Good video, thanks. I got my Vito W639 EGR out by removing the wipers, wide plastic shield at the bottom of the windscreen, wiper linkage and motor (six 13mm bolts) and the metal water tray. I then used a slide hammer with a hook end to gently tap the EGR up and out. There's one area on the right hand side of the EGR where you can get something under the flange to pull upwards. What I need now is a way of testing the EGR solenoid. My Vito has done over 350k miles so it's quite possible the solenoid has failed. On mine it doesn't have the little area where yours "clicks" a bit. The whole travel is smooth
Vielen Dank! I should have watched this BEFORE my fight! Hex-key-removal is clever. My solution was to first rotate it by tapping it to expose the bolt holes. Then made a poor-man's sliding hammer out of M6 thread bar....came out nicely. But I never had the courage to openthe plastic cover. I'll do it again! Kiitos!
Thank you ...also have had issues with going into limp mode when going up a hill and engine Labour's..will clean up and see if it makes a Difference...also loss of power at lower revs...
Thanks for this video, very useful I want to also take out my egr valve and clean it up for a 2004 w639 111 Vito. Did you use any special solvent to clean it? Did it resolve your issues? Best regards
I used baking oven cleaner to remove the suds. It worked fine until we sold the car. But that was only a few thousand km after I cleaned it. My gues is that the EGR will get stuck sooner again. The valve rod and its guide wear and allow suds to block the valve again. I would suggest to exchange it, if you plan to keep the Vito for longer.
This method for removal worked a treat for me, thank you. Half an hour got the old egr out and new one fitted

Why don't you just plug it in an see if it moves. If need be you could have a GoPro video it while driving. It may be a bit noisy but...
Vielen Dank!

Thank you very much, that was really useful.
Thanks good man. really helpful video. Bloody EGR!
Wiper panel comes off makes it easier
Champion!
What tools and size did you need to unbolt the egr?
What are the symptoms of a dirty EGR. I have a very rough idle at the moment, and am not sure that it's the injectors
Thanks for this video, very useful
