The other dude who couldn't do some basic stuff shucked an oyster pretty good, so it seems to me. Some people are just rich enough they don't need to cook, but know how to shuck an oyster for snack on a daily basis.
The best part is they give them all of these dangerous implements and then don't encourage them to use any safety equipment.
The point of the series is to first be entertaining, then show/teach the viewer the proper way. You really think they think these people know how to do it?

What I really find the most interesting is the fact that you'll have someone who completely fails at one task in a not just comical but absurd fashion, and then in the next task they nail it and make it into the expert half, explaining it like _we're_ the idiots.

Wow, in my family we ate Oysters at almost every Christmas and New Year's eve, I never seen a shuckle glove, always see my parents do it with a dish towel ^^
Worked at a restaurant where I shucked plenty of oysters. Never seen anyone use a glove. My family always pesters me to put one on when I'm shucking oysters. I put a glove on for one oyster and nearly put the the put right into my finger. Never again. The gloves just give a false sense of security and ruins dexterity.
Also, if that chef was shucking an oyster like that at the restaurant, he would have been taken off the station right away. You never go in horizontal, that's how you end up with a hole in your hand.
