Great content as usual Mr Mono, i got a theory in why zimbabweans sometimes dont Identify themselves with zimbabwe music. I grow up in the 90s, and there were losts of foreign sounds, reggae, (something digital pakati ipapa), funky, house, digong, hip pop & r&b, for zim we had chimurenga, sungura aka museve, mbira, even my home sound chigiyo. The difference was museve for me was too serious ne life either song ndeye nhamo or kuraira (boring for me) i want to have fun with music, i want to simply groove. That why you find zimbabweans tine kamunyati kekuti song haidzidzisi chii chii, our mind when to comes to music is forged by museve zvekudzidzisa or nhamo etc personally i dont zvekudzidziswa eg if am going through a bad day or whatever i want something that takes my mind away. So you find that all this foreign sounds i mentioned tai spakwa nayo, mostly becoz of beats and story line dzisina zvenhamo etc. How can i listen to 11mins dzenhamo etc ? Now to the present time why dancehall or hip hop iri kurira its becoz of two things , yes the sound is not ours but story lines now relate with the streets zviri kuitika, you can now groove both the beat and the lyrics. I think the movement yasara is for the dancehall and hip hop artist to fuse more traditional instruments to come up with unique sounds and flow with same lyrics that vibes with streets or zviri kuitika. In the long run we will eventually have a new sound which is zimbabwean and from there it will create a sub genre and the rest would be history. In SA the late 80s & 90s we had beat from eg Lazarus Kagudi, tempo was slow, then 90s the Chico era the tempo went up, it got a new name, mind 90s we had Panstula, digong, etc you can trace each generation sub genre digong, house, amapiano etc. Yes i understand kuti vamwe they would relate nemuseve with its lyrics for me it was too much nhamo too much muma songs avo.

Thank you, but not all of Mseve was serious; there have always been various narratives in Mseve
And remember Mseve is not the only Zim genre, after all its not even ours, its Kenyan, our is Mbira,Jit and Mbube from Bulawayo.
The problem is our media promotes too much foreign music, which is why countries around the world enact laws that limit foreign music airplay

@ lets put our media promoting foreign sounds aside, lets look at our music videos are rubbish, most museve videos are more like earobics video dzema 90s 5 people in a straight line dancing. The dances acho few fellow the rythm ye beat. Jiti music and dance are good and great but we have been so brainwashed zvekuti, we longer like ma dances a Jiti becoz we see them as being sexual. Yes we now have good videos from few musicians, but the rest makwikwi chaiwo. Yes the media needs to change but also the same with artist eg having a video yekuti even when you dont understand what is being sang about, the visuals have done the job for you. Keep up the good work baba

@@phillthedrill Zimbawean music is not all museve,so we cant judge the whole music fratenity in Zimbabwe based on Mseve.

Yes @@phillthedrill,we do have our fare share of not so good videos, but remember,to do a good video takes a lotbof money which we dont have as Zimbos,a $500 video will never compare to a $50 000 video
