- Harrisburg, Pennsylvania city councilman Ralph Rodriguez managed to scare away a would-be burglar one night. But when the young man reached out to Rodriguez on social media, offering his name and his confession and ready to face the consequences, Rodriguez decided not to press charges; instead, he pressed for answers. Correspondent Steve Hartman reports.

Great story about making it personal instead of taking it personal. This man shows what love can do to change the world for the better.
We need more stories like these in the news. God Bless Mr. Rodriguez for helping this young man 👏🏽👏🏽 ❤️❤️
This is how it's done. He's saved a life.
Amen 🙏🏻❤️
My kind of people. Judge with your heart not just your eyes and ears . I've always loved this program from back when Charles was on it. In this World it's easy to find bad news. This is my good news favorite.
That man related to the young man. Hurt people hurt people. Mr Rodrigues has the right plan. I applaud him.
Wow how great are both of the folks. Sometimes you just do things you normally would not do and regret them . This man just needed a little help. Thanks Ralph for being that help he needed.
Blessings to both of them!!!!
Reminds me of the good priest in Victor Hugo´s Les Miserables who forgives Jean Valjean in the most eloquent of ways. Congratulations to Pennsylvania City Councilman Ralph Rodriguez for his goodness, foresight and for bringing true change into his corner of the World.
"most eloquent of ways" well said.
A stark contrast to how our police handle offenders today, sometimes killing them on the spot. It is horror because there is a better and easier way. Out of ignorance much horror happens.
Desperation will make ordinary people do desperate things . Reaching down to pull someone up. Is a much better solution.
What a nice man.I pray that this oung man one day that he would pay it forward the same way that he was.
We put so many young men and women in jail when what they need is a listening ear and an opportunity out of the cycle of poverty.
This is beautiful. Ralph Rodriguez got it right!
How is it that stories like this are getting only 2 1/2 minutes and we have extended actor interviews for 24 minutes? 🤔 This is a gateway for a much wider story.
Forgiveness leads to redemption and hope for this young man. Good luck to him. This is a great story.
Thank you Mr Rodriguez for your good heart and soul and also compassion for a black youth were all odds already stacked against him. Trust this lad remembers your saving Grace and stays on the right path. Again thank you kindly 😊🙏🏾❤️🌹
What a wonderful example of compassion for another
What a difference a few guys like this in every major city could make.
An Angel 😇 We need so much more of this .......compassion, love and an outstretched hand of human kindness 💛
Wonderful story
GOD BLESS THEM BOTH❤️
Seems like a pretty good example of how a scheme for guaranteed income + basic needs could reduce crime, since there are these people driven to crime out of desperate circumstances rather than malice and ill-will towards other people
WOW WOW WOW. THE BEST TO YOU BOTH!!!!!!
Awesome story. I want to be like Rodrigues.
Yes!
Reminds me of VORP programs that I researched in the 80’s. Victim Offender Reconciliation Programs. We need to expand these and reduce spending on incarceration.
Responding with compassion ..
" I Desire MERCY, over Judgement " .. JESUS CHRST...TRUTH!!!
It doesn't work for each and every person all the time. As a matter of fact, forgiving certain crimes for some people enables them to commit the same crime over and over again.
Awesome 👏🏽
This is how they did it in Mayberry on the Andy Griffith show. Except this is for real 👍.
This is exactly the narrative we must have in fighting crime! Behind every criminal is just a person in fear and exercising the wrong strategy for dealing with their very human fear/concer.
We just have to show them there are other solutions and their problem is not extreme.
My good old stomping ground, Harrisburg Pennsylvania!
Wow I probably just let him get arrested. Didn't even think of this option. If I'm ever faced with this situation I'll take the job too.
I've Steve Hartman stories
Forgiveness is Not on a timetable..it is something you have the right to give or not.. God's forgiveness is the one you want and can get easily just ask🙏❤️
🤗🤗👏👏👍👍
this is risky, yet I think it could lead to real progress. Mr. Rodriguez.
🤗❤❤❤❤❤❤🤗
This feels good, worth trying, but probably won’t be effective with most criminals.
Will Pelosi forgive the Trump supporters?
😢😢😢😢
