I recently took a try on this and I loved it my go to for a daily pour if I could find it as I live in a control state. If this or Buffalo Trace was in front of me ill grab Bowman everytime. I think I've gone through 3 bottles now.
Long fingers: Do you play the piano? But to the point. I have received a bottle of Small Batch for Christmas and, tonight, will look for the complexity you report. Thank you.
I'm going to try this soon as well as the port finish. And my friend who's traveling through Virginia got me a bottle of John J Bowman Single Barrel which I'll try when he gets home.
@@ericellis2729 There are various opinions on the internet as to what Buffalo Trace mash bill is used to make Bowman. A lot of it is probably repeating what someone else said - who was repeating what someone else said. My addition to this is I saw a comment (on an online forum called StraightBourbon) from a guy who said that the Bowman Master Distiller, Brian Prewitt, personally told told him *a couple times* that mash bill #1 is what's used.
@@ericellis2729 its not......... What mash bill is Bowman Brothers small batch? That means they are likely using the famous “mash bill #1” - high corn and an ~10% Rye. It's triple-distilled, aged in new #3-char barrels for six to seven years, and bottled at a robust 45% ABV - yielding a deep maple color and plenty of unique character.
rhayes, A few years back (in 2020) I did blind comparisons of the Bowman Small Batch to the standard Buffalo Trace. I did four blinds on separate days over a 10-day period. Buffalo Trace won three out of the four blinds. After the fourth blind, I wrote in my tasting notes, "Very hard to even tell them apart."
After hearing about this distillery I finally just saw 2 bottles of this at my local place today and picked up 1. Now my phone must've heard me cuz this video popped up in my recommendations lol. One question I've always wondered on these "blinds", you really can't see the bottles in the camera?! Anyway, keep up the good stuff Dara (& Bill) 💪🥃
Haha nice! Hope you love it! And nope, I can’t see them. The screen is flipped away from me and def can’t see in the lens. Bill always covers up the box until I get seated. It’s fun!
My first Bowman was the Port Finished, and I definitely did not enjoy it. There was this sour funk to the palate. Looking to try the Bowman SiB, but hasn't seen it.

With all the talk about the John J Bowman Single Barrel, I’m glad to see the small batch getting a little love.
Got this today. Super sweet. Really good for $35.00.
Enjoy it!

Nope! But that is awesome! Enjoy!
Basically Buffalo trace aged in Virginia.
Specifically BT mash bill 1 & 2, sent to Fredericksburg for a 3rd distillation to make it a VA bourbon and then aged.
Can't ever go wrong with any of the Bowman offerings.

Found a small batch store pick today for $35. Can't wait to crack it open.
Bowman is a Buffalo Trace distillate that is aged in Virginia
I think I've read that it's also distilled another time in Virginia so it can be called a Virigina bourbon. I love the stuff!
It’s mash bill 1 & 2 sent to Fredericksburg VA for a third distillation to officially make it a VA bourbon and then aged.
@@e36325is Thanks! I had no idea it was both mashbills!

Great review. Like the Single Barrel more then the small batch. Cheers.
Thanks for the review!
Haven’t had this one, the John J Bowman is worth the hunt IMO.
Just saw this at my local store. Picked it up, set it back down. They had 6 of them so I’ll be back for one.
I’m hunting the John J Bowman single barrel.
How does it compare to Buffalo Trace? Thanks!
Just went to the distillery today! It’s it’s own thing. It doen’t taste like a buffalo trace product. Kinda oaky like she says. My wife loves it.
