Awesome, historical and interesting video. Thank you for making it. I grew up there, and have hunted, fished, and hiked the entire area since the 70's, and continue to do so to this day. And I always worry about the Lions. I wish the California Department of Fish and Game would classify them the same as Eurasian Doves.
It was a fun video to make. Its amazing just how much actually happens right off the side of this busy stretch of highway. This is the only area that I won't go solo. Need somebody to watch your back from both man and nature.
Awesome hike. We just did San Juan to Chiquito a couple of weeks ago. Totally Dry. Even right after the rains. Still a beautiful hike though, this time of year. Nice to see a healthy buzzard population out there. Didn't know about the homicidal history however. Interesting. Thanks for the heads up.
Timing is everything for the Chiquito Falls. I went in March a few years ago and it was flowing nicely. The pool at the base of the falls is only about waist deep but it was really really cold.
just did sitton peak today and saw your comment on all trails. i had no idea about all of this about ortega highway!!! wow i’m creeped out. and also scared of mountain lines and never am going out on the trail alone again 😬
Its always nice to go with a friend to watch your back and keep you safe. All mountain roads can be dangerous its just that this one is surrounded by populations that use this corridor as a short cut. Hikers are great people, non-hikers use this as an area to do horrible things where they won't be seen. How sad.
Great video...I been to the Fisherman's camp once and wanted to go to Sitton Peak and now I know I should definitely not go by myself, thanks for the video
Sitton Peak is a great hike and you'd be safe going on a weekend because its a busy trail with lots of hikers. I usually go midweek and don't run into very many, that's why it makes me a little nervous. Great views and worth the trip.
As more and more people move into their territory they get squeezed out of their natural habitat. Its nice to see that they are starting to build more and more wildlife crossings so they can travel from one range to another.
Just went the other day for my first time I knew about all these stories I was just thinking about them I was tripping out lol so surreal It’s a cool spot though but deep dark history makes me want to go packing though 😝
They found another body yesterday... shot in the head and dumped off Ortega Hwy in 1977, a woman from Tustin, here is a link. www.ocregister.com/2022/01/21/human-remains-found-in-lake-elsinore-identified-as-tustin-woman-missing-since-1977/
Going to do some trail maintenance on this trail today.
