Michael Westen f86 fought the MIG 15 not 17
They never were opponents. Mig 17 fought in Vietnam. Mig 15 in Korea. Sabre and Mig 15 were more or less equal fighters. Mig 17 was superior to Sabre.

The Sabre will always have a special place in my heart though.
When the wall came down the former Soviets sent some of their pilots to our Officer Squadron School. Those guys easily mixed with us Air Force Pilots and the talk was always about aviation and our respective aircraft. Our passion for flying overrode any differences and in fact, we all thought it was silly our governments pitted us against one another. I became good friends with a MiG-21 driver who also was an instructor pilot on the MiG-17. I had told him about all the MiG-21's and 17 models I had built as a kid and how badly I wanted to fly those birds. He dearly loved both planes but really liked the MiG-17. Someday I hope to strap into that beautiful airplane and have a ball.
My dream is to see a mig 17 and a A1 Skyraider in the next airshow in Maputo. This year I finnaly saw the P51 Mustang here. Cant describe, I just liked it a lot!

Родился в городке летчиков, 1959 г.р.Село Кокшаровка Приморского края; под селом был полевой аэродром. Взлётная полоса из стальных плит с отверстиями. Складывались как пазлы. Над нами всегда летали истребители. Это были МИГ-21, с хлопком при переходе на скоростной режим. Лётчики были хулиганами. Эта национальная черта русских лётчиков.Ему, наверное утром жена не дала. Наши жёны строгие. И мы им подчиняемся, как матери. И вот этот хулиган сделал атаку на стадо коров, на лужайке. В пике.. Коровы в россыпную, в ужасе, хорошо ноги не переломали, но молоко потеряли на время.. Председатель приехал жаловаться на лётчика командиру полка. Он вызвал лётчика, отлупил при председателе. Тычков надавал. А ничего не скажешь. Командир полка это папа.Смеялся весь район. Бойтесь русских лётчиков.
