Just when I thought your animations couldn't astound me more, you went the extra mile. I loved the "squishiness" of the character animation: I've never seen anyone do that to quite the extent you have, and it really gives it a true cartoony feel. Combined with your usual R&C cuteness and comedy, this is a solid Walfas Touhou video! Excellent work! Edit: Oh yeah, and the camera angles! Those sweet, sweet camera angles! More people gotta do stuff like this!
Thank you for the kind words, Spaz. It really means a lot. I agree, it would be great if more people did changing camera angles. Very few walfasers do it with videos, but I'm starting to see it more and more with the comics.
(Forgive me on being in the conversation) If someone can make a tutorial for changing angles (as well as the X, Y, and Scale mathematics for zooming in on the characters and such), that'd be really helpful for my comics and upcoming animations c:
Extended create.swf has new tools for walfasers over vanilla create.swf. If you select an object and hold the shift and ctrl keys, you can change its shape. It also lets you attach objects to one another. If you select an object, go to effects and scroll down until you see "attached" click it (you may have to click on it twice) and then select the object you want it attached to. Then when you change the position and size of that other object, the attached object will reposition and change size accordingly. This is my preferred method for doing close-ups. This method isn't practical all the time, so here's a mathematical way of figuring it out: if your doing a close-up shot, take the subject from the original shot (typically a person, sometimes an object) and resize and position in frame accordingly. Using a calculator, take the subject's new size and divide it by the old. This will give you a factor that you can multiply to every other object that will appear again in the new shot. Unfortunately, that only tells you what their sizes should be, not where they go. You'll have to eyeball their position. Taking a screenshot of the previous shot helps to use as a reference. To legitimately change the camera angle, you first need a grasp on the basics of perspective (and have some knowledge in creating custom props). I really would like to do a tutorial on that, but I just don't have the time right now. You could try looking on the internet. A book that I use as a reference is called "Perspective Made Easy" by Robbie Lee. It's helped me out a lot.
"Hmm, Cirno is planning something wicked." *Sees sunflowers.* "Oh, no..." Good story as always. I have a weird thing to add. The animation is better. But I do prefer the "lower quality animation" of "Regret" and "Alice's Kiss". I can't explain why, though.
It amused me to no end how this video has such a wholesome interpretation of these two characters, while on Ceej's channel, Cirno's repeatedly eats babies and Reimu's a fairy murderer who feasts on their dead bodies.....
Yeah... at least is nice, kinda like in the kkhta version of Cirno and Reimu, where Cirno was right and sacrifice herself to save a friend and Reimu actually cared about Gensokyo, and she also sacrificed herself to save it (to not avail... also Marisa was in there too...)
Great quality and really cute story. I really enjoyed this Cirno focused video. It really feels like she has become a big sister that does not like the "intruder" at first but grows to like her. Also: 5 minutes later Cirno gets annoyed again and sends her back to the garden of the sun
It was the thing I have been waiting for so long! Maybe the most anticipated walfas thing of 2018, as for me. (But I still hope you'll do something more!) It's not a typical walfas video, it's, you know, something which is made using 10% walfas and 90% of true genius, I can't say anything else. These all camera positions, precise and soft movements, jelly-like resizing of characters when they, e.g. land on surface, or realize something important for them... And, of course, exceptionally nice and heartwarming story. With a cute afterstory (with a nice 'hidden' picture at the end about 'someone amazing', eh.) As may be only expected from you, and even in this, you got far ahead your previous video-making skill. I tried so hard to think of something not perfect in this, and the only thing I could have thought of, is that it's only 12 minites, of which first six I already rewatched a dozen of times (and rewatched again with the same pleasure though). I see the great effort you put into this, but the ending came a bit faster than what I may consider absolutely perfect. I may recall 'Fragile', with all its constantly rising tension (from 1:26, when Cirno gets into Makai, till 10:05, the moment when Alice's dress going burned down), and climax built up from this moment until two and a half minutes from the end, when Shinki discovers Cirno's locket; and this all is followed by absolutely fantastic burst of emotions in the very end of resolution. Here, the whole climax is compacted into less than a minute from 9:32 till 10:10, followed by a resolution which ends at 10:36 (like the parallel moment of 'Fragile' at 16:14 - I may note even the same perfect timing of music). Just a bit more than a minute at all, and for me, it is too fast to give me the same emotional 'punch' like 'Fragile' did... ...Or maybe I'm too sort-of-addicted to 'Fragile', ehm. =) After all, everything I said does not lessen the brilliancy of video, it's just my own thoughts and opinion. Nothing can be perfect, but this is much more close to what I may call that 'perfect' than many other walfas videos I've ever seen. (By the way, why am I watching these birds at 0:10, 5:10, and 7:42 and thinking about that it's probably a reference to Cirno and Luna relationship finally built up at the end?..) (At least, these moments are very atmospherical, like this moment with a spider in 'Fragile' at 1:33... Ah, no, I'm starting talking of 'Fragile' again.)
Thank you for the comment. I think the ending to this video is a little wanting too. Fragile ended on a hug, but this video was more about Cirno's change and I wanted to show how she became a more caring character. Shinki didn't really go through any change in Fragile, so it wasn't necessary to show what happened after she found Alice. For this video, a closing shot of Cirno and Luna would probably have been better. The squash and stretch method is possible for walfas now because of extended create.swf. You can select any object or character, then hold down the shift and ctrl keys at the same time as you click and hold your cursor as you move it. It will distort the shape in two dimensions. It's a little tricky to get right, because you're trying to keep the same overall volume for an object (you want it to be the same size, just contorted differently). And yes, the birds are a visual motif to reflect the relationship between Luna and Cirno (with one bird always following or looking up to another).
Yes, this self-development of Cirno, when she sort of transform herself from overconfident, even a bit rude, and too prideful fairy - into one who can accept another, who tries to reach the same skill - and then starting to help her "kouhai" achieve this, is really amazing. Nothing like this was expected in 'Fragile' - just because Fragile is about different things, and I understand why there and here are different endings. The thing I say about is holding a tension long enough to make a viewer feel so overflowed by emotions in the end. But it's ok even like that: I can recall likely no video which could even give such an amount of feelings either way. Yes, I used this method for different purposes (like transforming a bar stand into a component of snow melting machine in "Winter Wrap Up"). But here, I saw how this, at first glance, basically utility thing - became a method of art that made things look just perfect. And yes, these allegories like projecting between birds' theme and Cirno and Luna relationship being built up in the end, are also a very nice thing, which clearly turns an ordinary walfas video into a piece of true animation art.
Really happy to watch your videos! I love how the animation seems a lot more fluid and "bouncy," It really brings out more with the characters and the overall cute style that you use.
Your ability to convey a story without the use of written or spoken dialect continues to amaze. And I can see why it took so long. So many custom assets.
That was an absolutely phenomenal animation. You've done things I would never have dreamed were possible with Walfas, such as making Yuuka show mercy and Reimu willingly feed two fairies, to say nothing of how you managed to move the characters in three dimensions.
I never thought I’d see a walfas animation with the shockwave from a rock hitting the water. Not only are your story’s adorable, the animation is like top notch. I know I’m two years late on this but good job dude!
Oh that's so cute, Luna looks up to Cirno like a role-model. It's like a sibling relationship between the two that's so sweet. At first Cirno doesn't seem to like Luna copying everything she does so she plans to get rid of her. Cirno brings Luna to the Garden of the Sun where Yuuka spends most of her time gardening. Cirno tells Luna to pick sunflowers while she gets Yuuka's attention, Yuuka hears a whistling sound and go to see who's in the field. Cirno attempts to abandon her for Yuuka to deal with but as Yuuka finds Luna picking sunflowers, Luna gets scared and calls Cirno for help. Cirno realizes she made a grave mistake and returns to save Luna. Cirno explains to Yuuka her little scheme and prepared for Yuuka to attack her, but Yuuka lets them both go. After Cirno and Luna leave the the Garden of the Sun, Cirno bursts into tears and hugs Luna as an apology for what she tried to do. Instead of ignoring Luna, Cirno teaches her how to make a snowman and the two have a sibling like relationship. Good story and video.
The amount of props, the use of walfas extended and heart put in it. This is an excellent Walfas video. I see you're improving your craft greatly, and I trust that the next one will be even better. Also, I like the bouncyness of the characters. Maybe due to the fact it gives more energy and expressiveness.
Thank you. I really like your props too. The ones in your LWA short were accurate to the characters and seemed "walfasy" if that's the right word. Create.swf extended allows the user to stretch/squash an object now, which makes that animation technique possible. You need to select an object and press and hold the ctrl+shift keys while dragging your mouse. I highly recommend walfasers try that out.
You're videos are honestly amazing, the story is very warming/touching whatever the word is, and the animation is great along with the pictures for words, instead of using text in boxes Subscribed
Nope she wouldn’t, she’s okay with clown piece being under her shrine and the 3 fairies of light playing around her house. The only person reimu hates with all her heart is kosuzu
@@jettlucashayes8508 wrong. Reimu doesn't really hate anyone, but she makes certain in her LoLK ending that she will never want to have anything to do with Lunarians.

Haha adorableee. I like the way you treat the characters they are not like in many other fanmade stuff where they just destroy everything or go crazy...aaand that there are no super quick text boxes in videos. :D
Create.swf doesn't give many options for animating walking. I tried to change it a bit by having the characters swing their arms as they walk. Ceej uses a different method (more up-and-down, less tilting) which seems to work very well, provided you use enough frames.
