We moved here from Florida 8 months ago after 30 years there. Dogs don't generally live outside in Florida. Too many bugs and parasites and it's just too darn hot. The sun doesn't set all that late in Florida in winter. I've not yet seen a "downpour" here. I've done hurrycanes. I do know about the earthquake and volcanoes, never experienced one. I agree, you need AC here. Taxes are a wash. We love it here! Much of Florida is the great American suburban subculture with the addition of the modern manufactured cities like The Villages and countless gated snobatoriums. Collectively it's soulless. Salem and much of the surrounding small towns have a far better vibe than Florida and I believe the area can overcome it's shortcomings eventually. Don't get me wrong, I don't regret moving to Florida. I learned a trade and earned a pension and the ability to live where I wanted. The PNW has always fascinated me so we packed up and gave it a try. I think we're gonna stay! Cheers!

How did your first winter here go? Was the early setting sun strange?
@@SalemOR It went fine. We're originally from SE Pennsylvania and the winters there are just a bit colder with more drastic low temps and freezing conditions, so relatively speaking, Salem is much more mild. The ice storm was the worst we had, and that wasn't a big deal. We just stayed home!
Yeah our ice storms are bonkers. I'm with you though, a few days cozied up with my husband and doggo...not so bad! What do you miss most about SE Pennsylvania?
