Although I have been listening to Nightwish for over 15 years I watch at least one of their concerts every Saturday night I have noticed Floor`s stage presence has greatly improved over the years as one would think. She always a great vocalist but now she is the best in the world!!

You don't need to worry about the sense of the lyrics, Tuomas himself once told in an interview that he creates the lyrics in a way that everyone can adjust them to their own experiences. And yes, it was not the first concert for Floor, but it was the introduction to the huge festival stages in europe. On their US tour they mostly played much smaller venues. AND imagine, Wacken is mostly sold out for the next year shortly after the previous one ended (last year they sold 85000 trickets although they had that wheather debacle within 4 days!), so all the people bought a ticket expecting Anette as singer. No, it wasn’t Floor’s first show with Nightwish. In fact, Floor had joined the band ten months earlier, in october 2012 when Anette left the band in the middle of the tour. Floor’s only job at the time was to help the band finish the tour. The Wacken concert was in august 2013 and it was one of the last shows of the tour. To introduce Floor to the audience, Marko had been speaking the same words in every show. Since Wacken was by far the biggest show of the tour, being recorded on dvd, this was Floor’s introduction to the world. Btw in this show Floor was already asked by the band to become a permanent band member.

The recordings were supposed to be just a demo tape to get signed by a label, which is why I think he was singing on those tracks. Label decided to release the demo tape as the actual album! Tuomas has a decent vocie but on subsequent albums they used guest male singers, most notably Tapio Wilska on Oceanborn, until Marko joined the band in 2001. He first sings on the Century Child album. Troy Donockly was a guest musician starting with Dark Passion Play and added backing vocals starting with Imaginaerum (The Crow, The Owl, and The Dove and Song of Myself). Troy became a permanent member of the band at the same time as Floor and contributed backing vocals on number of tracks for Endless Forms Most Beautiful including a lead part on My Walden. The wrong speed comes from some countries desperately wanting to have their own standards. In this case the frame rate of the DVD did not exactly match the frame rate of the equipment to convert the video, resulting in a slow down. There had only been a handful of festivals and rescheduled concerts in Europe before Wacken. So for many of the European fans Floor was new, but she was no longer new to the band. And "the song means what the song means to you" (Tuomas' words) , but if you're trying to figure out what the original writer meant, the last place you must look are those sites that know it all...based on one persons guesstimate...

Love this performance and how Floor just jumped into the earlier style music so smoothly. While she was brought in the middle of a tour, she got the hang of it really quickly and Wacken was pretty much her first big festival with the band. In the documentary "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours" there was a mention of how the band couldn't play some of the songs since Anette had trouble with them, but with Floor that is no longer an issue.
It was her first concert on Wacken Open Air. So that's why he sad a new presence.... They did a world tour with Floor, after Annette did leave in the US part.

Floor had her first ever appearance with Nightwish on October 1st 2012. This show (Wacken Open Air) was the first BIG appearance for the European audience since she joined Nightwish. She did some smaller venues in Europe before Wacken: - November 4th 2012 in Manchester, England - November 5th 2012 in London, England - November 6th 2012 in Birmingham, England - November 7th 2012 in Glasgow, Scotland - November 10th 2012 in Helsinki, Finland These where all smaller indoor venues (except for Helsinki which was in Hartwall Arena - Ice stadium), but this (Wacken) was her GREATEST show in Europe - and what an impression she made.
This was one of the earliest large concerts in Europe for Floor after ten months touring USA, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Lebanon,and small European venues. So she deserved to be introduced to the many Nightwish fans. Especially as she was singing songs beyond Anette's ability so reintroduced.
Floor is crashing in the middle of my heart every time. She gives you the feeling to sing for you not to show how great she is. her gestures - great, and her smiling - i am done.

Yes she finished out the tour with Nightwish when Annette so some fans kbew about her BUT this was still the first worldwide showcase, a show of this scale, that featured her. Introductions were definitely in order to anyone who wasn't familiar with ReVamp or After Forever.
As others said correctly, she joined in October with 2012 to complete the tour with them. There were some bigger concerts, at least the one in Finland which they played in a stadium, so it's not exactly her first big introduction. I think Marco introduced her as "the new face" on every concert of that tour because probably quite a few of those going to the concerts did NOT know what was going on. Sure, most did, but not everyone going to concerts reads music news. And from what I read they offered her and troy to become fixes members of the band right after the concert.

Hey Lanae's, Nice Review again Thank you, And yes you keep on learning all about Nightwish Band, and Floor Jansen, from the people who really Know, from Their True Fans, The Nightwish Army. and a quick PS, Go and check out Floor Jansen, in her first Band (After Forever) which she was in for 12 years, In particular, a song called (Dreamflight), live at prog power in the USA 2007, you will see just how much confidence, Floor had even then, and also some of Floors own band who were called (Revamp), Why I am telling this, The reason is, Floor Jansen has always been Just and Amazing Stage Presence on stage, and not like someone said, it took her no time at all to fit into Nightwish Band, go and watch the documentary Please learn the the set list in 48 hours, I have seen all the above mentioned bands live, Nightwish many times, After For Ever 3 times, and Revamp 2 times,.
I mentioned in the last video about the dvd/bluray speeds being different and 'correct speed' versions of songs on RUclips. I believe the speed issues are derived from the DVD and Bluray release having 2 separate frame rates when being produced, it's not the uploader's fault. I hear Tuomas was less than impressed at the audio problems which eventuated. It was something to do with 25 frames per second versus 29/30 frames per second which ended up slowing down the music speed, the slower speed can be noticed on the Bluray release - but it has a great 1080p image which the DVD release doesn't have. Anyway, people have since uploaded a corrected version of the 1080p concert. I recommend using Nightwish Arena channel on RUclips, it's a great Nightwish resource for videos. Also, yes Marko said "Wacken open air" with a W sound, instead of a V sound. He also said "we're gonna play something out of the Waults", instead of 'Vaults'. I guess being able to speak multiple languages can cause occasional annunciation problems sometimes.

This was Floor's first time performing before a crowd of that size. There is older videos of her with her previous band After Forever performing at Wacken, but during the daylight when the crowds are typically not nearly as large. She admitted to being very nervous before this performance.

It is just characteristics of those European and Scandinavian countries in their pronunciation of English,remembering that English is not their first language. Marko is a Finn so he pronounced Wacken typical Finnish way. Finns pronounce lot of stuff very differently than others and we are also often quite lazy about these things😅
I remember Tarja singing about "willages" (bless her, she did great in that performance though) in "Walking in the air" too, so definitely a Finnish thing.

FLOOR :D Please check out Planet Hell from Hellfest 2022 (it's a duet song that only Floor sings because Marco is no longer with the band at that time), but only after you get familiar with the version with Floor & Marco, so you can fully appreciate how Floor interprets Marco's part. I think Floor is a genius, and you can obviously see she masters music theatre. Floor is so amazing to hear/watch because she doesn't just sing, she also portraits the character in the song, she plays a part, a role, she shows so much emotion, charisma, feelings, interpretation, it's like watching a theatre play. I love Marco, Nightwish is not going to be the same without him, but MY GOD Floor can step up into his shoes... I honestly don't know if there is anything this woman can't do... You are blesses Floor, thank you from deep within our hearts for amazing us with you talent!!!

The issue about Floor being new to the band is that this is around the time she was confirmed a member of the band, rather than a temporary hire to fulfil their tour schedule. This was not officially announced until October of that year; Wacken was in August.
Hi Lanae. You will notice if you listen closely, that Marko not only says "Wacken Open Air" with a W, but he also pronounces "Something out of the vaults" as "waults". It is just Marko's pronunciation. It seems to only be when V is the first letter of a word, e.g. I've heard him sing "Violin" as "Wiolin" (in "While Your Lips Are Still Red", live at Wembley), but he doesn't seem to have an issue with 'Elven' in "Elven Path". Just one of those things.
The ‘w’ sound doesn’t exist in most languages, so people tend to hyper-correct and turn a ’v’ into a ‘w’ sometimes. Finnish, Spanish, Greek, Dutch and Icelandic don’t have the ‘sh’ sound, so the native speakers of these languages might not differentiate ‘s’ and ‘sh’. Spanish speakers also have a hard time differentiating ‘b’ and ‘v’. Ze Germans, ze French and ze speakers of ze Slavic languages are notorious for turning the 'th' into a 'z'.😂
The speed issus is not because someone intentionally slowed the songs down. It's because of a framerate difference between NTCS and PAL formats between US and Europe, which are used notably in DVDs. NTSC (US) runs at roughly 30 frames per second. PAL (Europe) runs at 25 Frames per second. The US "Showtime, Storytime" Blue-Ray disc this show was released on had an issue where the framerate was wrong which means that the playback ran slower than it should. The DVD version was fine. As a result, videos extracted from the DVD version have the correct speed, while the videos extracted from the Blue-Ray version are too slow (unless corrected by other means afterwards).
There a a lot of rumors out there conjecturing a relationship between Tuomas & Tarja. Only Tuomas knows for sure. Marko is/was a big part of Nightwish. Unfortunately he has decided to move on to other musical pursuits. We all miss him. Some of these older song may not be performed live in the future show. Troy now does much of the harmony vocal parts. Don't sweat the hard cores. Tuomas writes these lyric in a very poetic style so that each fan can find meaning on a personal level. When you learn more about how Tuomas thinks it will help you to understand what the lyrics and metaphorical concepts represent to him. Your interpretation has validity to you. That is what really matters. Great poetry is something personal to each of us.

Utter rubbish - Floor was extremely well known throughout Europe, especially on the festival scene. She had toured for years with both After Forever and ReVamp - including supporting Nightwish.
Nice that your doing some of the less reacted to songs from Wacken. The decades live concert from Buenos Aries has a ton of great performances also. then again it's hard to find a marginal, let alone bad, live Nightwish performance.
Of course Nightwish is Nightwish without Marco. Its sad and I wish he were still with them but he is gone and Nightwish goes on, with Matcos parts split between Floir and Troy. One day perhaps Jukka will start singing eventually (he can, after all). Nightwish is Tuomas and could survive most changes, though he has said if Floor leaves that will be the end. I can't imagine Emppu would be easy to replace either.

Ignore comments criticising you for taking away a different meaning than what may have inspired Tuomas (usually) when the song was written. Although it is interesting to see how that inspiration was translated into the finished product, the lyrics are indeed poetic and intended to allow listeners to have their own interpretation. So, what does this song mean _to you_, based on who you are and your life experiences. That is what is important, IMHO.
I have a distinct impression with Tuomas that his comments regarding the meaning of the lyrics are not generally all that honest - personally i think his songs dealt with issues that were far too personal and potentially destructive for the band to just come right out and say it. In other words, i think your interpretations are as valid as anything else and possibly even closer to the truth - but thats just my gut feeling 🤔
Wachen 2013, was the first major European concert since Floor joined 10 months earlier to finish their existing tour through North America and on. . Check out the "Learn the Set List in 48 Hours" video. It will answer alot of the questions about Annette being replaced and Floor coming on to finish the tour. In one of the videos Floor talks about walking out on stage at Wachen with 82,000 people in front of her. She said she was scared to death until she got through the first couple songs. During the pandemic shut down, every Friday Floor would do a 5 minute YT video of what she was doing or had been doing that week. They were so much fun. You might be able to find them on YT. She sang, wrote lyrics, toured the farm and house. It was a way to connect when there wasn't any connection. Check it out

Floor had her first ever appearance with Nightwish on October 1st 2012. This show (Wacken Open Air) was the first BIG appearance for the European audience since she joined Nightwish. She did some smaller venues in Europe before Wacken:
- November 4th 2012 in Manchester, England
- November 5th 2012 in London, England
- November 6th 2012 in Birmingham, England
- November 7th 2012 in Glasgow, Scotland
- November 10th 2012 in Helsinki, Finland
These where all smaller indoor venues (except for Helsinki which was in Hartwall Arena - Ice stadium), but this (Wacken) was her GREATEST show in Europe - and what an impression she made.

This was one of the earliest large concerts in Europe for Floor after ten months touring USA, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Lebanon,and small European venues. So she deserved to be introduced to the many Nightwish fans. Especially as she was singing songs beyond Anette's ability so reintroduced.
Floor is crashing in the middle of my heart every time. She gives you the feeling to sing for you not to show how great she is. her gestures - great, and her smiling - i am done.

Yes she finished out the tour with Nightwish when Annette so some fans kbew about her BUT this was still the first worldwide showcase, a show of this scale, that featured her.
Introductions were definitely in order to anyone who wasn't familiar with ReVamp or After Forever.
As others said correctly, she joined in October with 2012 to complete the tour with them. There were some bigger concerts, at least the one in Finland which they played in a stadium, so it's not exactly her first big introduction.
I think Marco introduced her as "the new face" on every concert of that tour because probably quite a few of those going to the concerts did NOT know what was going on. Sure, most did, but not everyone going to concerts reads music news. And from what I read they offered her and troy to become fixes members of the band right after the concert.

Hey Lanae's, Nice Review again Thank you, And yes you keep on learning all about Nightwish Band, and Floor Jansen, from the people who really Know, from Their True Fans, The Nightwish Army. and a quick PS, Go and check out Floor Jansen, in her first Band (After Forever) which she was in for 12 years, In particular, a song called (Dreamflight), live at prog power in the USA 2007, you will see just how much confidence, Floor had even then, and also some of Floors own band who were called (Revamp), Why I am telling this, The reason is, Floor Jansen has always been Just and Amazing Stage Presence on stage, and not like someone said, it took her no time at all to fit into Nightwish Band, go and watch the documentary Please learn the the set list in 48 hours, I have seen all the above mentioned bands live, Nightwish many times, After For Ever 3 times, and Revamp 2 times,.

The second single from Nightwish's new album comes out tomorrow 08.08, the music video will premiere at a metal festival this friday, 09.08.
I mentioned in the last video about the dvd/bluray speeds being different and 'correct speed' versions of songs on RUclips. I believe the speed issues are derived from the DVD and Bluray release having 2 separate frame rates when being produced, it's not the uploader's fault. I hear Tuomas was less than impressed at the audio problems which eventuated. It was something to do with 25 frames per second versus 29/30 frames per second which ended up slowing down the music speed, the slower speed can be noticed on the Bluray release - but it has a great 1080p image which the DVD release doesn't have. Anyway, people have since uploaded a corrected version of the 1080p concert.
I recommend using Nightwish Arena channel on RUclips, it's a great Nightwish resource for videos.
Also, yes Marko said "Wacken open air" with a W sound, instead of a V sound. He also said "we're gonna play something out of the Waults", instead of 'Vaults'. I guess being able to speak multiple languages can cause occasional annunciation problems sometimes.

Since Marko left Troy does the male singing, good but hasn't got Markos rock rasp, I imagine the upcoming album will be written for Floor/Troy instead of Marko.

He isn't doing any of the singing Tuomas is happy without him singing and Jukka himself has said he doesn't want to sing I know he's done a bit with winter sun but not with Nightwish 🇬🇧

2:19 Actually, Marco has said that (with some variations) at all concerts with Floor during that tour since the very first show.
This was Floor's first time performing before a crowd of that size. There is older videos of her with her previous band After Forever performing at Wacken, but during the daylight when the crowds are typically not nearly as large. She admitted to being very nervous before this performance.

Marko is a Finn so he pronounced Wacken typical Finnish way. Finns pronounce lot of stuff very differently than others and we are also often quite lazy about these things😅

FLOOR :D Please check out Planet Hell from Hellfest 2022 (it's a duet song that only Floor sings because Marco is no longer with the band at that time), but only after you get familiar with the version with Floor & Marco, so you can fully appreciate how Floor interprets Marco's part. I think Floor is a genius, and you can obviously see she masters music theatre. Floor is so amazing to hear/watch because she doesn't just sing, she also portraits the character in the song, she plays a part, a role, she shows so much emotion, charisma, feelings, interpretation, it's like watching a theatre play. I love Marco, Nightwish is not going to be the same without him, but MY GOD Floor can step up into his shoes... I honestly don't know if there is anything this woman can't do... You are blesses Floor, thank you from deep within our hearts for amazing us with you talent!!!

If you want to know more about the events leading to Floor joining the band: a documentary was made about it, called "Please Learn The Setlist In 48 Hours". A must see for the real Nightwish fan.
The issue about Floor being new to the band is that this is around the time she was confirmed a member of the band, rather than a temporary hire to fulfil their tour schedule. This was not officially announced until October of that year; Wacken was in August.

Hi Lanae. You will notice if you listen closely, that Marko not only says "Wacken Open Air" with a W, but he also pronounces "Something out of the vaults" as "waults". It is just Marko's pronunciation. It seems to only be when V is the first letter of a word, e.g. I've heard him sing "Violin" as "Wiolin" (in "While Your Lips Are Still Red", live at Wembley), but he doesn't seem to have an issue with 'Elven' in "Elven Path". Just one of those things.

The ‘w’ sound doesn’t exist in most languages, so people tend to hyper-correct and turn a ’v’ into a ‘w’ sometimes. Finnish, Spanish, Greek, Dutch and Icelandic don’t have the ‘sh’ sound, so the native speakers of these languages might not differentiate ‘s’ and ‘sh’. Spanish speakers also have a hard time differentiating ‘b’ and ‘v’. Ze Germans, ze French and ze speakers of ze Slavic languages are notorious for turning the 'th' into a 'z'.😂

The speed issus is not because someone intentionally slowed the songs down. It's because of a framerate difference between NTCS and PAL formats between US and Europe, which are used notably in DVDs.
NTSC (US) runs at roughly 30 frames per second. PAL (Europe) runs at 25 Frames per second. The US "Showtime, Storytime" Blue-Ray disc this show was released on had an issue where the framerate was wrong which means that the playback ran slower than it should. The DVD version was fine.
As a result, videos extracted from the DVD version have the correct speed, while the videos extracted from the Blue-Ray version are too slow (unless corrected by other means afterwards).
There a a lot of rumors out there conjecturing a relationship between Tuomas & Tarja. Only Tuomas knows for sure. Marko is/was a big part of Nightwish. Unfortunately he has decided to move on to other musical pursuits. We all miss him. Some of these older song may not be performed live in the future show. Troy now does much of the harmony vocal parts.
Don't sweat the hard cores. Tuomas writes these lyric in a very poetic style so that each fan can find meaning on a personal level. When you learn more about how Tuomas thinks it will help you to understand what the lyrics and metaphorical concepts represent to him. Your interpretation has validity to you. That is what really matters. Great poetry is something personal to each of us.

yeah, I agree with you about Marco, it's a tragedy, I still miss him, every time I hear one of their old songs I keep waiting for Marco's part but it ain't there. Utter rubbish - Floor was extremely well known throughout Europe, especially on the festival scene. She had toured for years with both After Forever and ReVamp - including supporting Nightwish.

Ignore comments criticising you for taking away a different meaning than what may have inspired Tuomas (usually) when the song was written. Although it is interesting to see how that inspiration was translated into the finished product, the lyrics are indeed poetic and intended to allow listeners to have their own interpretation. So, what does this song mean _to you_, based on who you are and your life experiences. That is what is important, IMHO.
I have a distinct impression with Tuomas that his comments regarding the meaning of the lyrics are not generally all that honest - personally i think his songs dealt with issues that were far too personal and potentially destructive for the band to just come right out and say it. In other words, i think your interpretations are as valid as anything else and possibly even closer to the truth - but thats just my gut feeling 🤔

Wachen 2013, was the first major European concert since Floor joined 10 months earlier to finish their existing tour through North America and on. . Check out the "Learn the Set List in 48 Hours" video. It will answer alot of the questions about Annette being replaced and Floor coming on to finish the tour. In one of the videos Floor talks about walking out on stage at Wachen with 82,000 people in front of her. She said she was scared to death until she got through the first couple songs. During the pandemic shut down, every Friday Floor would do a 5 minute YT video of what she was doing or had been doing that week. They were so much fun. You might be able to find them on YT. She sang, wrote lyrics, toured the farm and house. It was a way to connect when there wasn't any connection. Check it out
