear, you might like to know about this tent as well.

    Trying to work out what the equivalent to Spinifex would be;.. we Australians have Coleman etc.

    How long does it take to get a this size tent back in the bag? I've seen a lot of mounting videos but rarely packing back into the bag. In my experience, extra "double size" bag is handy for beginners. I made experiment: 15 % larger (opening its top) bag was easy, when original (bag long zipper) was difficult. Mostly need take tent out at home to clean and dry it. Or start an mold farm.

    Does anyone know if you can easily seam tape or repair a seam tape? Well, easy for a newbie.

    • @littlecampfires
      @littlecampfires  Год назад +2

      You can seam seal, which is kind of like applying glue to the seam. That serves the same purpose. My understanding is that seam tape is factory applied, so I don’t think that would be an easy thing for somebody to do themselves.

    I'm a new backpacker and am at the process of accumulating my supplies. I do have a Hennesy hammock for when I want to do wooded camping. But I have this very light VERY cheap tent and I am considering reinforcing it with waterproofing, but if anyone has experience, is it just better to wait and get a more expensive tent than waterproofing my cheap tent? I should mention my sleeping bag isn't cheap and I'm going to invest in a good sleeping pad. I'm just more curious about peoples shelter opinions. Do you just spend more or do you tweak what you have? Thanks to anyone who may respond to this. I really want to make responsible decisions so my experience is fun.
