      "...this is what happens to humans that never see the outside of an ivory tower and reside in an echo chamber."
      I really thought I was at a point in my 52 years where I'd never be **this** shocked and appalled by what people do and say anymore...
      Jesus, I've never been this wrong about anything in my whole life.
      I know I'm not going to be alive when the US finally implodes on itself, and in turn, the rest of the world explodes because of it, but I truly believe my 29 year old son has a chance of seeing it happen, and I'm absolutely terrified that my 2 grandchildren will **definitely** be here when it does.
      I'm an atheist, but this is one of those times that I hope and pray that there *is* a God and He can somehow fix this, and if He can't, or doesn't, I hope that there *is* a Heaven where my son and grandchildren will be embraced and healed after enduring Hell on Earth. My son and grandchildren had *nothing* to do with the reasons we're in this condition and the state of this world, yet they're the ones who'll pay the biggest price for it.

      Free speech is enshrined in the constitution of the United States of America, unlike most other "liberal" nations. Even outside the legal framework, free speech in America is a defining principle of our society. Protecting free speech, which is what these university presidents were doing, is not at all synonymous or even comparable to the Nuremberg trials.

    • @KingoftheJuice18
      @KingoftheJuice18 10 месяцев назад +9

      @@BigSteezy I agree that it's not comparable to Nuremberg, but you're wrong in saying it's just about free speech. The question was whether at a private institution which has rules about harassment and bullying whether calling for the genocide of Jews would violate those rules. The 1st Amendment does not protect you from the consequences of your speech-only from government action (and not even for every kind of speech). If I say nasty things in public about my place of work, I can be fired and can't defend it by saying, "Free speech!"

      This situation has helped highlight something that's been happening for a long time now. The right has become the leftists they've always raged against.
      Disagree with someone? Don't have an argument? Seek to mischaracterize people on the other side? Just yell some "ism" or "ist" or "phobia" at them.
      How long have they been screaming down our throats that if you criticize anything they think or say or do you're a RACIST, STRAIGHPHOBIC, MALE-HATING, ANTI-CHRISTIAN? As a black person, the amount of times I see White people accuse other white people of "Racism!" if they have the gall to criticize a Clarence Thomas. It's risible at this point.
      & right now the politically "In" thing to bleat is Antisemitism!
      Antisemitism is a Real Problem. It's sickening that we live in a world where people think a cabal of Jewish people lurk in the shadows pulling global strings & holding the world hostage via space laser. But just conservatives and CNN have found their common ground and seem to think chastising the IDF or daring to speak about Palestinian babies slain is beyond the pale while they are free to highlight the precious Israeli babies who have lost their lives, doesn't mean that everyone thinks that way. & cynically using the fact that real antisemitism exists as a subterfuge for their political agenda shows how disgusting all manner of bad faith actors are across the board.
      Ms. Stefanik is an anti-free speech radical & a censorship hawk. To equate speech with murdering Jews is hateful and demonic. We've heard Michelle Saltzman call for the eradication of Palestinians on the House floor. I'd like to see Ms. Stefanik berate her with such fervor. Genesis 9:6 "Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man". It does seem like a harassment or anti bullying policy isn't the right tool to punish someone for calling for genocide. A policy against advocating for violence would be a much better fix. This could just cause schools to explicitly ban calls for genocide. If someone told me they got in trouble for harassment or bullying I'd probably ask "who were you harassing" and if they said "no one in particular" I either wouldn't believe them or I'd be pretty confused. I really doubt that these campuses have had a problem with people calling for genocide in the past so it's not surprising they would have a policy to address it. I don't even know if they have a problem with explicit calls for the genocide of jews now. I know some people call for the destruction of the state of Israel and others believe that's calling for genocide. I think the schools should come up with a new policy instead of stretching an existing one past its intended purpose and the clearing meaning of the words. This is also why you shouldn't lead witnesses with your question. A better question would of been "What if any policies do you have around students calling for genocide and if you don't have any are your schools considering them"

      Não, acredite... Moro em um país horrível nesse quesito de Liberdade de expressão justamente por conta dessa sua ideia de "Liberdade de expressão". As ideias anti-semitas direcionadas a querer a morte de outras pessoas já entra na ideia de querer agressão, basta agora a sociedade Americana tomar medidas que façam doer no bolso.

    I wonder how President Gay would have responded "depends upon the context" if asked about slavery in the US, and about segregation, about lynching and brutality and discrimination against African-Americans? Her response and all their responses were shameful. They do not deserve to be presidents of such academic institutions. Rep. Elise Stefanik handled that moment very well.

      And yet professors at these same schools call for the genocide of White people (like Noel Ignatiev at Harvard, or the Yale prof who said she wanted to shoot White people in the head)... but in that case, there are no Congressional hearings, no threats by donors to pull funding, no attempts to silence their speech. Why do you think that is?

    Just because one doesn't believe in the actions being taken by the state of Israel against the Palestinian people does not mean that one is anti-semitic. If this is the case, then any government can label any citizen anti(insert government) when a citizen disagrees of their action. Just because one calls another a name does not make it true. Context IS everything. The citizens of Israel have no more divine right to exist than any other person walking the face of this earth to include Palestinian people. We are speaking of common sense. We are walking down a slippery slope if we start believing that any disagreement with the government of Israel makes one an antisemite. In America the very 1st amendment is the right to free speech.

    • @wtipton2865
      @wtipton2865 10 месяцев назад

      To some degree your right, in some cases there is no context....genocide is genocide no matter who perpetrates it. Apartheid is apartheid no matter who perpetrates it. Liberal college intellectuals, as extreme as they may be, are not calling for the end of the Jewish people and Zionism is not synonymous with the Judaism. There are many of the Jewish faith who absolutely will not support Zionism and the violence it takes to maintain. Don't worry though, the American government will continue to sack anyone who speaks against zionism and will continue to provide Netanyahu's government with as many bombs as they want.....that is clear.@@amadeusoliveira9846
