    I work hard building relationships at my local store and have built some true friendships. We often discuss what's going on with our families and really just converse as if we're old friends catching up. Last week I brought pizza in at lunch for the entire staff to show my appreciation for what they do for me and as a Christmas gesture. They were totally floored. Who know if it will pay off with allocations, but I honestly don't even care as we have become so close.

      That’s what it’s all about. When you get to that point with the local store, leaving with an allocated item from time to time is just icing on the cake, because the real score are the friendships you’ve made.

    I got into bourbons about 7 months ago and Bowman Brothers is the first bourbon that I ever bought. I watched several videos and a lot were saying to buy local to support them so they were the only local one that I knew of. Anyways I tried it and it had some heat to it, at least to me it did, and I put it back and bought some others and tried several. After setting for about 5 months I tried it again and it was totally different taste to me. Don’t know if it was because it was the neck pour or I’m just getting use to bourbons now but it is pretty good now. Great video and thanks.

      Likely a little from Column A and a little from Column B but so glad to hear you’re enjoying it! It’s a solid bottle for the money. Thanks for watching!

    My store came up with a different idea for selling some of their allocated bourbon - scavenger hunts. Over the course of a week, they hide one bottle daily somewhere on the floor and whoever finds it first can buy it at retail or pretty close.

    Best thing about living in a state with state run liquor store is they must sell products at retail. So like blantons is 59 dollars.

    Too many people just go store to store looking for allocations. Its a great way to get stores to write you off as someone they dont want to sell to.

    I stop at the same store after my bowling league each Friday night and had never thought about it until the manager remembered me one night. I asked how and he pointed to my team shirt (which is very distinctive lol). My two favorites are E. H. Taylor and Belle Meade. Obviously the EHT is harder to come by so I usually get the BM but he always let's me know if they have any EHT and always offers samples of other things they have gotten in. He's hooked me up with a couple of great pours I might have otherwise overlooked

    Crazy allocated Monday morning, yesterday. Dude in the local OKC bourbon group posted some bottles, one of which was an Elijah Craig C920, which I missed, and you know the rep on that one…gotta admit, was willing to go $20 over MSRP on that gone bottle, so that’s one way. On the way back from a local parking lot meetup, stopped at my local store (whose owner hubby and I talk nerdy sci-fi and bourbon, and owner wife and I talk St. Vincent and the May Haim concert I’m going to and the like) to finally grab a bottle of Seagrass (between Erin and Jason from Mash and Drum, I just had to)…as we were chatting, with the Seagrass and a couple of craft beer singles in my hand, she offers me…Stagg Jr. Batch 17, which had been on my mind from several reviews…yours included. What a morning!

      …bonus props to y’all…as I am in an Old Fashioned and occasional Revolver or bourbon or rye highball rut, I snagged new bottles of Campari and vermouth earlier today…wonder what I am gonna do with those? Also, I think the last time Ted Lasso came up, y’all were pre-Apple TV…Yay on Ted Lasso! If you are at all-sci-fi/history interested, the alt-space race show, For All Mankind is outstanding! War movies?…the Tom Hanks destroyer flick, Greyhound is, well, it’s Hanks…

    8:53 Having a relationship with the people at Kelly Liquors here in Albuquerque is how I got my bottle of Eagle Rare. They'd hidden it in the wine, and because I treat 'em like people (instead of just popping in and out) the clerk offered it to me. And it's not that I've cynically built a relationship in order to get such opportunities. I just treat the people like people. 🙂
    12:38 I don't deliberately make myself memorable, but there aren't many - if any - around here who dress like I do. I've been wearing western clothes for decades because that's how I'm comfortable, and I can't think when I saw someone else dressed that way. 🙂

    I always try and strike up a conversation with staff or the owner if I'm a new customer. If talking to the owner, I usually bring up distilleries they don't know about or don't carry. Offering to bring in a sample of something they've never tried can be a good 'memorable customer' moment.

    I buy Eagle Rare online (only when I can get shipping free) and happily "overpay" for it. To me it's worth every dollar because personally I think it's severely under priced at retail and I've never seen it on a shelf. Plus I don't feel like putting in all the work of building a relationship with a store owner lol.

    • @LeatherDaddy97
      @LeatherDaddy97 2 года назад +1

      I think the price is right on it personally. Its a decent whiskey but theres multiple bottles that are better around its price range.

      Shipping is how I get New Riff and Smoke Wagon in Oklahoma, the extra maybe $6-10 of shipping costs per bottle if I get 2-3 bottles is well worth it, as they tend towards MSRP.

    To those who wonder why all stores just don’t sell their allocation when they get it comes down to 3 simple reasons: 1. There are usually certain customers at big box stores that spend anywhere from 30,000-80,000 a year a lot of times these customers have lockers and pay their tab at the end of the month so any time they get a allocation they put it in the high profile customers locker and call them. 2. They are saving enough of their “goodies” to do a lottery drop were they will guarantee a good amount of profit just from tickets alone. 3. They do have it and it’s on their shelf but it’s 500 dollars more than retail price lol. Otherwise stores get fun and interesting with their allocations or they just don’t get them. From what I heard in order to get any sazerac item you have to sell a bunch of pure alcoholic shit that taste like fart in order to qualify for some cases of sazerac products so a lot of stores don’t even try for the hype and just chase quality from smaller distilleries.

    Just discovered your channel! Just FYI, in this video, you meant to say that you were "rating" it, not "ranking" it. Ranking is for comparing and contrasting items. Rating is for providing a discrete value from a finite set of options.
