I completely agree with the physicist there.
After a new invention or discovery we just lose interest in it.
It's then left to others like engineers to commercialise it.
Viewing with a different perspective, no commercialisation would happen had the physicists not stepped in. So that's the answer.

yup you’re dumb. I’m an engineering student, so partially biased. think of it like related rates in differential equations. both influence one another, although one may influence the other more heavily. engineering pushes the bounds of discoveries made in science. think of p type and n type transistors in semiconductors. it’s a feedback loop with engineering demanding more scientific breakthroughs, and we apply what scientists figure out at scale.

As an engineer, Physicist always wins. Almost every time it is the engineers and engineering that follows the Physicists and the Physics. There are only a few exceptions where the roles were reversed. Physics is the heart and mind of engineering, without Physics, there is no engineering, except the low level stuff that can be done by trail and error. And yeah, Galelio was a Physicist and NOT an engineer. Infact, several of the engineers were Physicists. Physics also cultivates mathematics. Also, Physics has not stagnated, it has made several tremendous advances and several theories have been formed, the Physicists are just waiting for the engineers to catch up. Also, a bigger collider can be built to test some more things, ofcourse none of that will be even close to the Higgs Boson in terms of importance and impact, but still very significant, the only problem is convincing politicians to fund the project. Also, there are many areas of physics apart from particle physics which are still going at their pace.

What's more there is no reason you can't pursue either (or at least from a professional standpoint). Science owes more to steam engine than what steam engine owes to science.
What came first scientist or engineers?
Engineers, men who invented fire or wheel were damn great engineers, physicist are just philosophers building castles in air! Their work is often useless since it has nothing to do with utility.
What is science? Attempt to predict laws underlying some phenomenon, usefulness is not a criteria here but Novelty is.
What is Engineering? Creating something badass that is gonna change the way we live, to design cost effective, safe and profitable artifacts is engineering, it owes nothing more to science than it owes to language. Engineering is intuition for how things work, it's passion for invention of crazy stuff. Physics owes to engineering much more than anything else.

@@matterasmachine but the engine word says about fundamental laws of physics. And an engineer never can work on anything like this he just apply the fundamentalism of physics. And finally it's about who is first it's always a scientists, they give the direction to engineers to work on the subjective.

@@yashJoshi-hn6bf Get your facts right, the transistor was literally invented by an engineer together with a physicist, but guess what? It was the engineers who revolutionized it where they could fit literally billions of transistor in a thumb-sized chip. Also, it's the engineers who actually design technological systems
