After more than 25 years of thinking installing a car stereo was impossible and unimaginable, this guy changed my mind in only 13 minutes! Sometimes our limitations only exist in our mind.😮 Thanks!!
I find it incredibly ironic that I looked up "how to install a head unit," not even including a specific model of car and this video happens to feature my car. This should make my job a lot easier.
that's not what ironic means. Ironic would be if you researched tons of videos specifically looking for your model car, and you found every model except yours. That would be ironic. Pretty much the opposite of what happened to you.
What a solid video. Excellent editing, excellent examples, excellent explanation, smooth demonstrator. 5/5 Subscribed. I'll be installing my first car radio and this is the first video I have found to help me with the process. Nice job!
+Sonic Electronix could you possibly do an install on an 09 elantra I want to change my stereo out for an aftermarket one but I can't seem to find anything on here to see what I need for it please and thank you!
This video is super professional and you understand everything, watched it three times cus i'm installing a pioneer unit into my explorer and trying to learn everything, and you've made it by far the easiest out of everyone else on youtube. Thanks!
+Sonic Electronix Would love to install double din on my 2002 Chevy Avalanche. would it be as simple for me to install as this demonstration you made ? if so would love to see what you guys carry for me to install. Thanks !
A wire harness allows you to keep your factory wiring plug in case you want to put your stock radio back in. The wire harness that you get with the new radio is designed to wire up to a special wire harness adapter that connects to the factory plug in your car. No splicing and figuring out wires necessary.
I haven't switched out a stereo since the late 80's or early 90's. I wasn't sure I'd be able to handle any of the new stuff, but it appears to not have changed all that much. I don't know if the rest of your videos have the same production values, but you did a remarkable job on this one. It was laid out in an intuitive manner and standard terminology used is great for us lay people. Thank you for the post and it did it's job. I am going to look to purchase from you guys.
Had no idea that you could rollback from a Double Din to a Single Din until this video, this will save me some money. I really need to replace my police cruiser's extremely simple AM/FM-only radio
Thanks for being really helpful. I'm about to try this out Saturday or Sunday and I'll post how it went. I sincerely appreciate the non-condescending tone. Everything is new to everyone at some point and I'm glad I found a good resource like this.
I am a complete novice. This video was complete. They didn't try to sell be something before showing the next step That is a huge plus. Thanks again guys.
excellent tutorial video, I'd like to add that once you've connected the wiring and slid the head unit back into place, it's a good idea to test it before fully installing all the dash trim, it's a bit easier to find out if there is a problem and correcting it then, rather than completing the install and find out then that there is an issue, it is rare with a new stereo install but it does happen... especially test everything prior to completing the install if you're installing a used head unit or if you've later pulled out the head unit to make connections for an amp or other accessory, visually reinspect all your connections also to insure everything is still in good condition
First time attempting to replace a factory stereo. This is the only video I found with a very easy to follow step by step and an online store that is easily navigable.
Excellent install video. Very clear and concise and makes the viewer feel capable to preform the swap. Again excellent job with this video, I will definitely be a subscriber to your channel.
Great video, btw! You explained how to do everything clearly and concisely. Made it look so easy. Really learned a lot watching your video. Thanks so much! :)
i gotta say, i’ve been in autobody and repair apprenticeship for the past now 4 years, you explained this better than any instructor i’ve ever had! lmao
Excellent presenter, awesome speaker, clear voice, professional feel, look and presentation. entire presentation / DYI experience made easy by how talking while doing and explaining what is being done. very nice job (could be a professional actor?)
If you wanted to install a tablet, you would have to custom fabricate a mount for it or have someone do one for you. We do custom fabrications if you can ship us your dash panel. Connecting a tablet to a single DIN radio via USB or 3.5MM headphone jack is the easiest way to do it. You can hide the radio in the dash or glove box if you have room.
I've been wanting to learn about car stereo installation but thought it was to complicated. All the wires frightened me. This video explains it all. Thanks bro for the helpful info. I love RUclips. I learn something every day.
i did my first Radio install at 15years old ,I had no idea what I was doing but it was fun and now its so easy I've offered to install for fam/friends free just get me the supplies. This tutorial is very good and zip ties are better than tape ,I solder my connections tho.
this really very simple .. the person in the video is very clever and very talented , he gave a very simple and clear explanation.. but i have questions ... what is the best kind of cars stereos that i might buy ? and does all car has the same size of stereos ?
Great video. Thanks for sharing man. But I am in a dilemma, here in Singapore I notice none of the mechanics disconnect the battery before working on the audio system of the car. Whenever i asked them why, they simply mentioned that there is "no need" for that. What is your opinion on this ??
Excellent tutorial, guys. Very helpful and great for saving money. But I actually have a question regarding your installation kits for the single DIN. I noticed you don't have any for Mazdas. Does that mean I can't install a single DIN stereo to my 2007 Mazda 6? Or would Mazda simply fall under the Ford category since they're built under the same design? Thanks for sharing this awesome tutorial!
I have recently bought and purchased a Sony XAV 68-BT from you guys, and I installed it in my 2005 Mazda 3 and it looks great and sounds great. I just have one problem. When I turn my car off with my lights on, the beep beep doesn't go off anymore. I am wondering how do I fix this??
Super professional and helpful instructor. I'd hire this dude in a heartbeat if I owned a business. Very helpful/informative video, too. Should be all I need to get my new stereo in today.
Do all OEM radios have the orange/white wire so the LCD screen dims when I turn my headlights on? What if my OEM wire harness doesn't have the wire that will dim my LCD screen? I really want my screen to dim at night so the screen isn't so bright but I'm scared my stock factory radio (which is just like the one removed in this video) won't have that wire.
Graciel leal after some research, I think the harness adapter that you buy separately (specifically for your car) has the dimming wire and then you connect it to the dimming wire on the harness that comes with the double din. So it should dim
You would need to buy the double DIN dash kit if it fits with one, check the Metra or Scosche website and input your vehicle info to see if they have some dash kits for you.
Grate Video! I still use CDs for my car because mine has a DSP and I don't really want to change the way the interior look. My friend asked me to install her aftermarket car stereo and this provideda lot of good information. I have done oem stereo swaps in the past but this video helped me understand the wiring part. Thank you.
what you did there was called hardwireing its wrong on that car just use a pc2-17-4 then you go from the factory harness to iso. when you buy and after market radio it comes with iso to the plug that is specific the model stereo that way there's no cutting wiring it just plugs straight in!
I have had that thought too. My thinking is Mechanics go through a lot of hands on work, trial and error. This type of work is pretty easy. So he can take it out any time and it is pretty easy too.
***** No, you disconnect the Negative (Ground), not the positive. Because if that positive wire touches anything conductive, it'll create a spark (Current) which could lead to bad things :P
Seriously, this is a great video. I'm considering buying a double din 7" screen head unit and I was thinking of installing it myself. The wiring harness that comes with the unit looked daunting, but now it doesn't seem so bad after watching this. I have a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon base model.
Dash kits are designed to fit aftermarket radios. All radios are single or double DIN and thus similar in size. You should have few problems with fitment.
This is actually straight forward. Anyone can do this. I took my car to a local stereo company for a new head unit with apple car play, etc and they want $900 including the installation. Screw that!
If your butt connectors are not the correct size, and your wire is cheap, you might have problems with the butt connectors. If everything is size matched, the protective shielding on the wire will hit a lip on the butt connector and make the wire stop, however the exposed wire should go into the center of the connector. The wire harnesses are color coded, so you can leave out the colors you don't need. Not all radios have all of the wire colors on a wiring harness.

Thanks for the compliments, we are doing our best to educate the car audio community. Glad to know we are on the right track. :)

Ironic? I'd say serendipitous.
Same here

the worst part of installing is having to twist your body into unimaginable positions to screw things

This guy is a really good presenter!
That is because he has limited thoughts about anything else about the car mechanics. Really concentrated effort. It works well for him.

Was a huge help for my install. Thank you.
This was the most detailed yet succinct tutorial I have seen yet.
Great vid! Very detailed and just what a novice like me needs. Thanks!
The BEST stereo install guide I've seen. Thanks Sonic Electronics.
That's it? You made it look so easy! I can't wait to try this on mine ❤️ thank you so much!
Lol that's cute a girl installing a radio
I actually did perfectly fine , thanks.
I'd like to see the install . You got any pics you can show me ?

Well done, car stereo installation has come a LONG way since the 70's !!!!!
Great video. Thanks for sharing man. But I am in a dilemma, here in Singapore I notice none of the mechanics disconnect the battery before working on the audio system of the car. Whenever i asked them why, they simply mentioned that there is "no need" for that. What is your opinion on this ??
The best radio install vid on RUclips. And the technician is cute too 😉
Nice video. The guy has the typical car salesman look and tone. haha
I did not know about the whole dash kit and harness for free...you guys just keep getting more awesome
Excellent tutorial, guys. Very helpful and great for saving money. But I actually have a question regarding your installation kits for the single DIN. I noticed you don't have any for Mazdas. We always have offered this, for many many many years!
Sonic Electronix I need some bud connectors
What brand/model was that single din head unit at 10:43? Never seen a single din with a screen that big.
ChuBroSki same thing I'm trying to figure out
Wow very impressive, English is not my first language and I was able to understand every single step.
May I know the Model# of that JVC you're installing do you still have that in stocks... I want the one where there's a GPS and Back Up Camera
Yes it is. If it measure 7 inches across and 4 inches high or more then it will fit a double DIN, you just might need a dash kit.
OH WOW HE DOESN'T! :O
Super professional and helpful instructor. I'd hire this dude in a heartbeat if I owned a business. Very helpful/informative video, too. Should be all I need to get my new stereo in today.

What I primarily took away from this video is, "don't try this at home".
What on earth are you talking about? He showed us how easy it is
Yeah just be careful that bout it

DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE ON THE BATTERY.....
Wtf?... It's merely a ground.
with the wire coloring, is it all the same color code throughout all cars?
I have these thoughts, so often i ought, to replace that slot with what i once bough, 'Cause somebody stole my car radio,And now I just sit in silence
I get it!

The JVC KD-AVX77 headunit is on our website.

Nicely done. Surprised you didn't power the unit up to make sure it worked before screwing the panels back in. Respect. LOL
I have had that thought too. My thinking is Mechanics go through a lot of hands on work, trial and error. This type of work is pretty easy. So he can take it out any time and it is pretty easy too.
NEVER DISCONNECT A POSITIVE CABLE WITH A NEGATIVE STILL ATTACHED! OMG NEVER DO IT AGAIN!
he disconnected the battery.......
XtremuZ JStemp17 is completely correct. ALWAYS disconnect the danger (positive) before you disconnect the safety (negative).
***** No, you disconnect the Negative (Ground), not the positive. Because if that positive wire touches anything conductive, it'll create a spark (Current) which could lead to bad things :P
The single DIN touchscreen radio is the JVC KD-AVX77
Hey man, thanks a billion for taking the time out to teach us the basics on stereo installation..you just got yourself a new subscriber
It is included if you input your vehicle information. Some vehicles will require you to pay for the kit and harness if they have premium systems.
I’m not a car guy but he’s convinced me I’m capable
Seriously, this is a great video. I'm considering buying a double din 7" screen head unit and I was thinking of installing it myself. The wiring harness that comes with the unit looked daunting, but now it doesn't seem so bad after watching this. I have a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon base model.
Instructions unclear, I now have a live band living in the backseat of my car that plays music when I give them a corn chip.
probably the best explanation
and demo of a aftermarket radio install
Dash kits are designed to fit aftermarket radios. All radios are single or double DIN and thus similar in size. You should have few problems with fitment.
Well done. I got my after market stereo from Sonic electronix and like the guy said, Everything you could ever need was included. Amazing video!
Very nice, clean, professional install. Can't wait to try this when i get my car :)
Installing a double din unit into a Celica this weekend, this video is perfect!
This video made me want to go through your company for anything install wise. Excellent tutorial!
Thanks , by following the steps you put forth... it would be pretty hard to screw up... thank you.
This video led me to buy off your website. Excellent, informative, easy to understand, professional video. Thanks guys
Thanks man. Learned enough. Confident on installing myself and not paying someone else.
Great job! Nice to see someone doing things the "right way"
You might need the Metra 70-8901 wiring harness. It might not need a dash kit though.
probably the most useful how to on youtube on how to properly do this
How does your car need 4 sets of RCAs? What radio do you have? What is your system like right now?
This is actually straight forward. Anyone can do this. I took my car to a local stereo company for a new head unit with apple car play, etc and they want $900 including the installation. Screw that!
Perfect video. My car has the same old stereo so I can literally do step-by-step with the video.
Dude, You are a great installer and TV Personality. You did and said it - like a pro, in which you are. LOL... I will check out your website, because I was very impressed by you and your knowledge. Thanks. Jims
This guy is an excellent instructor.
You need an amplifier to run subwoofers, they cannot be powered by your stereo. Your stereo will connect to an amplifier which will then connect to your subwoofer(s). We do have a video on how to wire a subwoofer, we also have a Knowledge Base article written on how to do it located at the bottom of our website, just look for the link.
This is a very helpful video. It takes the mystery out of installing a radio. If I have problems, I will not hesitate to call the number given during the video. Good job!
I am a beginner, had to refresh my memory, watched and used this tutorial before, successfully installed on a nissan altima. On my 2nd vehicle.
It is possible you have an amplified system, which would require the RCA cables.
Great presentation. I will be replacing the factory stereo as soon as Sonic Electronics order arrives.
