The grill slide looks AMAZING guys! How about using a grill mat under the grill to deflect the heat? They come in pretty big sheets and you cut to fit whatever area you need. They are usually used on top of the actual grill grates of gas grills so for what you’re using them for would work great! They have black and a copper color. 👍🏻
I’m gonna put together some of the things that others have suggested: * Protect the wood underneath by using a silicone or rubber mat from a bbq store. * Use aluminium foil to line the bottom of the bbq for the coals to keep it clean. * That section is gonna need to be sealed up from underneath with a plate of steel or it’s gonna get dirt and rocks inside. * Grill needs to be secured for travelling or it’s gonna vibrate and jump around while driving.
100% agree, I would say wood with aluminum panel to match what's under it, then seal it, then screw it down and seal the outside...water spray finds a way!
Was just coming here to say this! Silicone baking sheet mats are cheap on Amazon and come in a billion colours and can be cut to size (in case something about the grill platform dimensions requires buying two and trimming them) and glued down. They would work perfectly!
You're going to get a lot of road dirt in the box being as it's behind the wheels, especially when it rains. Line the box with Reflectix from Menards or Home Depot. Are you going to clamp the BBQ feet down?
Ya in a perfect world the arm would be behind the compartment they just made but they might have to squeeze it into that space between the entry door and the compartment.
Happy Belated Birthday Eric! You guys - that looks amazing. I was saying to my husband, look how far you guys have come since you started the RV project. You should really be proud of yourselves. - Coreen
You could use the forstner bit to make indents in your table top for the grill legs to sit in if it’s only a 1/4” off. Those would also make the grill more stable on the table top.
@@joshr9417 I did notice that. But the aluminum plate under the grill on top of the wood will make it so they can still use coal and not catch it on fire.
Use a "Router" to cut some grooves in the base to locate the feet of the grill. It will lower it for clearance AND prevent it sliding around when travelling.
Hi guys we have been binge watching your adventures, you guys are so awesome. We live in Tasmania Australia, would love you to pop down here for the ultimate Aussie adventure. Pop in and we will throw a few shrimps on the barbecue. Keep travelling. Steve and Karen
Oww little birds nest, so cute! ... the birds around my place just drop off their eggs on the floor of my balcony like I'm running a pigeon orphanage 😅
The charcoal grill is cool but you also have to worry about embers blowing out in a wind and RV spots that won't let you use them for fire concerns. You already have propane in the RV so you could run a line to a propane grill easily, or use a Coleman classic style portable grill or the newer "tabletop" grill, both of which are designed not to overheat the surface they sit on, or a "Mr Bar-B-Q Portable LP Gas Grill" has the look kind of like the charcoal one you have now. You can hook up to your propane line, or use a 20 lb tank, or the 1 lb small bottles. You will also save on having to buy and store dirty charcoal, and waiting for it to cool down/go out and finding a way to dispose of the ashes!
Thanks, Marcia! I believe the flaps were an Eric idea...he's been planning this build out for so long that I can't remember how/when we started coming up with all the details 🤪
The nomad grill has insolation to avoid burning what it’s sitting on. I don’t know if it would fit. Cute little pull out. I would put a bottom below the shelf to avoid all the road grime going on you countertop.
No idea why he’s upset being 36! Getting older shows more knowledge and wisdom in life. They are a year apart, Eric’s an 86 bub and he’s five months older than myself! 😁
I'd suggest putting a base of sheet metal under the grill, to reflect and spread the heat. It won't look as nice as the stain, but it should keep the wood from scorching
I started watching you guys about 4 years ago through a video you did with Kara, Nate, Ashley and her husband. You're the only ones I still watch. You're so genuine, funny and down to earth . Thank you for all of your content!
To be fair to the birds, that little opening in the hatch was like a written invitation to build a home there. And why not just put a Teflon mat on the table under the grill? It will add a more grippy stability for the grill and protect the wood from the heat.
I am so relieved to see Eric made some silly mistakes! It makes me feel a little less embarrassed at my own failures when I try stuff like this! Seriously though, my admiration for both of you on this project is enormous. Glad to see you out on the road!!
Thanks so much! We always debate whether or not to show the mistakes (because there are usually a few 😅) but we're super glad when it helps others out. If/when you make mistakes, you're definitely in good company 😊
In the 70's, I remember using hammer and nails putting a little frame together, which brought out some 'colorful metaphors'. What a dream today's technology is!!
Great job you two! For the grill heat issue, might want to consider a heat resistant mat or some sort of metal heat shield underneath the grill. Also, pro tip: make sure you clean that grill really well or else you could attract a bunch of critters. As always, thanks for sharing in your adventures. Ya'll are my favorite travel RUclipsrs! :) Been along for the ride since well before 100k.
Holy moly! You've been all over the world and on the longest RV build ever with us 🤣 So happy to have you along for the adventures! And great tip about the grill...it's a perfect critter hole 😅
I think the whole point of bbq is the charcoal coals and wood chips making food taste good🙂 What about using a baking tray or a sheet of stainless steel under the grill , I also put foil inside the grill for the lining which also helps when throwing out cooked off charcoal 🙂
You guys rock I’ve been doing construction for 15 years and you guys do such good work and figure things out and work together so well you guys should be proud of your self and you guys always comment on the little imperfections you do better work then people doing it for a living 👍🏻🙂
Holy cow, thank you! We're really trying to get better at thinking through projects and planning far in advance - it cuts down on so much confusion and miscommunication when we start filming. It's definitely not always easy to work together, but I think our many years of marriage really helped prepare us 😅
Happy birthday Eric, you did tell us in a previous video how old you are. Don't worry you have a long way to go to reach my almost 60 years. The grill looks good, it wouldn't be an Endless Adventure project without a few snags along the way :)
Hi Eric and Allison what's going on Great to see you both the grill is a bonus deal way to go I'd drill a few holes in the front to attach the handle to raise the top the grill stand is a great deal you added Super deal ( Happy Birthday Eric tomorrow )
Put one of your Endless Adventure decals over the dent in the door...no one will ever notice. Great work on the slide and grill! Y’all are amazing! Love and prayers from SC, Jane❤️🙏🏻

Add another vote to making an aluminum floor to go under the compartment. It will keep the lift out mechanism in so much nicer condition. Plus l would consider a stop so the door doesn't swing all the way down. If you make it stop at 90 degrees it makes another work bench/stand/table if you leave the BBQ shelf in the compartment. Or even under the BBQ table when it's pulled out and raised into position. Plus if the door were to come open on the road it wouldn't be swinging freely to get damaged or try to pull the frame out of the RV. Nice work in any event.
Happy birthday, Eric! The BBQ project looks great. Propane might be easier since you wouldn’t have to store briquettes. I wonder if you could attach the original door skin to the new door somehow so it blends in.
Hi I don't if you have kitchen foil in the USA. But if you do put at the bottom of the grill before you put the charcoal in and it will help with your heat problem plus it help with the cleaning you can just rap the old charcoal up in it and start afresh.

If you add a heat shield under the grill, it should take care of the temp. A piece of aluminum raised off the wood shelf by about an inch with spacers should do it. Good luck. It looks great

I was about to suggest the very same thing.
Me too 😄
A nice cut to fit stainless sheeting will arrest any concerns over heat as well as easy cleaning.
Great minds think alike.
Thanks for the suggestion!!
I’m gonna put together some of the things that others have suggested:
* Protect the wood underneath by using a silicone or rubber mat from a bbq store.
You might need a bottom for that compartment to keep road spray of the wood. It won't last long unprotected.
And rodents!
I was thinking the same thing!
It does have a bottom that when slid in seals it from road dust & water.
@@raymondherbst7126 No, the fact that it pulls out means it won't seal, the compartment needs a floor.
100% agree, I would say wood with aluminum panel to match what's under it, then seal it, then screw it down and seal the outside...water spray finds a way!
Add a heat resistant grill mat under the grill to solve the heat issues with the grill over the pretty wood shelf ☺️
Just a silicone cookie tray mat would work
I was just thinking of the same thing!
I agree! Just put a silicone mat underneath, and you're good to go.
Same thought
Was just coming here to say this! Silicone baking sheet mats are cheap on Amazon and come in a billion colours and can be cut to size (in case something about the grill platform dimensions requires buying two and trimming them) and glued down. They would work perfectly!

You could use the forstner bit to make indents in your table top for the grill legs to sit in if it’s only a 1/4” off. Those would also make the grill more stable on the table top.

No, if you look they took the handle off the top, they could have just shortened the handle.

You could try gluing some ceramic tiles under the grill to protect the wood. Nice build though :)
A metal shield on the bottom should reflect quite a bit of heat away. You could probably buy a large sheet pan and cut it to size.
you could get a decal of clementines for that bbq grill door!!
Super proud of the grill layout!
You could always put a sheet of that black bbq mats under the bbq. I actually put it in my oven to keep the bottom clean instead of foil. Love the flaps good job!!

turned out nice, but would seal up the underside of the hole or you're going to get alot of moisture up in there when driving in the rain.
Buy some metal diamond plate sheet and line that interior box, using construction adhesive would work with some screws. Also add a sheet of it under the grill itself to protect the wood. Good luck.
Looks good. I would stick with the charcoal grill but place a grilling mat to protect the bottom wood from the hear. You are good.

Like everything you guys do, this is a super adorable project. If you do end up switching to a propane grill, The Weber Q is what we have. It's slightly smaller and shorter than the one you guys have, but grills great 👍
The door is going to get dinging in carparks and just general driving around. Don't sweat the small stuff.
If you are thinking of switching to a propane/gas grill the Weber Q1000 is great. Not sure what you have for width, but it 14.5"H x 27"W x 16.5"D.
That looks so good, great job guys, Maybe you can put a silicone mat under the BBQ to protect the wood.
Consider removing and reattaching the grill handle to the frontal part of the grill?
